The water has been poured...
Posted by dave9999 on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 11:53 PM
Tonight I finished off my pond by pouring the water. After it has dried
I plan to do a little more scenicing around the bank and add my
fisherman to the pier. Here are some photos. Enjoy, Dave

In the words of Montgomery Burns, "X-cell-ent!"

I'm getting ready to pour some water in my ponds as well. This is great inspiration!

Dave, great job, the pier looks right at home. Looking at the 2nd photo, it looks as if the pond is on the edge of the layout? If so, I am curious about what technique you used to dam this during the pour?

Simon,
I placed a piece of cardboard at the edge of the layout. I then build a dam with bead upon
bead of hot glue. After the glue dried, I cut the card board off at the top of the glue dam.
The hot glue dries clear, so it is almost invisible after the water is poured.
BTW, I use KlocKote resin for the water.

Looks great Dave, excellent shading/colouring on the pond bottom to give the perspective of depth. Looking forward to more progress pics.

Have fun & be safe

Karl,
I see by your sig photo that you do some pretty good water modeling yourself!
I really like your pier, I didn't have the space for something that size. Nice work, Dave

I really like whay you have done, but I've been to clear ponds that look just like that one. You can plainly see that there are no fish in that pond. Of course, that opens the ball for Forest Gump to limit out in less than an hour.

As someone else pointed out, nice illusion of depth, great job. I was wondering if the bottom is actually flat and all that depth is truly done through painting?

Do you have a picture of the bottom before pouring?

I have one of Dave Frary's videos in which he describes his techniques for painting bottoms of all sorts of waterways and yes, you can create the illusion just with paint and some woody debris, rocks, bushes and bulrushes along the shore. Nicely done job, Karl!!

Great work Dave9999! I am in the process of pouring a large pond (will take several layers to finish) and I can only hope it will look half as good. Anyone out there ever put scale (no pun intended) fish a pond?????

Ray, fish can be modeled using small pieces of foil rolled into a general fish shape, they catch the light nicely but not too much I guess kinda like a trout or salmon, place them between some of your layers if you are doing multiple pours.

Hope this helps,
Karl.

(The water in my river is actually just over 1/8" deep, 2 thin pours of epoxy, just enough to cover the fine talus I used for the banks)
