Rail-Car Ferry for My Layout
Posted by rockythegoat on Monday, August 1, 2005 1:24 PM
Here is my completed rail-car ferry for my HO scale layout. The kit is the "Jubilee" and is by Model Expo. It's primarly of wood with brass, white metal, and nickel-silver code 83 rails, for details. It is large enough to hold (2) 40-50 foot cars.

While I don't normally build wood kits, I needed a break from all of the styrene glue fumes and this puppy was in the stash waiting to go. It went together well and was a fun kit. Recommend it highly. Enjoy the pics!

The last shot shows (2) 40-foot boxcars on the ferry.

Very nice. If only I had room for one on my layout...and modeled in HO scale. I am curious, though, will you be able to set it up so you can run cars onto it?

Excellent work!![bow][bow] The rust streaks on the end of the barge from the rails are a real nice touch. Post some pics when you get it in place.

Thanks for the kind words!

distantantennas: the connection to land will have an "underbite" for lack of a better word, which the end of the ferry will rest on. i've already set up a test piece of track and wood and it worked like a piece of cake.

tommyr: will do. what i'm trying to do is modify the Walther's car float apron to add a middle track that I can dock this one too. if it ends up being too goofy to do, i'll set a separate docking area.
