The flight crew were able to make a dead stick landing from 41,000 ft. at a retired air force base in Gimli, Manitoba.

What a lucky break that Captain Pearson was an experienced glider pilot!

I wonder just how far a dead 737 MAX could glide? Those wings sure look tiny on that thing.

Hey! Look at that, top-o-the-page... What should our in-flight meal be?

Well — WINGS of course!

The investigation uncovered a series of combined blunders and equipment failures that resulted in the plane only receiving half of its proper fuel load. People were quick to blame the recent conversion from imperial measurement to metric, and while that did play a part, faulty fuel level indicators and errors by mechanics were the real culprits.

It’s been a while since I read that accident investigation report, but there was a series of “events” that all factored in to cause the accident.  Professor James Reasons “Swiss Cheese Model”, used correctly, offers a good explanation of how system failure occurrences can happen. It’s just that the outcome was a lot more fortunate, than other similar situations.

Problems with Ads??!! Adblocker Plus works well for me, and it’s free,

I use AdBlock Plus too and I never get pop up adds on my desktop or my phone.

Give it a try!

Dave

EeeeYep!!!!!!! I will no longer watch the videos on several online news channels as they have figured out how to embed them to play before the actual news story.  I also have a personal pledge to NEVER buy any of those products that manage to find ways around the blockers!

I stopped watching TV over a decade ago when Mash reruns which were originally a half hour show became an hour show and usually left out a scene or two so they could put the **** ads in your face!

OK, I'll shut up before I get banned here.  Yes I do understand they need to use ads to pay for the site. But, there is no reason to make them "In Your Face" like they do.  I really don't think that results in more sales for companies....  Just my My 2 Cents

Good Morning,

Dave, we were in Gimli when that plane landed. We were on our sailboat in the harbour . We were unaware until later as we didn't see it go over.

We went to a Parrot Head Club party yesterday.  It was outdoors in a pavilion on a beautiful day.  They had a live band.  Live music is starting to come back here.

I actually requested a song, "Toes" by the Zach Brown band.  They'd never done it, but it sure sounded great and everyone, even me, got up to dance.  I was talking to them later, and they said they were putting it into their regular song list because it went so well.

I'm glad I moved to Delaware, for the live music if nothing else.  Where I used to live in Massachusetts, the music clubs I used to go to are now just coffee shops or bars, but no music.  According to the singer yesterday, a lot of music places went out of business or now just pipe in commercial music, nothing live.

Good afternoon Fall BucksWink

Yesterday was Pete's birthday party out in Prior Lake that was a Hoot!  Our friend Pete turned the big 60 yesterday.

"Oh for Pete's Sake!" Pirate

Later that evening was the lantern lightning at the cemetery.

We go to the lantern lighting every year for Judy's sister Kelly that died from the covid.

This year was a drawing of a Steamer for my Dad from me.

It looks like a little kid drew it and probably the little kid in me where we left off did.

I asked the nice lady that was handing out the colored pencils and markers if she would take a picture late at night and text it to me.

And she did! Smile

My dad only had one layout he showed me when I was quite young but he had a room filled with display cases full of HO Steamers that he showed me the day before he died.

On a more Happier Note,  It is estimated that the mining town of Oatman, Arizona turned into a ghost town shortly after 1906 after the gold mines dried up.

Many years later the town repopulated only as a lock and key Day Town for tourists.

All the donkeys were set free from the mine and the descendants from the descendants come down from the foothills and roam the town in search of food during the day.

Here's Miss Judy!

Of course she would be taking a drag off her cigarette during the picture, but the donkey was asking her,  "What's in the bag lady?" Laugh

We had lunch in a little cafe in the town that day.  All the doors are wide open in that town.  This young donkey strolled into the cafe and our waitress stomped her foot and said "You know better than this, GET OUT OF HERE".  And he didLaugh...QuicklyLaugh

Our waitress was very nice but a rather weathered woman!  If she had told me to do something, I would have done it in a split second without reservationLaugh

The Donkeys are all from yesteryear but like a bunch of little tamed puppy dogs and you got to go thereYes

Go ahead and sleep in at your hotel.  They don't come out until about 10:30Indifferent

I never did put any signage on it???  Maybe I've been waiting for Kevin to send me (SeeYou190 Grain Pool and Associate), so I can finish it.  I would certainly post a picture of that For real Kevin.  Just come up with some of your Fine Artistic Craftsmanship and lick a stamp so I can post it.

My middle daughter is the person who makes all the custom signs for me.

Sorry, no "Fine Artistic Craftsmanship" in the sign-making department here.

Laugh

It could be I was a little bored this afternoon into the evening.

But that doesn't excuse the fact that I dug up some really good old bones hereWhistling...Laugh

Seems to meHuh?

I always did like this one you designed for me KevinStick out tongue

Good afternoon from the stunning West Coast. I spent all afternoon lying in the Sun drinking beer as I am just out of gas.

I have not been around much but have been keeping up with the diner's goings on a couple of times a day. An old guy has to sit down for a break too often these days.

It has been an interesting summer. If you remember the kids GF totaled the car we gave him for graduation way back when.

He had been without a car for over three months as he has been too busy to go buy another and did not really need one. He finally decided he better get one as he was going to need it. He called me up to go with him to buy his special order BMW right from the factory in Germany. Let's just say the sales guy was less than honest with him on the phone and the delivery time went from six months to three years once he had us in the dealership. We left and won't be going back to that dealership.

The kid decided he better get something for the short term and were walking around the auto mall and we spotted this. Took it for a test drive and he bought it.Laugh It was a work day for him and he was glad to get the car thing behind him.

The next day he calls me up at the crack of dawn and says, I need a Dad day. I drive into Vancouver and away we go, I drive the entire day. I still have connections at the high-performance driving centre where the Feds sent me numerous times to learn a thing or two. We spent an hour or so on the track and then headed for Whistler for a late lunch. We were gone 14 hours and burned through two tanks of gas.Laugh

It goes pretty good, 0-100kmh in 5.5seconds. It is sluggish in the handling department compared to some of the cars I have driven over the years, but not too bad. We had a great day. Here is me on the way to Whistler.

I enjoy hearing about Mike's kid's soccer, the kid and I spent weekends and a couple of weeknights at hockey together, I really miss those times. I am glad I am still the guy he calls to spend time with.

My best friend has about half a dozen V-8 Vegas he drag races. Always under the hood trying to peel off another fraction of a second.Laugh Me, I try to tune up me. I have a bet going on as to whether I can reach a certain level of fitness and I am almost there. It cost me nothing if I don't achieve my goal, but get rewarded big time if I do. I had a full workup and test done by the pros this week. They took a ton of blood and put me through the wringer. My Garmin shows a fitness age of 43, however, their calculations show me at a fitness age of 38.7. I am a happy camper. Not bad for a guy closing in on 66.

TF, love the donkeys. I immediately thought of you when the kid bought the Mustang. Not a classic but fun non the less.

Early grain loading.

All the best to all.

Good evening

It's good to hear from you Brent.  Ever since I've heard from you the first time over 5 years ago, Judy and I have been making preliminary plans to visit Vancouver.  We will vacation on the west coast of Canada amongst the palm trees on the beach.

We have our new passport driver's licenses now.  Besides that, we have family all along the way before we cross over.

BATMAN

The next day he calls me up at the crack of dawn

It took me a little bit but that sounds normal Brent.  In my family, my daughter's call me up at the crack of noonLaugh

Neither one of them have a lazy bone in their body but they prefer to work night jobs for some reason.  Last time I checked, I'm not a vampire but I'm starting to wonder if my ex-wife wasLaugh

You've always came across as a great Dad who has a wonderful family as I can tell by reading your words all these years.

I didn't go on my yearly Canadian fishing trip since the covid crap.  Judy says I've been behaving differently since I haven't done any serious fishing.

She could be right.  I've noticed I need to shave in the evening as the five-o-clock shadow is getting way out of control at about 3:30 nowPirate...Laugh...Wink

Good morning

I've had a rather large sum of money billed out on an invoice since July 25th and sent another one since.  I still haven't been paid.

I don't think I'm gonna!  It's been roughly 25 years since the last time this has happened.

Another dishonest person I stumbled upon I guess.  I hate it when that happens! Tongue Tied...Sad

I bought some toner from a company we seldom use, they put the invoice in the package. We do pay on invoice, but when this package arrived I just tossed it up on the shelf with other boxes of toner and did not look at it. Eventually we would need this toner for the one machine that used it.

They called us, but the business manager had no clue, even though I did submit the purchase order.

Once we figured out what the invoice was for, I pulled down the box, and there was the invoice attached to the box.

Bottom lion is, if you want to be paid on time, put the invoice where I can find it.

Good morning everyone.

I have had a great few days. Not sure why, but I have felt great for an entire week I think.

Having my wife back at home has been great as well, even though it has not even been two days yet. I really missed her this time.

My lawn service just got done mowing my yard. It looks great. Those guys do the part of home-ownership that I hate.

We only have a few weeks left of the rainy season, so I really need to get my irrigation system for the lawn in place.

I have been watching Queen Elizabeth's funeral and procession. It has made me feel a bit melancholy. I have to admit that I am a monarchist despite the negatives that the British Monarchy has been responsible for in the past. I won't say any more because I don't wish to offend the moderators.

Good morning.  Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, and coffee, please.

I have a busy day ahead, so after my morning walk, I immediately mowed the lawn and got that out of the way.Smile

The out-of-town company has left, so today is cleaning the guest bedrooms.  Then a doctor's appt., a trip to the store and pharmacy, and other chores.  I should be able to relax tonight about 9:00 p.m.

I don't like days like this.

My wife is watching all the royal funeral stuff.  She loves all this, and I'm really not that interested.  She loves English royal history.

I hope everyone has a great day.
