WoooHooo! We got the new DCC system today!

After much debate and indecision, a short trip to our local Digitrax dealer landed us a new 5A Super Chief system. The Platte Canyon Sub is now seriously wired! We're so pumped and I just had to let all our friend here know. Now the fun begins, read the manuals and run trains. Bye Bye obsolete MRC...

DCC is the cat's pyjamas. It imparts a realistic way of running layouts that only the most deducated DC user could build-in in years past. While I appreciate those fellers' dedication and determination to make a large layout work that way, I can't imagine running a non-DCC road any more. It's like the difference between string and handle model airplanes and radio control ones. You can suddenly do so much more!

I can feel your excitement, grande man. Enjoy reality as Digital knows it.

Thanks for the comments guys. I may have poorly worded the MRC portion of my lead post though. We had an old MRC DCC system. It was better than DC but not a whole lot! Anyway, we're both looking forward to running trains on a modern, do-it-all system! The upgradeablity alone is fantastic. We may do the PC interface soon. That'll be great!

enjoy GM I couldn't believe how my trains ran when I fired up my DCC system ( Lenz )

I think the first thing that happened was a cornfield meet! lucky it was a junker bachmann and a beat up athearn. I've now nicked those decoders for other projects.

Sounds like you are going to be doing some serious railroading now!! [:D] Congrats on your new system. IMHO, you can't go wrong with Digitrax. I would really like to have something with the kind of output power that the Super Chief has, but I don't think I will ever pry that much money out of the wife's hands! [;)] I'll just have to make do with my Digitrax Zephyr. [sigh] Maybe I'll add a booster to it one day. Anyway, good luck with your new system GM!

Way to go!

BTW: Are you going to include lighting effects and/or sound in your locomotives?

[Austin Powers] Yeah Baby![/Austin Powers][:D]

It'll be a little while though. The next $$$ spent will be to complete staging and get the signals up and running.

Grande Man, go for the Locobuffer 2 for the PC interface for the Chief. It works great and once you have programmed a decoder with decoder pro, you will never do it with the throttle again. I enjoy tweaking the speed curves and it could not be easier with decoder pro.

Those are great throttles and fairly cheap on Ebay. Everybody wants the DT400's.

That's what I'd heard. We'll have a DT400 that came with the set and the DT300.

Well guys, I got home a little while ago and LGM had all the locos programmed and had a 3 loco consist running! [:D] This is gonna be great. The system is fantastic. It's amazing to run trains with and we're obviously still very much in the learning stage. I've already forgotten the $$$ spent...

Good for you GM. Wishing you the best of luck with your new system. Digitrax builds a great product. Just wait until you start running sound equipped locomotives. Awesome!

Remember its your railroad

I need to start looking at DCC, being N scale I was worried about getting it to work right, milling frames etc [:0], but reading on some other forums I guess Atlas and Kato have it down to plug and play almost. I envy all you proto throttle guys[:p]

Oh and Congradulations!!!! Now you can get all those loose ties laying around the right of way cleaned up.

Now, grande man, you get to spend big bucks putting decoders in all your locos!! But man is it nice. Hopefully you won't have very many shorts with your turnouts....and our club had to run extra power feeds to the far reaches of our layout. Loss of DCC signal can be a bad thing.......

It looks like all our old MRC decoders have to go as well. They threw the system into a frenzy trying to program them a little while ago. What a scare! Oh well, we want 128 speed steps, fancy lighting, etc anyway.
