Aggro, I have one of those three-pots-that-swivel type fixtures that sits about five feet above one side of the layout, and a double white flourescent at another corner. In that photo, one of the pots shines directly down over that area. Believe me, many other photos are quite horrible and grainy, and even worse on the CD that comes with the processed roll.

I have She Who Must Be Obeyed beginning to agree that we need to invest in a decent digital SLR (Canon or Nikon) with at least one decent lense. Then again, maybe lighting should come first?

Carl, you're going to pay her back big time on Mother's Day. They never forget! [:D][:D]

And to you and all: HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

OK Aggro! Your pictures have shamed me to start back with my landscaping. Here is a picture to mark this historical event. This is the start to a 12 foot long area that divides the 2nd level with the 3d. It will have a saw mill complex with track that crosses Blue Creek and Brandon's Gorge by way of a 40" scratch built trestle that is already built.

Trevor, i don't like the straight out of the box look, i like em old and battered looking, i did this for my son who wanted a scrapyard look for one of his old engines, i just painted it with instant rust all over to the instructions of my son, he thinks it looks great pulling his trains, it's not what i would do to my fleet though

Steve, all that beautiful BN green has me thinking of doing a "1975 Night" from time to time. They do look good, and to run them side by side with D&RGW stuff might be more excitement than I could take. [:D]

Thank you.
The rock formations were made from Woodland Scenic rock molds and colored with their color pigments using the leopard spot method. It was a lot of work to get the fit and required quite a bit of fussing. [banghead] [:D] Using ground foam helped to smooth the transition from rock to rock.

Thanks. I can not elaborate as well as Fugate. I'm more of a "do-er" than a "talk-er". He seems to be both. But I can state some of my techniques somewhere. Mabey I'll just tack it on his clinic.

SpaceMouse - it ought to look a lot like your B&P - that's what the engine started life as. As for sound, I've got the Atlas G&W MP15DC (#45) on order - the one with DCC and sound built in.

As for other photos of the layout, I have enough to cure any case of insomnia at

Jeff - good stuff - enjoyed checking out your layout. I'm working on a plan for a 2.5 x 8ft layout myself. big enough to have fun & take some pictures, small enough that I may actually build it!

Do any of your pictures show the overall track plan? (sorry, there are A LOT to browse through!)

Yeah, I do tend to be click happy... probably the best shot of it from a track plan standpoint is this one:
http://www.shultzinfosystems.com/gallery/W-P-Model-RR/P5290005

The track on the left ends immediately below the camera, the track on the right curves back another couple feet to give me some drill room from staging. I have a temporary extension at the far end of the mainline to enable me to use doubleheaded locomotives on the runaround:

Friday night on the PV&W - CB&Q #515 fresh out of the shop on the point of train #222 is captured on its east bound return trip at the trestle in Granite. #222 is the twice a week coal drag round trip from Platte City to the mine in White River.

Saturday night on the UP Branch, the last op session for the summer, - Under a dreary overcast sky the Hermosa switching crew grabs breakfast at the local greasy spoon while waiting the arrival of local #117. At 8:00 a.m. #117 is already 2 hours late due to heavy higher priority traffic.

I can't take the credit. It is a club layout hence the work of many people. The rocks are plaster formed with rock molds over newspaper dipped in plaster-of-paris base. Base color is painted on, highlights dry brushed, and then sprayed with various dark india inks until the desired effect is achieved.
