Old Model Railroader Magazines

I received numerous Model Railroader Magazines after a friend of my family passed away. They are about 50 years old and are in great condition. The oldest I have is from December 1947 with various others like October 1953, June 1956, April 1950, December 1954. I also have some old hard cover books that were copyrighted in 1938. I am trying to figure out how much these things are actually worth. Can anyone out there help me with how much the magazines might be worth now a days? I will appreciate it greatly.

Log on to ebay and check out the category on model railroad books and magazines to get some current data on how much people are actually selling or buying for. Check recently closed auctions, you can't tell how it's going to wind up while the auction is still in progress. I've found the prices to be all over the board.

You can look the books up here http://www.abebooks.com/ Abe Books is one of the largest collections of listings of used books for sale on the net. Thousands of booksellers list their inventory there and the prices can be all over the place. Condition is all improtant for fiction and only slightly less so for nonfiction.

Let me know if you find anything of value >$100. I would like to brag about the assist on the bookcollecting newsgroup.

Donations to the librairies would be nice and possably tax deductable for you. If you want to try selling the lot to a used book dealer expect to be offered only about 1/3 to 1/5 of what they think they could eventualy sell them for. If that does not discourage you I could ask around about any bookstores that specalize in railroad items.
