Painting realistic clouds...can someone help?

I'm about to paint some sky and am really puzzled by how to obtain realistically looking clouds.Seemed easy at first thought but a few trys haven't been successful.Any tricks anybody?Thanks.

I'd like to know how to do cirrus clouds. You know, the high thin ones. My artistic ability might be taxed a little hand painting them. Spray and stencils maybe?

I can tell you that the clouds higher on the backdrop need to be larger and decrease in size toward the horizon to give an illusion of distance.
