Features on a tender.

drawings done by Al Armitage in Mainline Modler of an IHB 0-8-0 while quite complete and detailed omitted three circular features surround by rivets on the left front end of the tender shown in some accompanying prototype pictures .
Does anyone have an idea of what they were?

Thanks

Well, they don't appear on either IHB 0-8-0 photo on the Fallen Flags site, so I'd assume that they are patches. Of course, you know what they say about assuming...

They are on what appears to be the builders pictures as well as a later picture when it had been in service for a while. There is something there
