Have i recked a model?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 1, 2005 11:01 PM
Hi

TOday i went to my lhs and bought a model kit of a building. Trouble is that i got some glue on it in spots and it dried white.

What can i do to save this model?

Any advise on how to get rid of it or cover it up?

Many thanks

You might want to try cleaning the white spots very gently with a Q-tip soaked in finger-nail polish remover. Fingernail polish remover is a solvent for CA adhesive. If the discoloring is too widespread or deep, this probably won't do any good. But if it is just surface discoloration, it might be successful.

Good Luck.

You could also try some light sanding to see if that will help. Paint and weathering could also help. Perhaps some white glue and ground foam to simulate ivy growing up the building or a big tree to block the view? Maybe some ventalation shafts, gutters or other detail item? Depending on the location and size of the spots, there are many possible solutions.

Pavariangoo,

How to thank us? Simple. Post a pic of the building when you're finished with it! Glad it worked out!

Do what we in the architectural world advise for bad fixes or just plain poor design work.

PAINT IT.

Most building kit's are plastic and sensitive to solvent's.
Many plastic building kit's are shiny.

A 'flat' paint (such as FLOQUIL / POLLY SCALE) will take care of both.
