MisterBeasley I was an old Dodger fan, so old that the first live game I ever saw was at Ebbet's Field, home of the Brooklyn Dodgers. i remember that day like it was yesterday, the impossibly blue sky, the impossibly green grass, and my heroes right there on the field, Duke Snider, Gil Hodges, Sandy Koufax, Jackie Robinson, even Don Zimmer. I eventually lost interest in them, and became a Red Sox fan. There is nothing like a live game in Fenway Park, even in those meaningless last few weeks of the season when some guys know it's time to clean out their lockers and hit the road.

Hi everyone,
Mr. B: That would have been really neat to have seen a game at Ebbets. There was an oldRed Skeleton skit at the time the Dodgers were moving to LA. He was being one of his characters, Freddie the Freeloader, and his shack was in the middle of Chavez Ravine (where Dodger Stadium was eventually built). The "move thr Dodgers to LA" girl would persuade Freddie to let them relocate his shack, and the "keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn" girl would persuade him to keep his shack where it was. This went back and forth. I don't remember any of the jokes, but I do remember the scene.
But, for a Red Sox fan, I do have one question. What is the thing with "Sweet Caroline?" It doesn't make any sense to me, but apparently Red Sox fans love it.
Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)
I have no idea how the Sweet Caroline thing started, but it has been around a long time. During a World Series run, they actually had Niel Diamond come out and sing it on the field. The suits in management tried to eliminate it by not striking up the band when it was expected, but the entire crowd caught on and sang it anyway, without the musical accompaniment.
Even here in Delaware bands at bars will sing it and the whole crowd joins in. I seem to recall the same thing happening on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The Sox travel well.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Thanks guys for prayers and thoughts etc. for Dawn. They worked.Apparently it is now a practice for our doctors here to warn people that whatever they have wrong could turn to cancer. Dawn has enough challenges without mentioning that. Anyway, she has the same challenges as before plus a sore throat due to the CPAP machine. More medicine and 'sent home'. We can live with that.

Good morning, everyone.
My trip to a hobby shop yesterday was not good. They had almost nothing I wanted on my list. I don't normally go to this place, but it was in a city that I had an appointment in. Now I will have to drive to Spring Creek Model Railroad shop to get the things I want. They will either have what I want or they will get it for me. I love that place.
Have a great Friday, everyone.

Good morning, diners.
We're in the calm before the storm. It a beautiful morning, but later a three-day storm hits with rain changing to snow. At least we dodged the snow-ice earlier this week that hit most of the states east of us.
JaBearI gather from my daughter who works in the Health Sector that “Medical Disclosure” is something taken very seriously by the Profession.
Yes, I'm sure that's the case. It's like watching an ad for some medicine on TV, and half the commercial is a list of all the side-effects.
There's another forum thread that questioned where all of our former posters have gone. I know that another forum has them, but I wish they would come back here. It's almost like part of the family is missing. I have a feeling one of the diner's readers is hoping the diner dies out.
March Madness is not as interesting for me this year. I'm not sure why. Normally, I enter some bracket contests -- mostly family ones -- but this year I haven't filled out even one.
When I was working, one of the fun events was having students fill out brackets in a principal's contest. I always promised a huge prize for the best bracket. The prize was always a candy bar.
It was funny because some athletic boys always thought they knew everything and their bracket was going to win. It nearly killed them when someone who knew nothing about sports won the contest.
I hope everyone has a great Saturday.

Evening diners. Flo, I'll buy a round for everyone. Make mine a Landshark Lager.
John, I for one hope the diner keeps on rolling along. The camaraderie here is really nice. I think everybody brings something to the table and that's great. If there's somebody here who wants it to die out, I hope we figure out who that is and throw them from the rear platform during a move.
Hope everyone has a nice evening.
Mike

Hi Everyone,
Brunhilda, aWestern Cider, please.
ok, admittedly I don't post on the forum everyday, but I don't understand what some people would have against this forum, and why they think it's so much better somewhere else. The posters here all seem like a good bunch and everyone has contributed mightily. I've learned a lot from you all and about you all. As far as I'm concerned it's all good. The malcontents usually don't stick around and the rest of the crew gets along just fine.
i don't get it.

Good morning, everyone. It's another Donut Day, so I'll have just coffee this morning.
There's a sound outside that is music to everyone's ears on the plains -- it's raining! The only downside is that it's supposed to turn to snow tonight.
Also, my wife won't be happy -- this will be her first time getting the car out of the garage and getting it wet! I'm sure she will be hitting the car wash as soon as the rain stops. She can't possibly stand seeing her baby with rain spots on it.
On the layout front, I've nearly finished the current project of installing and lighting a building. I should be able to run a train again by this evening. It will be relaxing just turning everything on and watching the trains actually moving and doing something. Tomorrow, another project starts. The new scratchbuild project will be my most challenging yet. I hope it turns out half as well as I picture in my head.
I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

I sometimes bring a list to a hobby shop or a train show, but if I end up with nothing from the list I'm still never disappointed. I might find a bag of trees instead, or an unbuilt, undecorated boxcar kit missing a truck but with 3 extra doors. A train show, of course, is worth the trip just because it's a train show, and even if I come home with nothing but pictures the day was a success.
Bear, are you feeling OK? I wouldn't expect any leftovers from a bear chowing down on a small roast like that. We went out to a local Portuguese wine dinner last night. We were treated to a feast, with 5 imported Portuguese wines and five hand-made Portuguese courses. The wine distributor and the chef gave a brief talk with every course, and we as usual realized that the staff really enjoyed preparing a whole meal of special foods they don’t get to make every day. Yumm.

Good morning all. A large coffee and a Belgian Bun please, Chloe. I'll sit by the window and watch the world go by.
Thanks for your concern, gentlemen. Dawn is having better days. Her physiotherapist arrives today.
A busy evening as I take younger granddaughter to Brownies. I do not get home until nearly 9.00pm. (The joys of being a grandparent. )
Hope to see the train room today.
Good morning, diners. Flo, I'll have bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.
No snow this morning -- only rain! Very nice!
This is my kind of week. There is one church meeting tonight, and then nothing scheduled the rest of the week. To keep it that way, I feel like turning off the phones and locking the front door. Even at that, I'm sure something will come up.
Dr. Pepper? When I was younger, I used to drink that a lot. Then for no particular reason (no health reasons, weight problems, or sugar reasons), I gave up soft drinks. Now it's only coffee, beer, or water.
It's funny that as I've traveled, the soft drinks are called a lot of different things. Here in the Midwest, we call it 'pop'. In New Orleans, it was called either a 'soft drink' or a 'cold drink'. In Georgia, it didn't matter the brand, it was called 'Coke'. I'm sure where all you diners live, it's probably got a lot of different names. No matter what it's called, I don't drink it anymore.
Time for the bacon and eggs. I hope all of you have a great day.

Good Morning,
Still cold here. Won't get above freezing until Sat. Expecting snow tomorrow from a storm TF is sending our way as he does like to share.
John, we call it pop here. I think Dr. Pepper is available now but I had never heard of it until travelling to the US in the '70s. I don't like it but then again I don't like any carbonated beverages which includes a lot of beer.
I have a light schedule this week. A couple of errands today, a grocery pickup and a drop off of the info to our tax guy.
I did run trains yesterday, the J4e Pacific with a short passenger consist. It runs great but I am not impressed with the chuff sound of the Tsunami2 decoder. I have an early Tsunami in a Bman Consolidation and it sounds better. I suppose I could get the decoder changed but I have spent enough on that loco.

Again? This is like the fourth time this week. I try to post something simple, and when I hit Submit Your Reply, the site says You're Offline and dumps the post. There are only two sites I visit that do this. Not sure if this is a clue about this site's poor performance, but this is getting so bad that I am considering looking for Kevin myself.
I have tried to post about four times in the last week and the post goes poof while I am still typing, I don't even get to the submit button.
Got some stairs built.
Here goes, made it to the point of hitting the submit button at least.

Hello diners! Been busy with some family time so not in the diner much. I've had some luck when I hit submit and get sent to a trains.com back page by just pressing the back button on my browser, and I'm back on the post page with my whole post still there. Another press of submit and BINGO! I'm currently sitting in the sun watching my daughter swim for the first time in over three years as her medical issues made swimming impossible until today. Life is good. Hope everyone is doing well!

I gave up posting pictures here weeks ago. I comment on certain threads now.
I must admit I haven't been timed out etc like previously.
OK, I'm know I'm going to jinx myself --
I haven't had any problems posting comments or pictures.

I used to drink a lot of Dr Pepper, until I got diabetes. I finished the last 6-pack and haven't had one since. I don’t miss it, or any other sugary soda. I have coffee, milk and beer. I know, beer's not good for me either, but I still would rather have 5 years of steak and beer instead of 10 years of brown rice and vitamin water.
Good morning diners. Flo, coffee please.
Bear, thanks for the kind words. We're all hoping it's smooth sailing for her from here on out. Fingers crossed.
I used to love Dr Pepper until I got covid in the summer of 2021. It hasn't tasted right since, although it's slowly returning to the taste I remember. Weird.
David, I miss your layout pics here. I do hope you are able to post them again someday.
Cheers gentlemen!
It's a nice Spring morning outside -- 21°F, 25 mph wind, quarter inch of ice on everything, snow, -- even the dog didn't want to walk today. Chloe, I'll have coffee, please.
Thankfully, we have no reason to go out today since nothing is planned. Driving home after last night's meeting, I reached a top speed of 10 mph on the ice. It's a semi truck burial ground in the Interstate ditches. Do those drivers really think they are immune to icy roads?
The best thing about all this is that I have a full day of trains!
I've finally convinced my wife to get an 11 inch Android tablet. She's always complaining how her eyes hurt when she's reading everything on her phone. Of course, she refuses to use the laptop. This should also help when she tries to show me photos of the family on her ½ inch big phone screen. I may actually be able to see what the grand kids look like with the new tablet.
Have a great day, everyone.

David, have you tried simply pasting the BB Code directly in your post as if it were text? Try that instead of using the button to add a photo. Just copy the BBCode, paste it directly in your post, press enter, continue. It's what works for me.
