I have a special set of decals to apply to a WSOR box car and need to know:

What the model color will be closest to the prototype. Photos of the prototype car in the 503xxx series show the entire car to be a deep red with the exception of the trucks which may be black.

Which model manufacturer has the closest model to the prototype. The same prototype photos show that the car appears to be welded, no outside bracing or ribs and is a double plug door configuration, is standard 50 feet long and not a high cube.

The decals are the [^] 9-11[^] commorative decals and the set is complete with car dim data and other markings.

SP4449, As the resident WSOR expert(or at least the best we have here a side from stokerk, another member), You are in the same boat I have been for a long time. I model the WSOR, and have two WSOR sets of decals, one the 9-11, one a regular RBL to do sometime soon(I'm assuming your using the Scale rail graphics decals, they're the only one out there.) Truth is, they come in many shades of colors. Most are closer to brown, but some are a redish. I'd say that a straight brown is too Dark, most of the brown cars are between tan and brown. I plan on buying a 20 dollar air bru***eenage budget) and the old can of air from Wally World(Wall Mart) to get the right mix.

Now, I belive the 9-11 cars when first painted were closer to redish. For this, from a person who's done the boxcars(he actualy owns the models in the pictures on the Scale rail graphics site) and a friend of mine, he reccomends using Badger/ModelFlex light tuscan oxide red, (#16-14). So for the 9-11 cars, those should work.

You are correct, the decals are from Scale Rail Graphics. I will try to find the color you mentioned for the cars. Which mfr/model car were you going to use?

Well, I was told by Scale Rail Graphics that the Atlas, Evans 53' boxcars were the exact prototype. I plan on using both those and the slightly cheaper Athearn 50' double plug door boxcar, which is what Athearn used for the MR 70th Anniversary car. It is really close to the Atlas ones.
