I have three that tie....
4-4-2 penski atlantic
0-6-0 B6 penski
0-4-0 A5 penski

I dont really care that they are penski's, I just like the looks and mechanics of them.
So, i have all three, well, 2 of 3, the 3rd should be in the mail...
I have a MDC 4-4-2 in my own paint scheme
I have a sunset 0-4-0 A5 in factory paint (i will some day remove the logo on it)
I am waiting for my sunset 0-6-0 B6 in weathered paint (again I will remove the logo on it)

Of course it's a C.P.R. K-1-a "Northern" 4-8-4 #3100, there were only 2 and they were beauties, thankfully they are preserved #3100 is in Ottawa and #3101 is in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Now THIS is a model I would like to see in HO. who needs those dinky little Royal Hudson's.

SP&S 700. She's big, she's powerful, she's beautiful and best of all,
She's alive and well and steaming out of Portland, Oregon,. (I also
like the GN O-8 Mikado, R-2 2-8-8-2, N-3 2-8-8-0, S-1 and 2 Northerns
and the M-2 2-6-8-0 and most other GN stuff.)

Ten-Wheelers.

Any of them.

All of them.

Too bad no one makes a reasonably priced one in N scale.

Well, we've been here before--just last month, in fact--but it's always an interesting forum topic. Mine are the big ones--Missabe M3/4 2-8-8-4, SP AC-6 4-8-8-2, Rio Grande L-131 2-8-8-2, Rio Grande L-105 4-6-6-4. Oyeah, can't forget those gorgeous C&O 2-6-6-6 Alleghenies, can I? Who cares if putting them to work on coal trains was like hitching a Kentucky thoroughbred to a Conestoga wagon? They were beautiful!

Some of the others on mein list are the GN R-2, NP Z-8, SP AC-12, UP 4000 class, and ATSF 2900 class. I love giant steam!

I would have to second that on the Nickel Plate Berkshires. Especially #765 restored by the Fort Wayne historical society. They made it look just like my Rivarossi. Or is that the other way around?

I have an old Nickel Plate Road Berkshire that we ran back in the 1970's, and I would like to fix it up for service again. It really is a nice piece of machinery for an HO scale loco. It has been boxed up for almost 30 years now, took it out the other day to test it, no dice!

Any tips out there for fixing up an old steam loco?

MAJOR OVERHAUL ! ! I got a berky a while back that looked like someone used it for a hammer and no tender- I took it to a professional restorer and he brought it back to life and it's a dream, Just think of all those brass engines rotting away in boxes for 25 to 35 years, boy, thats a great investment eh? piles of non-operating locos which will cost a bundle to make roadworthy. By the way, the tune-up and re-soldering only cost me $35.00--- I think the guy did it as a labour of love, this guy really knew what he was doing. Remember, this loco is classified as a "classic"

Tatans,

If I am not mistaken the old Berky I have was manufactured by Mantua.

$35.00 is a great deal for a tune-up job, where is this "fix-it-up" guy located? It might be worth it for me to have the work done!

Thanks,

Ryan

Western Maryland's Potomac (4-8-4) and/or their I-2 Decapods; biggest of their kind ever built with as much tractive effort as a Challenger (Both engines would make awesome models with DCC and sound!).

Ryan: My berk is an old United brass engine which needed a ton of work, these locos are running @ $500 to $700 if they are available( I paid $40 at an auction-as it was in bad shape) as I said I'm sure a major reno would have cost me a pile if the guy had not taken pity on me AND the engine,Oh, he's located in Calgary, Alberta, that's in that really big country to the (frozen) north of you. I'm sure there must be someone closer to you BUT --get an estimate!!!

Vertical boiler Shay. Just wish someone made one that you didn't have to mortgage the house, car, wife and kids, to pay for it.

The Missabe Road M-4 2-8-8-4's were also equipped with roller bearings. And you're from Minnesota, too--shame on you! Seriously, those 2-6-6-4's were something else, weren't they?
