Frankenengine...
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 5, 2005 3:51 AM
Once upon a time there was a mad model railroader named Frank that had a dream of taking parts from various train engines and assembling them into what he considered the perfect engine. So he and his assistant Igor went around to train shows and garage sales and bought up dead engines for their hidious project. Then one stormy night, the mad model railroader sat down at his work table with a tube of super glue and went to work building his monster. After several hours, it was finished. Igor-the mad model railroader called out. Yes master replied Igor. Power up the test track. Yes master Igor uttered. Just as the hidious creation was placed upon the test track, a bolt of lightning struck the house sending a power surge through the monster engine. The lights flickered and sparks flew in all directions. Is it okay master ? Igor asked. It appears to be replied the mad model railroader. And then, the head light began to glow an erie orange, and it began to slowly move, then faster and faster around the track it started to go. It's alive, it's alive, it's alive cried the mad model railroader. I've done it Igor!. I've done only what model railroading manufacturers have been able to do... I've created a working engine from scratch. But what the mad model railroader didn't realize was that he had put in an evil motor with a mind of its own in his creation, and in time, he would wi***hat he had never made this monster train engine from hell-especially after it ran over Igor and hurt his pride, then escaped and terrorized the local country side by sneaking up on unsuspecting villagers and blowing its whistle...

What can I say. It's 3:45am and I can't sleep. Had to do something to pass the time. Hope you enjoy...[:p]

That sounds like some locos I've bought - have a Mainline 2-6-0 steam loco that makes noises like a food processor (despite being perfectly healthy!) and will actually begin to move faster on a constant thottle setting - you leave it running and come back to find it going a lot quicker than it was when you left...

Early 1960's MRR has an article about like that story, complete with a rendering of what such a beast might look like. Under the title there is a note from the editor apologizing for the silly article, but they felt they HAD to run it anyway. I'd have t go dig it out to find the author, but it is (was?) someone well-known for their typically outstanding work - proof that even the most serious of us have a very odd sense of humor.

I noticed a lot of you folks are making referances to Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein, but I actually took my version from the original 1930s version with Boris Karloff playing the monster...
