Does anybody know the story of Challenger Imports? Its website it has stopped all importing of models and continuation of the company is questionable.

I can say that due to the high cost of any brass import, it is hard to sell many models at 1500 to 2700 per engine. Their last run of UP Challengers had a list for close to 2700. Most dealers sold a few and are stuck with the stock.

The following is the quote from their web page and is probably means you will not be seeing any more Challenger Products.

Challenger Quote Below::
As some may have surmised, we have determined to suspend our importing activity.

At this time, we can not with certainty tell you that any of the models that we have announced, either through print media or this web site, will ever be imported by Challenger. Conversely, we can not with certainty tell you that there will be no further Challenger products.

We appreciate the kind words and approbation that many of our models have elicited. For your own modeling interests and continuity of the brass aspects of your personal hobby, we suggest not waiting for us as we contemplate our future.

That others may announce projects that Challenger has described in either print media or on its web site should not be considered by anyone as having been in any way obtained through or under the auspices of Challenger Imports, Ltd.

We thank all those dealers, modelers, and hobbyists who have acquired the more than 60,000 models we have imported in the directly preceding 12 years.

I don't know if the blame rests w/ "honorable orientals" or the importers or both, but it 's a perfect example of somebody pricing themselves out of the market.
