Ah Venice, loved it. I was on the ferry in New Zealand going from the North Island to the South Island sitting out on deck just taking it all in. I had been watching this drop-dead gorgeous girl on and off as well. So part way through the crossing she comes and sits down next to me, well we spent the next three weeks traveling together around NZ. We parted ways in Christchurch as we were going in different directions, she had two months left in her trip and I had five weeks. She then came to Vancouver and stayed for three months. Later I flew to Zurich and we took the train to Venice.
I agree the food in Italy is superb, the best steaks, prime rib, and other meat dishes on the planet. I also had pizza. They eat pizza there by folding the whole thing up and picking the whole thing up and eating it that way.
The girl I was traveling with was not well one day and so I went off on my own. After exploring for a few hours I found myself sitting at an outside cafe on the edge of a canal drinking wine all afternoon and watching the daily lives of the people go on. Seeing boat ambulances, fire rigs and police going by on the canals was quite fascinating to watch as was the mailman in his boat.
In Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, they show a building that was supposed to be the library where X marks the spot. I took a photo of this building before the movie was made and when I saw it in the movie I remember thinking I'd been in there! I went home checked the photo and sure enough, except it was a church, not a library and I have photos of the inside as well. I just had to go inside as it was such a beautiful building.
The wife said this morning I'll be right back and left, she came back and got busy in the kitchen, she had gone and bought lobster tails and made a lobster bisque. It was sooooo good even at 11:00 in the morning. She does things like that, we each had a big bowl and she said enjoy it, that's a $20.00 bowl of soup.
Well, I wasn't going to blow up the pool this year and was going to get rid of it. However, Meryl insisted, so after patching two more holes I put the hoses in and hoped for the best, so far so good. I hear we're having a heat wave this weekend of 30 plus, what timing, after three days, 60,000 Ltrs of BCs finest is in place. I will move the big screen out so I can watch the playoffs while floating on my two-beer holder floaty thing. The patch kit is handy.
My brain is strained (not hard to do) trying to figure out why I can not program my latest Rapido Loksound V5, but I think it may just be my old NCE system needs a little help.
Lots to do today so I better get off my butt.
All the best to all.

Good evening Diners.
John and CNCharlie. Thanks for your concern. Living with the pain most of my life hasn't been too bad. Just now things are getting annoying. Fortunately my bad days haven't coincided with Dawn's bad days, so we get by.
Italy.
Venice. A little off the tourist track was very interesting. Visited the Dolomites. Amazing. Lido di Jesolo was great fun. Sailing in and out was fantastic. We want to go again.
Naples. We were told 'See Naples and die'. The traffic I am not surprised. That apart, Naples is one of Dawn's favourite cities in Italy.
Rome. Well Rome has to be visited (like New York is to America).
Vatican City. When in Rome the Vatican is a must.
Pisa. Memorable. A must see. I wish we had time to see Florence on that trip.
Messina (Sicily) A beautiful city. A city both Dawn and I adore.

CNCharlie John, just checked and the hotel we stayed in Venice is still going. It is the Seguso. It looks the same outside as it did in '88. It is in a great location and we found Venice most magical at night as most tourists stay on the mainland. Hard to believe it is 34 years since we were there.

I went to Venice on my honeymoon and then again many years later. The second trip was with the ex-wife and our college age daughter. She was spending a term in Florence, another lovely Italian city, and to get to Venice we rode through the countryside on a great Italian train. We rode first class, because the train was otherwise sold out, and first class was only a few dollars more.
Splurge and take the family on a gondola ride. It's touristy and overpriced, but there's nothing quite like it in the world.
My first time there, we dined outdoors on the Grand Canal, the Rialto, in the shadows of that famous arched footbridge. Our waiter spoke fluent English. Then I noticed that the same waiter was also just as fluent in German, French and of course Italian. The diners at the next table spoke Japanese. He didn't miss a beat with that, either.
When I got home from the Florence trip, I finally put myself on a diet.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Good afternoon
Not at all Dave! Perhaps I forgot my manners. You are appreciated as the Host with the Most of our Diner every month after month around here. Especially the fine pictures and videos you add frequently keeping the theme on track as you always do and enjoyed by me.
I would put you right up there comparable to our Ol' German friend Ulrich back when he did such a good job hosting the diner consecutively like you do now

SeeYou190They are up. Can't say for sure on any specific paint because I bought all the paint I need a year ago. However, Kilz-2 primer is now over $100.00 for a five gallon pail. That is a substantial increase over a year ago. -Kevin
I was surprised at the prices in a Menards ad I received. Even with their 11% discount, the prices were twice as high as some things I bought just two years ago. Not good.

Good morning, diners. Bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.
We are cooler today! The days of over 100° are over for a while.
Dave, that's too bad about the car. It might help to know you will be giving a body & fender man some extra vacation money!
David, I hope you get some relief from the pain.
Charlie and Mike, thanks for the Italy comments. My daughters plan these trips and make all lodging and sight-seeing arrangements. Their husbands, kids, and I just go along for the ride. The trip later this year to Jordan and Israel will be different because only the daughters and I are going. The rest of the families are all staying home.
Should be fun and I'm looking forward to the trip. I'm not looking forward to the 13 hour plane flight. This trip has been postponed three times due to war and covid. Hopefully this time we will make it.
How about a nice cold scene on these hot summer days? I don't think Mad King Ludwig had tourists in mind.
Tin Can IIKevin, are you seeing paint prices skyrocket?

Living the dream.
Kevin, are you seeing paint prices skyrocket? Our neighbor called my wife this morning, the interior paint she wants from the local Sherwin Williams is $106 a gallon. We still have a couple of rooms left to repaint in the basement (including the train room).
A bigger concern for me is finding birch plywood in SW Kansas. I am looking for 3/4 thick to make the end plates for HO Freemo modules; may have to pick up a sheet on our next trip to Texas.
Chloe, I am going to start this day with two bananas and a cup of black coffee.
I slept great again last night, and I am up early. Feeling great and life is good.
I am going to get some paint on some doors before I go to work. Today is my "Friday", so I am getting a couple days off. Homefully I can use those two days to finish the trim and get some paint on the walls.
Good afternoon Diners. A large coffee and a blueberry muffin please, Flo.
Dave. The pictures and videos are great. Thanks for posting.
Dawn has booked me some treatment with her therapist to help (hopefully) to relieve the aches and pains. They are causing my attention timespan to be rather short. Struggling to be in the train room any length of time.
Try and be back later.

I hope that you are not getting tired of the pictures and videos that I am posting of Newfoundland. If so, feel free to skip this next one.
For generations the Newfoundland economy was based on the cod fishery. This video will give you a bit of an idea about exactly how hard that work was. Click on 'Watch on YouTube' on the lower left:

I had a very hectic day, and now I am going to turn in for the evening.
Be back tomorrow, everyone please take care.
I did a number on our newly repainted Honda Odyssey yesterday. I was coming out of a parking garage with a very tight twisty exit and I managed to find a concrete post with the right rear fender.

I forgot to follow up with the pictures from Uncle Butchie on 261.
The only difference looking at the nose is the reflection off that beautiful Beast.

York1Our family is headed to Italy next spring, but from the descriptions of Italian pizza, I will probably find other things to eat. I love thick pizzas with virtually anything and everything (nothing sweet) on them.

maxman York1 They have told me that I can just find a sidewalk cafe and camp out there if I get too tired. I recommend you don't do that. Went on a trip once with my parents and they left me to sit on a bench while they went to get a snack. Still waiting for them to come back.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. They'll come home and say to each other, "I thought he was with you."

Lion got a new computer chair. I put it together this morning. I think that it will be very kind to my back. I just spent two and a half hours riding the LIRR to Speonk and back with "The King of Queens" at the throttle!

CNCharlieJohn, I found the food in Italy great but I have only been there once to see Florence and Venice. I especially liked Venice. We stayed at a small hotel right on a canal. We arrived by water taxi from the train station.
Charlie, I am really looking forward to it. The only drawback is that my daughters plan these trips, with lots to do and see. They will travel and walk to see anything and everything. I'm a little worried about keeping up. They have told me that I can just find a sidewalk cafe and camp out there if I get too tired.
Your trip sounds like you had a great time.
In Winnipeg there is a large Italian community that dates from the late '50s. The only pizza available in the 60s had a thin crust which is what I still prefer.

A cool damp day here.
My favorite pasta sauce is clam sauce.
I have not made that in a few years. I should make up for that.
