Hello folks,

Once again it it time to move the Diner. Thank you everyone who contributed pictures and videos of trains in winter for the December Diner, but personally I am done with snow! I'm not happy that we have another 3-4 months of winter weather to goGrumpy.

It was suggested a couple of months ago that we resume our tour of European railroads. Does that interest anyone?

As an alternative, we could spend the month looking at unusual railways like, for example, the tiny trains that were used on Hawaiian pineapple plantations or small industrial locos (although they might have some trouble pulling the Diner!). Any other suggestions are most welcome.

I will be happy to move the Diner on New Years Eve unless someone else would like to give it a shot. Heck, it's New Years Eve. You could have a couple of shots before giving it a shot!Smile, Wink & GrinDrinksBeer

Let's hear your thoughts!

Cheers!!

Dave

Good morning Dave.

Last month it was a toss-up between European Trains or Snow Trains.  Seem to have found British train history just as interesting as ours, but Hawaiian Trains sound interesting as well.

I'm easy, whatever is decided amongst you all works for me.

Gidday Chloe, a banana smoothie, please. I was supposed to got to work today but the client got waylaid, as they say “Time to spare? Go by Air!!!” Deadheaded the big rose bush and did some further tying up of the tomato and cucumber plants, instead.

Heat wave here, +14F right now.

It is beautiful outside now. We are supposed to be back into the 80s tomorrow, then normal weather for the next couple of weeks.

Good Evening,

Heat wave here, +14F right now.

Well the washing machine pump arrived today and it is installed. Success! Machine works again. Wife not happy as the pump sounds different, makes a pulsing sound she finds annoying. I used a penetrating oil that left a slight odour, again not happy. I give up. My next project is the dishwasher. I watched several videos and hopefully it is just some debris.

Think I may get the 5 axle C Liner out. I really like the look of that engine

Time for some supper.

Gidday Chloe, could I please have a serving of “traditional” Currywurst. please.

Thanks for sharing that interesting Schwebebahn video, Ed. I made two wrong assumptions, one being that it’s a lot older than I thought, and instead of now being a tourist attraction, a daily 82000 punters through the turnstiles, puts paid to that notion! Not sure I’d be keen on a glass floor, viewing portholes at a pinch, perhaps??!!

Howdy

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone,  they all put a smile on my face.

Had a fun day.  My buddy Mark took us to breakfast to meet our friends at the VFW this morning.  Judy brought me to lunch at Clive's Roadhouse this afternoon.  Just got back from dinner with my daughters and I'm really full.  Had a great day.

ThanksSmile, Wink & Grin

This thing looks like fun!

I like the vintage machine at 3:20. I wonder if they could make one with a glass floor?

Good Morning,

Happy Birthday TF! I thibk I can remember turning 59 but it was 16 years ago. Speaking of birthdays and being 75, Burton Cummings is in town this week to do 2 shows celebrating his 75th. Winnipeg  is his hometown and he comes fairly often. He did have a house here but sold it maybe 10 years ago.

Glad to hear of the nice Christmas many had, Mine turned out ok after a very rocky Christmas eve. My wife made a great dinner last night. She is a wonderful cook and can turn out gourmet level meals. She trained with a chef here who came from France and ran a Michelin star restaurant there. I will be enjoying a Fortnum and Mason Christmas pudding tonight, one of the gifts I recieved.

Warming up here so may be able to replace a burned out headlight bulb by Wed. Not a hard job, no tools required but it is fiddly .

Have a nice Boxing Day,

CN Charlie

Gidday Chloe, I just have a large glass of iced lemonade, please. Its now 2236 on a balmy 63°F  Boxing Day evening and we safely travelled back home from spending a very pleasant Christmas Day with our son, his girlfriend, her mother and partner, and my brother-in-law. I have discovered that I am quite partial to Expresso Martinis and Fijian made Ratu Rum Liqueur, Very Smooth!! The Kids bought me a bottle!!! Just hope it doesn’t evaporate too quickly.

Her-in- Doors bought me two NZR books, so I’ve got a bit of reading to do and they both look like useful references as well.

At the risk of offending some people, I'm posting this video of snow plows at work trying to clear heavy snow from roads in the winter of 1939-1940 (not railroads). Their progress is agonizingly slow! Apparently these trucks only had about 150 horsepower so the only way they could move heavy snow was to just ram into it:

Merry Christmas everyone!  We had the big dinner last night.  The GF's sister was the determining factor, as that's when she showed up.  The GF made a fine prime rib dinner for the three of us.
