What i like a bout the 0-4-? yard goat is that from the front, it looks as if the engine is leaning forward, it makes it look like its going fast even when its stoped, yet the 4-8-8-4 is still my favorite. And the 2-8-2 SP mikado on the Austin Texas Central will ALWAYS hold a very special place in my heart.

I too like all the steamers, but prefer the smaller Moguls and Americans. They fit the period I'm modeling.

My favorite is and always will be the Great Northen class M 2-6-8-0 though the class N3 2-8-8-0 runs a close 2nd.
Have both ,The M3 from Challenger Models and the N3 from Tenshodo
In the non-articulated Locomotives would love to have one of the NW 4-8-0s....just love their looks.

C&O H-8 Allegheny! The Big Boy isn't the king in the east. N&W and B&O had some fantastic articulated steam engines also.

I second rogerhensley on this one, the 2-8-2 Mikado is my favorite. I'm an East Broad Top fan and love the their 3' gauge mikes.

I'm a Pennsy steam fan, and even then I probably can't nail down one. Of course the K4 is on the short list. I liked the look of the T1 (4-4-4-4), too. For some reason, those slow, lumbering 2-10-0s were also on the list of my favorites. 8mph up the hill from Altoona to Gallitzin, chugging, billowing smoke and panting, but their did the job, on both ends of the train. But then again, I have a soft spot for just about anything from the world of steam.

I know exactly what your talking about. SteamTown in Scranton has a Big Boy on Display, it took two pictures to get it all. Man that was a great day, Thats why i went back two years later!

The C&O T-1 2-10-4, They lugged 160 car, 13,500 ton coal trains from the Ohio river straight through to Toledo, and they performed this service for more than 20 years, plus their drawbar HP equalled some of the articulated locomotives of the day, pretty impressive, I"d say.

My vote is for the 2-10-0 Russian Decapods. Mainly because it's available for the Atlantic Coast Line!!!

Must admit, I didn't vote cause pretty much anything that burns coal and steams is a favorite. Ken PS more so if it has ERIE on the side of the tender! [:D]

4-6-0 ten wheeler, 4-4-2 Atlantic, 4-6-2 Pacific, 4-4-0 American are all favorites. I also like 2-8-0 Consolidations and 2-6-0 Moguls along with Shays and Forney's.

I like the smaller steam 2-8-0's and ten wheelers specifically. They were the unsung workhorses that always seemed to be there untill the end.All work no play no big glory just dependable and hard working. Rob

Ah, we're back to our monthly steam locomotive poll, are we? Well, mine just keep pretty much the same--Missabe M3/4 2-8-8-4, SP AC-6 4-8-8-2, Rio Grande L-131 2-8-8-2, Rio Grande L-105 4-6-6-4, NP/GN/SP&S Z-series 4-6-6-4, Rio Grande M-78 4-8-2, Rio Grande F-81 2-10-2, Rio Grande ANYTHING that's standard-gauge steam. Throw in an Allegheny, Pennsy's 4-8-2's, and 2-10-4's, a C&O Mike, GN's S-1 4-8-4, let's see--aw Hell, if it steams, I pretty much like it!
