New Layout- River Rat Junction R&R Update
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 7, 2005 11:09 PM
HO. 12'x8' L shaped. As some have seen from previous pictures I have posted, in the last month I have completed the sectional benchwork (4 pieces), at a friends garage. glued 3 inches of foam to 1/2 inch plywood ( many cut outs to keep it light), 1x4" stringers on the bottom, have completed the legs and have moved the 4 sections to my Florida Condo where the layout will reside in the second bedroom. When I get it all bolted together in its new home, I will put on some pictures.

In the meantime, I am finishing up the drop in backdrop and building switch panels. I cut the plexiglass today. When I am sure of the track plan, I will tape and paint the panels. When I get that far, I plan on using all tortoise on Atlas Customline switches (# 6"s) as I have a bunch left over from a previous layout.
I also play on using the DPDT switches on the panels to control the Tortoises.
By the way, do these switches come in diffrent sizes???? and will the size of the switch make a diffrence in any way?

Also, in the last year while thinking what I wanted in my head, I tool a stab at scratch building some buildings that I will include on the layout. I hope to take some pics of these tomorrow and put them on the forum and see what you guys think of some first efforts at scratch building! I certainly enjoyed doing it!

Thanks, DON

They sure do. Take your pick
You've been a busy man. When do you find time to do all of this?

Size doesn't mater. It's power rating if anything. The power draw from a Tortois is small.

No need for the 20-amp toggle switches, or the 15-amp ones, either. Whatever rating, just make sure they are on-on and not momentary contact. If you have several to choose from, pick the ones with the paddles (switch levers) you like best.

Saw your building on the other thread. In the words of that wise philosopher, Tony the Tiger, it's GRRRREEEEEAAAAATTTTT.
