CSX's "Family"

Here's an interesting poll for CSX fans: What's your favorite CSX "fallen flag?"

If it is something other than the main roads stated put it under Short Lines/Other Roads or if it is Conrail oriented but not listed put it under One of Conrail's Fallen Flags.

Wow, what a tough decision! (So many great roads and their derivatives as well, of which I am very fond.) After much soul searching, I finally cast my vote in honor of my favorite gray tabby, Chessie, and voted C&O. (Mr. Huntington would be happy. [;)])

...Nevertheless, I also have a really big soft spot for SAL/ACL (SCL), too.

Of the modern derivatives preceding CSX, I really miss the vibrant eye-catching colors of the old "Chessie System" paint scheme.

P.S. uspscsx: You may want to add Pere Marquette to the ballot.

L&N I remember it from growing up and my grandfather used the L&N bridge from Cincinnati to Newport Kentucky to get back and forth to work. (in addition to a double track the bridge also had an auto lane and walkway. Now it is just a people bridge)

As a book guy I have to say I miss the Cheshire Cat paint scheme.

I see that the NC&StL ( Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis) is not on your list. It was owned by L&N (Louisville & Nashville) for many years prior to 1957. Both fallen flags are now part of CSX along with the Western & Atlantic ( Route of the Great Locomotive Chase of Civil War fame) which is owned by the state of Georgia and leased to CSX.

That is a hard pill to swallow...............Chessie System by far..........but the C&O runs a close second.............Paint Schemes From the Chessie System are missed along with the simplicity of C&O on the other side of the same coin..............

I live on the CSX main line north of Atlanta. I have lived here all my life, and have seen it go from L&N to The Family Lines to Seaboard System. My favorite was L&N, because they are responsible for my love of trains.

Has to be C&O. The first letter in C.S.X. is for Chessie, we all know where the Chessie cat came from so for me it is

Chessie System first with the L&N a close second, Family Lines third.
