Hi Guys,
My favorite way to weight cars is to use pennies. As another fella above mentioned, those expensive lead weights with sticky on the back do come loose over time. As far as glue, a little-discovered secret is to use Alene's Tacky Glue, available at Michael's and Joanne's craft stores. It is cheap and is great for glueing dissimilar materials like pennies and plastic. And, the reason it's better than CA is that if you ever want to remove something, it will pull off with a twist. In other words, it doesn't attack plastic. It's also much thicker than Elmer's glue and dries more quickly.

As far as weighting coal hoppers, I use the lead shot method, also mentioned above and then spread the Tacky Glue all over it. However, while the glue is wet, I sprinkle a little "coal" on it. Therefore, when I remove a "coal load" after delivery to an industry (in between operating sessions), my cars appear empty with just a little bit of residual coal in the bottom.

Hope this helps.
