Bachmann the keystone trainset

I have a Bachmann The Keystone trainset but am not sure how to connect the drawbar of the locomotive to the tender. Also, what is the tether connecting the loco and the tender for? Is it for DCC? Please help! Modeltrainman

Welcome to the forum

The "tether" you mention is most likely the electrical connection between loco and tender (for lighting/tender pickups/sometimes the DCC socket is in the tender). There should be a matching socket in the loco cab somewhere.

Regarding the drawbar, I've not seen one of these locos so can't be of much help. Usually drawbars either rely on a plastic peg hooking into them or the end of the drawbar clipping around a peg - is the end of the drawbar shaped like a "C" or is it a complete loop? if the former, it probably clips on, if the latter, it will be designed to hook over something. Hey, good to see a new face, trainman. My Life Like Heritage 0-6-0 only has the wires between the loco and tender as the 'drawbar'. It works fine for hauling rolling stock.

The sockets are at the bottom of the cab

the c-type coupler has a nub on each side. I'm new to HO scale trains, so please ignore me replying to myself, I'm trying to give you all as much info about the problem as possible.

Selector- has it shown any signs of wear and tear. Please reply as I don't want to have a nonworking loco!
