Looking for Canadian Model railoaders!!!

Anyone out there who lives in the GTA out there that wants to start up a model railroad club! I am living on the edge of model railroading withdrawl becuase my parents aren't letting me move forward with my hobby. I am only 13 but really want to get into a club. I have looked at many clubs around the gta, but most are for people 18 years and older and the only club i know of that lets people my age is up and Stayner (2 and a half hours from my home). If anyone wants to start a club in the GTA or knows of a club in the area that allows younge teens to join, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

I can't help you with your club, but I am modeling CP RAIL and CANADIAN PACIFIC and any kid that want's to work on trains is a kid that's less likely to get into trouble.Show your folks this post.[:D]

I live in the GTA, Durham Region to be exact & have inquired about starting a club as well but as of this moment, I'm way too busy to be involved in one.
I know I don't have the time to commit to get one off the ground not alone keep one going.
Baby #2 due in just over a month from now is the reason why.

I also inquired about joining several clubs within a 45 minute drive from me including one in Oshawa but both of them had too many restrictions on what they "allowed" to run on their precious layouts so I know I wouldn't want to stay long as a member.

For those who do not live in the "center of the universe" and do not know what "GTA" means - I assume it stands for "Greater Toronto Area"..

GTA is" greater Toronto area" basically Missassauga,Burlington,Oakville,North York. I live in ancaster but dont consider that GTA.

There's lots of pix on the site - but you'll have no problems taking a tour of it - start at the beginning and enjoy!

My layout is passenger rail intensive and I try to keep with those trains that I've traveled on. I feature VIA Rail, BC Rail and Amtrak along with some obligatory freight ops from CN & CP Rail. The period trys to emulate the early 1990's to present times.

You know i really think that you have it right. I am the only model railroader in my school and i do seem better behaved then them (but that's comming from me[:D])

Matthew No need to envy ... you'll get there and you have plenty of time ahead of you! [tup] Right now that tiny corner of your basement is really your railroad empire - and it will grow as time and new locations come about. Believe me - that's the way it works.

Perhaps you might want to consider saving up for the types of loco's and cars you will ultimately want to run on the layout of your dreams. With a purchase here and there, one day you'll have the inventory you need and the rest will fall into place. One thing with this great hobby is that the availability of something special doesn't last forever - so it's best to acquire it now, for who knows about later [?] I'll bet you could find a shelf to construct for a point-to-point run, if for nothing else than to run and admire your purchases that will someday be the cornerstone of a great layout!

I'm a Canadian MR, maybe your question should have been a little more geographically specific, this being the second largest Country in the world it could include some very distant locations, if it's near 'tronna with a population of one zillion,surely someone(well,again,maybe not) should be interested in the hobby, where are all you 'torrononions" ? ? give ghonzo some help, by the way, I used to live in the GMJA (Greater Moose Jaw Area)

For those who might want to get together to chat about trains, I live in Oshawa ON & I know I have a day (the wife has given me a day off) to get together to discuss trains.
Late Sept or early Oct would be best.
My layout has a continuous run with a couple of sidings. I'm set up for DC only & I don't mind running non-Canadian Pacific locomotives!

Just a thought!

Well I'm not a Canadian Model Railroader but I did just buy two CN boxcars for my upstate NY (where I grew up) NYC 1950's era layout.
