John-NYBW Last Tuesday I stopped in my LHS intending to buy a Rapido NYC RDC that I had been considering. I discovered it had been sold. They still had a B&O RDC but that didn't work for me. I had just sold two Athearn B&O RDCs that I had bought at a flea market years ago and never put into service.

ATLANTIC CENTRAL PRR8259 My recent HO purchases include three Broadway Limited Imports ATSF E1a diesels and one Broadway Limited Imports ATSF E6a, along with a dozen Rapido ATSF mechanical reefers. As a result, I will be selling off some other locos that I no longer need, actually all my other locos. I don't need a big fleet of anything anymore and have a few other ATSF diesels on pre-order (U28CG's). John Really?

Really?
Yes. I sold off almost all my freight locos and cars (there were 3 freight cars left) and bought some passenger equipment. I have most of an El Capitan hi-level era consist, with the people and the lights, and the end coach with correct illuminated drumhead (used from The Hobby Gallery).
The Rapido reefers were pre-ordered quite some time ago.
At this point I just really want to run early E units, and it is my railroad, should I want to pull reefers with E units. (DID find a color photo of brand new mechanical reefers coupled to a stainless steel ATSF passenger car, presumably on the end of a passenger train, but I don't plan on doing that.) Since Santa Fe factually did pull reefer blocks with Alco PA's I'm not stretching history very far.
There's a bunch of stuff out on consignment, soon to be more as I'm about to ship some out to an internet consignment seller. Am trying to downsize roster now before move to next (smaller) house.

I located my helix and the bottom of this scale drawing:
Today I was laying in this crossover and inside track to a coal mine.
I'm working on the rest of the layout right now.

Tried to respond to TF's post, but the forum is glitching.
I have only ever bought two big steam locomotives. I got an non-refusable good deal on my Bachmann 2-8-8-4, and an equally good deal on the BLI 2-6-6-4.
I guess I really need to think about it before I buy a big steamer.

ATSFGuy I recently purchased two cars, a 1995 Hotwheels Treasure Hunt Gold Passion (51 Mercury) and a 2000 Hotwheels Blue/White Ford F150 Pickup (Editors Choice). Currently working on a Santa Fe Business Train and Amtrak Southwest Chief. Both are 1990's.

Sure wish all my Hotwheels were still around Guy. Some of the ones in my collection would be worth a bunch of money now. The most valuable Hotwheels from my understanding, is the hot pink VW surfboard microbus.
Little boys typically don't like the color pink. They also were unbalanced and fell off the track too easily. For those reasons, they were never released. But a few found their way out of the factory. There are only two known to be in existence, one valued at $150,000 US.

Hope you find the Santa Fe and Amtrak you're looking for.

I looked around and discovered a Bachmann NYC Consolidation with DCC and Sound for about the same money. I already have three of these, two lettered for my home road and another for the Pennsy so I know this is a quality loco. My fictional road is jointly owned by the NYC and Pennsy and gets hand-me-down steamers from both as the end of the transition era nears. This loco will fit in with an number of other NYC steamers, mostly Hudsons.
Track fiddler There was some history, including some paint information about the D&RGW on the back of the MTL model. Thanks for sharing. TF

Your welcome. Thanks for the Rio Grande gold/silver paint info. I think I remember seeing that paint scheme also on passenger equipment.
I'd love to show pictures. but I updated my photobucket account and have yet to turn photo sharing back on. That nasty thing called work keeps getting in the way.
I'll keep you guys posted.
Track fiddler Good morning doctorwayne It just so happened that the locomotive, (shown below) happened to follow me home from Florida...sorta...kinda... because somebody had apparently removed all of the DCC stuff from its' interior, leaving it as a simple DC loco - perfect for my DC layout...(and for my somewhat limited budget). All I need to do is remove the lettering and replace it with TORONTO HAMILTON & BUFFALO RWY. and the number 501 (or 502) The TH&B (of my hometown in Hamilton, Ontario), bought two of the real ones from the New York Central, and as a kid, they were my favourites (along with the only two Berkshires owned by a Canadian road), as we lived right across the street from where those trains ran. That is one handsome locomotive Wayne. Have a couple Northerns and a couple Prairies but as of yet, have not found a good Hudson in either Great Northern or Northern Pacific. Born shortly after the transitional era ended, never had the opportunity to live amongst live steam. Must have been really something to experience that. Certainly do remember the Burlington Northern, Green Machines only a few blocks from our house, storming the tracks after Great Northern merged with Burlington. Seeing some of the old Great Northern diesels and rolling stock was quite a treat as well. That's really cool that you're going to model the TH&B you remember from your hometown of Hamilton, Ontario when you were a Kid. This is my favorite steam locomotive gifted to me by my little Brother. It's one of those hybrids that makes sound in either DC or DCC mode. I've been told they run a lot smoother at creeping variables of momentum if you disconnect the sound on these Athearns. Unfortunately, not my area of expertise doing that kind of stuff. Hoping you'll do a follow-up posting, after you get your locomotive numbered and lettered. I'd certainly like to see that fine work of yours when ya finish it. TF

MidlandMike I saw this AtlasO scale Lehigh & New England coverd hopper about 20 years ago, and regretted not buying it then, so I didn't let it get away this time. Complete with fried egg herald. Then this past weekend I was at a train show. I try to limit my O scale to northeastern roads as above, and my On30 to Colorado roads, but couldn't resist this. The seller told me that InterMountain only painted and lettered the item, but that someone else built the model. No mold markings. I wondered if the Rio Grande actually had this paint scheme, or if it is fanciful.

Well, I'm sure you know Russell better than me Rich. Perhaps it was misunderstood. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and retract my reply then.
Hope we're all good here.
TF, I am pretty sure that you got this one wrong. csxns can speak for himself, but his membership on this forum predates most of us, and he has always been civil and gentlemenly. I have little doubt that his remark was made tongue in cheek. He did go on to reply to your question, the subject of your thread.

Share the same opinion as many. Scale Trains is one of the most highly detailed, quality models available.
Missed out on a run that I've been wanting for years ever since. Got a UP Turbine coming. It'll be the only UP in my fleet, but that thing's almost too cool.

nealknows I went to a train show a couple weeks ago and I saw a Scaletrains ES44 in Citirail DCC/Sound. As I got closer to it, a crazy thing happened. It called out my name shouting "Neal! Neal!" I had no choice but to buy it...

Well it didn't call out my name, but it did send me an e-mail (via eBay, on an item I looked at previously but hesitated on). Hi chipset
Looks like you just got your backdrop from Trackside Flats. That's encouraging they're still in business after all.
Sounds fun, your passenger cars will look cool at night after you get those light kits installed.
NorthBrit TF. Consett Iron Co wagons all numbered 1441, even the British Steel Consett Iron Co one behind the locomotive. Further more I have a red one exactly like the green ones numbered 1441? Seem to remember the way it was over here in the 70's, was cars and loco's only had one number as well. Ive heard it was a marketing strategy when there became more of a prototypical demand in the hobby to change that. They started doing runs of cars with more than one number after finding out they could sell more that way.
What does one do with these? Got the deal of the century on a dozen Thunder Bay ore cars for $3 a piece that usually need MTL truck replacements anyways.
Don't know? They say we are supposed to just have fun and not sweat the small stuff. But again, when the numbers are that big....
Thinking about finding some rectangular patch decals to go over the numbers if there is such a thing. Have some paint that matches these cars perfectly so maybe just regular decals will work.

Obviously I didn't have my spectacles on this morning. Hope I didn't make a spectacle of myself
Track fiddler Was telling David about the box cars that have two big of numbers to duplicate. Next to the ones Kevin gifted me, these are of my favorite reefers. Don't have any dairy industry on the layout but just love these cars cosmetically, so they'll just be passing through. These cars are getting harder to find and just got another one a few weeks ago. Oops, just discovered #52 was duplicated when taking a picture of these to post this morning... Thanks for the shares TF

Hi NorthsideChicago
Those cars from discription sound like the cats meow. I'll take it you got two, three packs. You certainly spent some Jing finding those, but from reading the points of interior detail, illumination, and 21 point DCC plug option, certainly seems to be worth paying the price.
Looks like you'll have a little anticipation yourself, with a half year wait. Certainly will be an exciting surprise when those show up at the door though.
Hi Pauley
Looks like you have a comfortable room to go to with that nice Santa Fe war bonnet collection. Neat cookie jar and would have definitely bought that too. The cookies must taste better out of that jar for sure. You know what they say about presentation
Must have took my hobby quite seriously. There's a railroad file cabinet with Train photos like some of yours in different Roads. Wish there was more space for a layout room. It was always my thoughts to arrange those photos in a collage format and do a couple nice matting frame jobs. Have to wait till we move.
