100 dollar N scae flatbed Car?????

Hello i was just on ebay today and found this N scale Union Pacific Flat car it was at a buy it now for 90 bucks, or for a place a bid, i put in 25 and the seller ended the auction and sold it to me for 25 just wondering what makes this car so valuabe and also, if anyone knows what its worth

I didn't get the picture. The auction is closed and they have cleaned up the mess!

Don't you think it is kind of odd that the seller closed the auction as soon as he got $25 for the offering? Was pricing it extremely high a tactic to imply rarity to an otherwise common item? Your initial description seems awful fishy to me. I hope you didn't get taken to the cleaners.

There's a whole contingent of N scalers who are into collecting, as opposed to simply running, their cars. I believe that M-T cars, especially older ones, have their own following. My guess is that it's harder and harder to find a 30 yr old in like new condition. This particular one could be a bit rare. Just a guess. Unless you're a collector it's not worth any more than any M-T flatcar currently available.

My LHS said he has a guy that buys 2 of each in MT stuff, one for the layout and the other he sells on ebay, he usually makes double what he paid. I have some older Kadee N scale before the split. Would they be worth anything?

YES. kadee N scale cars are a hot item.

Just like anything collectible, New In Box with Origonal Price Sticker can be a hot item for a rare car. THe rare ones are the rejects that somehow get out of the factory. THe Nscale Collector makes a market for this at their annual convention. There are some price guides at BLW & other Netailers. Most MTL cars today go for $18, with $24 for the NMRA heritage series. Paying $25 for an old car means the seller stays in business for another day. A regular old car may go for $5-10.

If you look at the sellers other auctions, it seems he has the stuff priced a little high.

I often wonder why sellers will post a ridiculously high starting price for an item available retail for much less. The answer is, I guess, that someone may pay itthinking price means rarity. I saw an $18 car go for $76 a couple of weeks ago. That's the world of auctions [both online and physical] for you.

If the box liner said rapidos and it had knuckle couplers on it ,it either is in the wrong box or has been modified.Either one reduces the collector value of said car.








Not to mention the fact that they let the factory air out of the box. [:D]

There are collectors out there that buy 3 to 6 of each new model as they come out. They are their investment for the future. They buy /bought them at 25% off plus tax and shipping.

I went to a flea market today and a guy had a bunch of N stuff really cheap.He had a 1 gallon zip lock baggie full of engines and cars.(about 15 loco's and maybe 30 to 40 cars, one of the locos looked like a Challenger(do they make an N scale Challenger?) Also a box 12"by12"by6" full of track and switches and 2 power packs.He only wanted $40 for all! I only had $10 on me at the time.[:(]. I'm not into N, but that seemed like a GREAT deal!
