It is now noon here as I edit this, and I am not working today, so I guess I might as well enjoy a Smithwick's Red Ale!

Good morning everyone, well it is almost noon here. Chloe, could you have the cook make me a BLT, but also add a fried egg on top? Thank you.

As soon as my wife returns home from an appt., I'll begin cutting down the large maple tree that is now dying.  I'm not going to cut the trunk and have the tree fall over -- it's a little close to the house.  I'm going to go up the tree and cut out branches one at a time until it's manageable.  I hope to keep everything away from the house.  If you don't hear from me again, you'll know I was probably too old to be doing this.

Please be very careful. I removed a couple of trees from my yard about ten years ago, and it was very difficult. The last one I hired they guys that do my lawn mowing to remove it, and that was $200.00 very well spent.

Good morning

Thanks for the Brewski Kevin, I'll save it for this afternoon.  Man!, that BLT with an egg on top sounds like the perfect breakfastDinnerDinner  Just wish there was the fixings for it.  Where do you come up with these Contraptions? Laugh

Those trees can be a tough act to follow John.  Used to Moonlight for a tree and landscape company, in between carpentry jobs back in the day.  One of the workers was a little green, and instead of having a steady pull on the rope, he bounced the tree and it fell the wrong wayTongue Tied  Be careful my friend.  Did ya finish painting the house yet?

I'm bummed outSad  All My Blood Sweat and Tears, literally, down at the space didn't turn out.  Out of all the prep that's always 95% of the job, the paint the customer picked is too dark.  The accent wall that was supposed to look smoke, is black, and the common walls look like they should be the accent wall.  Do you know how hard it was to paint when you don't like what you're seeing? Crying  Oh well, the walls need a second coat anyway, as they haven't been painted in years.  She ain't gonna like it either, and will switch to lighter colors, ...Hopefully!

Judy got a surprise day off and wants to go out for a fancy lunch.  Surprise, Surprise, SupriseLaugh  Wish all you guys could come out to lunch, but I'm afraid Judy wouldn't flip the billLaugh  I'll get itYes

It's a given you all enjoyed the coconut shrimp.

Hopefully you took my advice and got the fresh flown in daily Salmon.

Goes without saying, a must be favorite of the Bear's favorite, as they don't serve junk fish at MallardsLaugh

But if you got that N-Orleans Gumbo with Judy, you still batted the ball out of the park.

Thanks for coming out for lunch, as your company was much enjoyed.  Just relax and take a little nap, as the tip was taken care of by yours truly too.

Just treat me one of John's Church Donuts I've been hankering for, and a cup of that good coffee next time I'm in the Diner KidsSmile...Wink

My guy uses a man-lift:

Tree Deconstruction by Edmund, on Flickr

He put in a 12 hour day including removal of about a dozen tree stumps. This neat little stump grinder follows him around like a puppy. He carries a remote control unit and just stands back while the machine does its thing!

Total bill was $800! No complaints here. We did all the cleanup which is OK with us.

Kevin, TF, and Ed, I'm still right-side-up.  I got a lot of the tree cut.  There are still a few high branches to cut before I start on the trunk.  It will have to wait until next week.  Tomorrow I have a date with our bathroom.

I am careful with cutting wood.  Years ago, cutting firewood, the chainsaw sliced into my boot.  It stopped about a millimeter from my foot.  Ever since then, I have been very, very cautious.

I'm unhappy about this tree.  It was a beautiful Maple that turned brilliant orange in the fall.  I'm not sure what happened to it.  A local nursery worker said a lot of maples in our area did not do well in the several-year-long drought we have had.

Anyway, it will leave a big gap in our yard.  I will try to replant a tree there before winter.

I had an oak, maybe 4' in diameter that was rotting from carpenter ants.  It cost more than $1,000.  I also had a sycamore, one of the dirtiest trees ever, and that was close to the same.  Sycamore burns well but it is a awful tree to split the wood.  The grain seems twisted.  I also offed a maple.  It was close to the house and was home to a bazillion ants.

TF your fish reminded me of Herringchoker's final post.  That must have been a tough one for him to write.

We moved to VA 3 years ago.  Our MD nextdoor neighbor called to tell us she had a 2" colon tumor and was going to have surgery.  She mostly talked to my wife, who is a breast cancer survivor.

After surgery she has answered our calls and text messages with "call you soon."   She has not called.  Good news is not hard to share.  Bad news is.

Henry, I know you are a medical man, so I have a question about this.  Our doctor told me years ago before my first colonoscopy that the procedure was the best way to avoid colon cancer.  Is that really the case?

My grandfather died of it, so I have been faithful about getting the colonoscopies when scheduled.  I don't like it, but I do it.

I've seen at least one video where someone with a deaf dog (the owner may also have been deaf) taught the dog some words in sign language. The dog actually could understand.

Article in this past Sunday's Philly Inquirer about Cole, they deaf South Jersey Pit Bull, being named ASPCA dog of the year.

And, as always, we had the traditional Chariot Races on Sunday morning!

Chariot races are an absolute blast. The rules are very similar to simple auto racing games like Formula-D, but chariots make it just a little more fun.

Eight hundred for twelve hours of hard work with the right equipment sounds like a fair price. When my trees get just a little bigger, I will need a guy too!

TF I thought that it was a pic of a fish at Mallards that you posted.   Whatever it was, it looked like grilled salmon to me, which got me to thinking about seafood, which led to Herringchoker's fishing stories.

John I absolutely believes it prevents cancer or catches it at a curable state.  My neighbor never had a colonoscopy until she was 59 and having symptoms of pain. The current recommendation is age 45.   Certain polyps are thought to turn into cancer after years.  I have had some of those polyps, every other colonoscopy since I was 50.

The stool DNA tests are not recommended for people with a history of polyps or a family history of colon cancer.  Makes me wonder how good the are.

Gotcha

Yep!, it flaked apart just like its supposed to.  That was some good salmon.  The best salmon is at Maynards in Minnatonka, Minnesota though, once you have that, with whatever that glaze they do, your spoiled for lifeDinner

The Sea Bass at PF Changs is quite the Treat as wellDinner

When it's prepared to perfection like those world class chefs do, there's nothing fishy about it.

This is good news. Please continue to be careful.

I have the Royal Poinciana on the North side of the house. This thing requires constant trimming of the branches. I am not enjoying that now that it has reached a mature height.

Hi all,

I've been packing up my trains and train accessories. I'm moving from Lancaster City PA to Baltimore MD soon. I have already gotten many of my trains boxed up, and so far, no big suprise there are way more trains than I thought I had! I may thin out the collection a bit over time. Of course, I am not looking forward to taking down the shelf layout, but thankfully I have a place to put it. As it's 10' wide, and the layout is 8' wide, I may add extensions and a wrap around back drop. I'm going to try and meet more model railroaders in the Bmore area and I'll not be far from the B&O museum.

On the non-MR front, my family is leaving Lancaster PA as well so I'll help them with their move to Baltimore. And yay they will be a short distance from where I'll be living. I've already moved some furniture there. I'll be living with my sister and her 9mo daughter. I'm looking forward to that, and hoping it all works out well. I'll look for work there and hoping I wll find a respectable job.

Well wishes to all,

Alvie H

Good Morning Diners.  Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Frosted Flakes please.

Crummy week at work, but hey, it's Friday!  My oldest is coming home today for the weekend, my youngest has homecoming, and I'm not staring down a bunch of work to do at the house.  All wins in my book!

Whatcha think?

I like it!  Then Ed provided the photos and I like it even more! Laugh

Kevin, the meatloaf looks good!  Mine was pot roast last night.  Turned out top notch!

I got a Bachmann NYC Hudson in the mail this week. Big Smile  Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.  Looks pretty good.  Runs pretty smooth.  Sounds better than the SoundValue line as it has the TCS decoder in it.  Soundtrax is still my favorite for steam though.  The transition between individual chuffs when running slower and a basically continuous exhaust while moving quickly is too abrupt with the TCS decoders I have.

I also discovered that I'm still having issues with my throttle.  It's really bizarre.  I'm going to have to spend some time trying different combinations so I can provide as much info to NCE as possible.  It appears to be related to the radio feature as I discovered that if I removed the batteries from the throttle, unplugged the radio receiver, plugged the throttle in directly, and then turn on the system, it works right.  Any one of those things different and it doesn't.  I don't get it.

Here's to a good day!

No, they do not.

I am curious if that B-17G went directly from the USAAC to the gas station, or was it rescued from fire fighting service.

I would like to build a 1/72 scale model of a B-17G, but paint the top turret to look like an R2 unit and name it the Womp-Rat Bopper.
