Drinks Are On Me!

-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -

Since we are in Canada this month, how about something Canadian?

-Photograph by Kevin Parson

-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -

The storm is moving through, and thankfully it has weakened significantly in the past couple of hours.

We are still getting light/medium rainfall, but there are no winds at all. There is also no more red in the rainfall map.

Maybe we are going to get lucky and dodge another bullet.

There is no longer any identifiable center of rotation. Hopefully it breaks up fully as it goes across land before entering the Atlantic.

Hi Kevin,

I'm glad to hear that the storm near you is dissipating. Going through really bad weather is not a fun experience. Ontario just experienced one of the worst storms in its history a week ago. We are still cleaning up.

I have mixed feelings about your choice of beer for the top of the page. Molson's Canadian is not one of our best products IMHO. It's okay when it is really cold, but the last 1/3rd of the bottle tastes like horse urine as far as I'm concerned. Same with Labatt's Blue. I have been known to decline either brand even when there was nothing else available. Now if you are offering Alexander Keith's or Moosehead, I could drink those all day (and I have been known to!). I must be a beer snob!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughBeer

Each to his own. Nothing personal. Nothing serious.

Cheers!!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Addendum to aforementioned Rule:

Double-check your measurements before installing utility poles.

According to NOAA,the storm has not made landfall yet. This disagrees with local reporting. NOAA says to expect winds to increase at 2:00 AM, and the storm to land at 7:00 AM.

For some reason three or four houses in the neighborhood just started sending up fireworks.

That is unusual.

There must be a celebration for something. This was too synchronized to be random.

Yep by Bear, on Flickr
For many years, in the airport expansion plans my hanger was to be knocked down to allow for a larger apron for increased jet traffic.

In the long run the powers that be decided that only my compressor shed 10’ x 5’ x 8’, which they were concerned could be hit by a wing tip, had to be moved, which was done.

However, several days later the contractor who was installing the tall light poles 30-50” high around the new apron, came to start to dig the hole for the foundation closer by 20’ feet to both the apron and taxiway than my former shed! I had a quick word with him about the placement of the pole, which he showed me was on the plans, however when I pointed out the foot print of the removed compressor shed, he decided that the site engineer should be shown this.

Even with the evidence right before his eyes, the young site engineer was adamant that it had to be the right position because the plans “said so”!!

It wasn’t until I had a word with the site foreman that the matter was resolved and the pole relocated right next to the front corner of my hanger.

Sometimes I wonder!!Hmm
Cheers, the Bear.Smile

We had some fireworks this (Friday) evening also.  An ethnic holiday perhaps?  Or possibly trying out last year’s fireworks in preparation for the 4th.

It has been raining here all day. The moment the rain stopped, the fireworks went up. They were waiting for a break. It has to be important for some reason.

It is 4:00 AM, no wind and only a light rain. I took my trash cans down to the roadside for pick up tomorrow.

I will find out in the morning if that was a good idea.

It looks like everything has passed on the radar.

Good morning Diners.   A large Amaretto  Coffee and Cream please,  Brunhilda.

The third day of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.  Beacons lit around the country. The grandchildren will be on Bouncy Castles etc..   Tea and cakes etc. for us a bit older.  Dawn and I will celebrate from the comfort of home.   No fireworks though.

A number of people are having challenges with health issues.   A speedy recovery to all.   Stay safe.

Good morning.  Bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.

Maybe the neighbors are some of the Queen's subjects, shooting fireworks to celebrate.

As far as rain, our radar shows we are having rain, while the driveway and ground outside are completely dry.

Another busy day scheduled, and continuing through the next week.  I thought retirement was supposed to be leisurely.

Hope everyone has a great day today.

Good morning everyone. I ordered a bowl of shredded wheat and a cup of black coffee to start the day.

The storm went by with nothing to report. My little weather station only recorded a 20 MPH wind gust. No where near what was predicted. None of the trash was blown around on the street. No tree branches are down. Almost all the water has drained away.

My weather station did record 6.5" of rainfall in the last 24 hours. That was a soaking. For a while yesterday the whole street was submerged.

On towards the day...

It's the last day of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.

The grandchildren have all gone home.  They are back at school tomorrow.

Dawn and i are taking the day at an easy pace.   An afternoon in the train rioom is calling.  Big Smile

I trust your surgery went well and you're on the mend Rick.  Hoping you have a speedy recovery with thoughts and best wishes.  Were all pulling for ya.

It was good to see you in your photo David, ya handsome Ol' Devil youSmile  Glad you had a nice visit with the Grandchildren.  It's always good to see them and we're due for a visit ourselves.

It was nice to hear you discovered that you really love scratch building John.  My favorite part of Model Railroading as well.

Good to hear you didn't get the blunt of the storm Kevin.  Judy was offered a free round trip all exclusive hotel vacation to Orlando.  Why the Hilton is offering her this Employee Appreciation during hurricane season we have no idea?  We thaught she was valued as a good employee more than thatLaugh  She's checking into an alternate time arrangement.

We are a big fan of apple cider over here Bear.  We have an apple orchard we go to every fall to get a fresh Honeycrisp batch.  It has a label stating non-pasteurized as recommended by the FDA or something like that.  It's the good stuffYes

The snow plow project sounds like it's coming along great DaveBow  I hope you will take this in a humorous way as I'd often hear my brother-in-law the mechanic say....."Sometimes You Just Need a Little More Lube" Laugh...Wink

The puppies sure are getting cute Brent.  You two have been in our thoughts and we hope your wife is feeling better.

Happy Birthday MetrorailFan.  It's my oldest daughter's birthday as well, she is 31 today.

Have a great day gentlemenWink

Good morning, everyone.  Just black coffee today, Brunhilda.  It's donut day.

Another busy day ahead.  I want to finish a siding on the layout, but I'm not having much time to work lately.  This coming week the layout will not get any time.

I'll check in later.  We're headed out the door.

Yes, I have tried that. On my layout there was 18" between the second and third layer but only 12" between the first and second level. I carefully built the staging yards on the first level before I built the second level. The first and second levels were 18" deep but while the third level was only 12" deep is was also set 5" closer to the wall.

All was well until I desided to morph into a subway layout and had to pull out the firswt level staging wayrds and build a fourt track main line subway in its place.

So... Go figgr.

Good morning everyone. Chloe, I will have a cheese omelet and a black coffee to start the day.

Good to hear from you again TF. I noticed your absence especially over on the train song thread.

I noticed two spots on the living room walls where I did not do a good-enough job layering the mud over the butt joints where patches went in. I am not going to fix it, but it is really aggravating. They are both up high near the ceiling.

Kevin, you will probably be the only one to notice those spots. Tends to be that way with one's own work. I had a spot in a room in my old house that bugged me. I even pointed it out to my father in law who still couldn't see it.

Later guys.

Hello —

Track fiddler
Loved the interior pictures of the roundhouse and diesel shop you posted in the Show Me Something thread EdBow

Thank you, TF! Nice of you to say Cool

I'm up to the usual yard work, filling divots in the lawn, gathering brush and I still have a few trees to clear out. Rain is forecast for the next few days so I'm thinking of spanding more time with TRAINS.

Hope we hear from Rick soon. Best wishes to all for your well being.

Those butts are the toughest part about mudding.  We are all the most critical about our own work.  Half the time ya paint the walls with Flat and you won't even notice.  I'm sure you did a great job, especially after seeing all your other workYes
