HI, I'm Space Mouse and I'm a trains.comaholic
Posted by SpaceMouse on Thursday, August 4, 2005 9:00 PM
It all started when my son got a Hogwart's Express for Christmas. I wanted to expand his set so I started searching the net looking for advise. Literally the first site I found was trains.com.

It was friendly at first, and free. The best ones are always free. But then you start learning stuff. Like Hogwarts engines are NFG. And you gotta have Kaydee Couplers and metal wheels.

But it gets worse. There's clinics. You can learn about operations and DCC and scenery. Then there's the photos of layouts and weathered cars and buildings.

You just can't not log on to see what is being talked about next. Every thing from Airbrushes to Zephyrs.

I even log on from work. I have to see what is new in between each daily project.

I have to learn to take each day on day at a time. It's been one minute since my last fix.

Hi, I'm TrainFreak409, and I too am a trains.comaholic. I find myself on this website constantly, looking for opportunities to share what I know, and moreso, to learn what I don't. If I log onto the Internet, I have to come here before I do anything else.

Is it possible to have too many forums friends?[:D][:p] I find the need to interact with these virtual people, in virtual coffee shops and such, just to talk and hang like friends would in the real world. Am I out of my mind?[:p]

Hi, I'm David, and I too am a trains.comaholic. I don't always post as much as I should, because I feel most (well, many [:D]) people know more than me, and I can learn more by keeping my mouth shut!

I spend way too much time at work prowling through these forums. Some day soon I will finally get started on my layout, which several of you fine folks have helped to tweak.[:D]

i am not an addict . really , i can stop reading these forums any time i want . i can ! i only read 3 or 4 times a day anyway so it's hardly taking any time out of the rest of the things i should be doing , like planning a layout , or actually building one , or maybe even finishing that kit i started a month and a half ago

I don't think that was a step in the right direction....I think that's called denial. I'm BigRedneckRob, and I'm a trains.comaholic.

You know, if we get just a couple of more people, we will have enough for a "support group"! We'll call it Trains.com Anonymous! [;)]

Hi! My name is Rex and I am a trains.comaholic. (Hi, Rex!)
I am here tonight to again seek your help and support. You see, I tried to make it on my own by not coming to the forum on a regular basis. Soon, I began to experience setback after setback in my quest to become a journeyman model railroader. Finally, through the constant banging of my head against the electrical panel, a light went off in my head and reminded me where I should be to seek help and camaraderie. Well, here I am.

Thank you.

Jan thinks I'm on here to much!! But there's so much learning and sharing of knowledge, I just can't go cold turkey!!

is there a Betty Ford clinic for train-a-holics?

Someone said recently it would be cool if we could all meet for coffee one morning, that would be fantastic.

I really enjoy coming here, hope I'm welcome.

Ken.

Hi, Space, I'm Tom and I'm a trains.comaholic too. Anyway, there's coffee in the foyer, and we don't use last names, okay? Now, before we get started, let me just say one thing: THERE IS NO CURE! Repeat after me. THEREISNOCURETHEREISNOCURETHEREISNOCURE--that's it. You're doing just fine. Use it as a Mantra when you're at work. Just sit in your cubicle for about ten minutes a day, repeat it about ten times very evenly and very quietly and pay no attention to those people peering over their cubicles at you. They--Don't--Count! Just stare at your PC screen and repeat the Mantra until you're successfully logged on and everything will be all better.
Remember, there's coffee in the foyer.

Forget the coffee, did anyone see that 36-24-36 Blond at the door of the meeting down the hall? I'm sorry was that a 36-24-36 or a 4-8-4? Anyway thank you for sharing, the FIRST STEP is admitting we are adults (or semi adults) who are playing with trains and hanging out with others who play with trains!
Will Stay Well!

Yep! I'm also a trains.comaholic! In my first year of retirement from the hassels and BS of tryinging to satisfy a boss who only wants you for what he can get and then has no qwalms about cutting you loose when the mood is right. Wow, didn't realize I was still so bitter! Anyway, retirement is the best thing since sliced bread and one of the things that make it better is sitting down every morning with my breakfast and coffee and checking out the MR and Trains magazine forums. The dream layout is committed to paper now, modeling decals and logos are designed, research into the industries and locations for my railroad are on-going. Hopefully, construction will start soon when home "improvement" projects are out of the way. Yep! Trains.comaholic and proud of it!

Hello, My Name is Noah, and I'm a trains.comaholic. I can tell that I'm in serious trouble when I actually start suffering withdrawl when I go on long vacations with no internet access. The information I learn on here is enourmous(enfact sometimes it begins to hurt my brain, and I have to go take a bathroom break before reading more.[;)]) I blame my problem on Model Railroader Magazine. In the back of one of the early 2004 Magazines, there was a note wanting people to post about the MR 70th anniversary car that the WSOR painted. Well, the car was in Reedsburg At the time, so I went to note it. I Had to join to post, and I decided to check out the other fourms while I was at it. And now well, I'm a regular of three forums, and I get three e-mail thingies, and well.... you know the rest...........

BROTHERS! My name is Richard and I've been told that there's none of my kind on earth but lookie here. They exist, WE EXIST!
This forum is my coffee break at work, which I take in-between saves (files, I'm a graphic artist), and this is quite often, I'm even ashamed to say how often here.
This is a very useful forum where I learn so much each and everyday, guess I'll be around for a very long timeā€¦ oh, gotta get get back to work for now the file save has just ended. Later.

What I notice is 2,269 posts since 12/27/04- OR 221 days OR - 10.27 posts A DAY! Thats gotta be a record or somethin'.

Since the quality of the posts and number of decent threads Space Mouse has started is voluminous to say nothing of awesome, I couldn't think of a better founder for Trains.comaholics anonymous.

Keep it rolling! [2c]

Mark

PS. I really like the evolving layout thread over on the Layouts/DCC subsite....your approach is one of the best ways to do DIY design and get generally good criticism. [swg]

Hi, I'm Karl and I have recently limited my self to only signing in on days with a 'Y' in them, and then I only log in once per day, (of course I never actually log out again [;)] ) but I still only do it once a day, so I figure I've got it completely under control, (somewhat).

The trouble is.... a great bunch of people, with a seemingly bottomless mine of knowledge and info and a willingness to share and help each other out, if only the rest of the world out 'there' was like that, who wouldnt want to keep coming back for more?

The other contributory factor to all this "gotta go check" is that it moves so darned fast !!

Like Ferris Bueller once said in a little flick of his ""This forum moves pretty fast, if you dont stop by and log in every 30 min you might miss something"" ... or something like that I think.

Y'all be safe and have fun, c u in 5 mins !
Karl.

Hi I'm Ken and I'm a trains-aholic too!

I think trains.com IS an online support group. As a few of you know, I've been doing a major trainroom renovation and layout rebuilding project since March. It's been day after day of the not-so-fun preparation activities that go with the hobby. I've been posting regular progress reports in the Coffee Shop thread, and that has helped me stay motivated to keep at it, "one-day-at-a-time." I probably would've lost interest long ago otherwise...

Is it so wrong to be addicted to the world's greatest hobby? I ask you, is it a crime to be obsessed with the very railroads that built this nation? Why, without these railroads, our nation would be little more than, umm, a nation without trains.[:D][:p][;)]

Listen to me deprogrammers...RUN RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN, YOU CAN'T CATCH ME, I'M A RAILROADING MAN![:D]
