My N&W J Class and now a P2K 2-8-8-2 just arrived!!

Don't you just love it when the courier arrrives and he has a new loco in a box.

Just unpacked it and had a wee run up and back ( it's all I can do on this layout) much smoother than the 2-8-2 light I had and returned. Nice detail and fantastic sound.

Good news is it fits on the turntable (just!!) . My Mrs is away for 2 nights so I'm in new loco heaven.

The front coupler spring popped out so that might take 2 nights to put back in!!

I know that feeling, Ken, and it's sweeeeeeett. To have the missus away, and the whole time to fondle your new loco, well, that's just a private thing between us guys. Come to think of it, how DID that spring go 'sproing'? [:D]

Did you get your LL 2-8-8-2 yet? I saw one of the Class J's at the hobby shop last week, and even though it is a little newer than my era, I may not be able to resist.

Kevin, the 2-8-8-2 may arrive today, customs held it till I paid ransom.

The J runs like clockwork, starts to roll from one push of the go button, the verbal readout says 2, is that two scale miles per hour? Real slow anyway.

I need some passenger cars to suit now!!

I've got the mechanicals done on the Mantua it's real smooth too.

Hey Ken,
When those little springs come loose, I have found it easier
to just replace the coupler[;)]. But seriously, my patience don't allow me to

BTW you will like the 2-8-8-2, just be care to have good track as the front pilot truck is rather light

HighIron, Yup she's a BLI runs really nice, some have said there not good pullers, I'll have to wait and see, my wee layouts not long enough!!

Dave, I got that spring in no worries Randy R's trick hold it with a flat something halfway along, pushed in to the coils sideways, and then compress with a wee screwdriver and hook into place, took me two goes, easy.

How is the color maroon?
Not that I believe everything I read on forums, but it has been stated that the color was more purple than maroon.....?

I think the color is maroon, I've not seen the real one or any other brand J Class but it looks great to me.

It is a good model overall. I emailed BLI to ask for a new chip for the correct whistle, but I am sure that will not happen.

The BLI J whistle sounds the same as my Lionel Challenger. Both real engines had steamboat type whistles, but they were different tones.

Almost 50 years after their demise in real life, models of the N&W's outstanding steam engines are being enjoyed in.... New Zealand. I love it. You have excellent taste NZRMac. If you don't already have one, you need a Class A now.
