Decal Question
Posted by B Rutherford on Sunday, August 7, 2022 9:13 PM

I am getting ready to decal my first boxcar kit.  I have painted the boxcar and applied a gloss topcoat.

This particular car has fixed sliding style doors with decals the go right up and over the door.  Should I cut the decal into three pieces for the left, right and over the door or place the decal in one piece?

Thanks!

I do striped boxcars in multiple pieces. Usually two for each side of the carbody and three for the door.

Three for the door?

B Rutherford
Three for the door?

Yes.

I use two small sections for each side. I find that approach easier to get the decal the settle around all the complex surfaces on the door sides. Then I fill in the center with a long piece.

Got it. Thanks!

I am going to leave the stripes for last.  The last time I worked with decals like these was on model rockets probably 35 years ago...
