restoring tips?

Need a little help. I just picked up 2 complete 0-27 Lionel train sets. The first set is with a #1060 locomotive& tender box with multiple other cars. The 2nd set is with a #2026 locomotive & tender box etc. The person that had them, used a can of black spray paint and painted overtop the shell of the locomotives. Any sites, books, tip etc. to help me restore them to original form, paint color codes, letter, decals etc? I picked them both up for only $30. So even if I use them for spare parts, I think I got my moneys worth.
Thanks in advance!

I did read many posts on "Removing Paint" etc... But I am looking for more specific details on how do actually make them as close to original as possible.
Thanks again for the help!
