I've got a Rivarossi 2-8-8-2 mallet which appears to have a dead motor. Are there kits of ptroducts out there for repalcing these i=engines? ANYONE KNOW OF SOURCES, INCLUDING INSTRUCTIONS? I'd like to salvage is bad boy...

Have you tried replacing the brushes in the motor? Every "dead motor" I've had has turned out to be worn out motor brushes. They are very easy to replace. In Nscale a set of brushes cost about $1.25. Oh, and the ones I've replaced don't look like a brush. They are little cylindrical critters with a spring.

Golf Manor did have motor brushes, and a guy on eBay sells replacement motors for Riv engines; he will even paint them black for an extra $1 or so.
What could have happened.... did.
