Hello —
It has been a year since I've had my E6 open but I do have a few photos on hand that may help. As I recall there are four screws but some may be easily mistaken for ones that hold the electrical tether. Again, my memory may be a little fuzzy.

Two up front are located by swinging the pilot wheels to one side.

The rear two are located right ahead of the firebox backhead. I don't recall if they are hidden and I can check later and update my reply if I find further information.

Hope that helps, Ed
In my case, I initally removed those screws and tried to remove the top of the loco. It would not move. I did not want to force the 4-4-2, so I posted my dilema on this forum. I now know that their are only 4 screws holding the top to the bottom. What I found out was that the top and bottom are tightly fitted together. It took some force to start a separation of the pieces.
Thanks Ed for your help
