drgwnut1,

Many of my serious train buddies and I use the Axian Technology Car Cases to store and carry our rolling stock. The HO cases store nominally 16 - 20 cars, sometimes more, and the N cases even more. I have used them to get rid of (to storage in the garage) the small individual boxes that were such a nuisance to sort through.

Each of my car cases contains either a full train (or a significant part of one) or groups of like cars or all one road name. This way, I can find what I am looking for quickly and be ready to run whatever whenever. The Tote Bags hold five Car Cases. With five loaded Cases and all the contained cars weighted properly, a loaded Tote is kind of heavy, but definitely the way to move your trains.

Axian Technology is an Avionics manufacturer whose owners sell the Car Cases as part of their interest in the hobby. Contact them at 1-800-466-3131. The boxes are $18.95 each and the tote bags are $29.95. I order 5 at a time and with shipping it is just barely over $100. It is definitely the way to go if you are serious about safely storing, inventorying, and finding your trains.

Other comments: The foam lining the boxes can adhere to the car body and remove paint and decals. I line mine with a 1 5/8" strip of cheap felt from Wal-Mart. The felt really dresses up the Car Case and protects the rolling stock. I use Elmer's blue Gel Glue because it dries flexible, where their white glue does not.

With my last order, received last week, I asked for additional labels for the Cases. I've got so many now that I have to number them and include a description of the contents to know where specific things are.

drgwnut 1, welcome.

I use the Proto Power West case and boxes. I think it cost is slightly more than the system Mark C. listed (not totally sure as I talked my wife into it as a Christmas present!). They also have boxes specifically for HO and N scale rolling stock.

Mark, grreat idea on the felt, the PPW system also has the foam that snags the details.

I have a couple big boxes from train boxes plus. They are made of reallys strong cardboard and probably hold 50-60 cars. I have only seen them selling at local shows but I thinkk you can order on thier website www.trainboxesplus.com

I've used the ones from Trainboxes Plus. The only weakness that I have noticed is that the couplers can catch on the foam. Overall I'm pleased with mine.

I use the plastic storage boxes which you can purchase in any number of stores. All the big box stores have them. I use bubble padding or flexible foam to separate layers of cars and you can put a couple of trains in each box.

Well,if you like I am and try to save money in order to buy other goodies-such as the newest engine-I use medium and large pizza boxes that I get at a local pizza joint.Oh the cost? Free..I just ask..
