The deal this morning was instead of just sitting in the parked lot, was to help with the grocery shop and a room would be purchased for the night.
Sounded good to me.
Staycation half a mile from home.
Got a little kitchen too.

Time to call it an evening.
I will be back tomorrow for more.
Thank you for the congratulatory wishes for my granddaughter's graduation, everyone
Haven't seen any presence of our favorite moderator Tom Stage in almost a month. Hope he's doing OK.
Did you know the Pennsylvania Railroad built their locomotives from great big Bowser kits?

I can recognize just about every piece there. Gimme a helper, a big alignment drift and some big wrenches and I'll be ready to fire up in about a week!
I just caught the tail-end of the "old way" of factories doing everything "in-house" as the PRR did in the photo above.
Our GE plant had a pattern maker, a full machine shop and gangs of laborers, painters, sweepers and chip pullers. That all ended in the early 1980s when the Wall Street forward thinkers got into the game. Why run a dirty, old factory and settle for a 4-5% return on investment when you can take that money and wheel-and-deal in securities, reinsurance and futures, mergers and acquisitions and pull in 15 or 20% or more ?
Well, of course all that blew up in 2001 and again in 2008. GE couldn't get out of the money game fast enough.

Good morning Diners. A full English and a pot of tea please, Zoe.
Some photographs are taken and for some reason there is something about them.
A train arriving at Leamington Spa 2018. Had it been 1908 or earlier, apart from the train would have a steam engine, the scene would be identical. The lamps. The GWR seating etal. Then the sultry looking sky. Magical (to me).

Then we are at Birmingham New Street Station. I was after a picture of the freight train, I did not notice the white 'litter'. I still do not know what it is, but things are not perfect. Just as I like things.

Good morning on Memorial Day in the U.S. My mother called it Decoration Day, and we had to take flowers to the cemetery. I loved watching the veterans fire the 21-gun salute.
Today is a good day to rest and recover. Kids wore me out.
TF, that looks like a nice one night vacation spot. I noticed that someone left you a gift on the kitchen counter -- I hope you enjoyed it.
David, that's a pretty nice photo of you on the balcony of the ship. I wish I could go again. My wife doesn't want to.
Speaking of that, I will be going to Israel and Jordan in a couple of months with my daughters. My wife doesn't want to go, so I will be the lone grandparent on this trip. I'm looking forward to finally seeing one of my bucket list places -- Petra.
Ed, congratulations on the graduation. Looks like you had a good time. Your photo of the locomotive parts reminds me of the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Taking the tour, you start walking past big bins of parts. The workers start putting it all together, and at the end, they put gas in the Corvette, start it, and drive it away. I was totally in awe of the process.
Kevin, I hope the rest of the construction comes out looking as good as the work you've done so far. Thanks for all the great vacation photos.
Dave, thanks for your efforts to keep the diner rolling. I had never heard of Newfie Screech. I will try it in the diner, but I'm not a rum fan.
Brent, hope your wife is doing better, and that all the people can pick up the dogs on time. Your life will calm down quite a bit when the puppies are gone.
Bear, I had never heard about that Tangiwait train disaster. Very interesting story.
Charlie, I hope your wife can get back to the point of living a fairly normal life. It must be terrible to be so afraid of the covid, and I feel sorry she is going through this.
Lion, are you able to get up to the subway room at all? I know you were using a walker, but I hope you can navigate the stairs.
Ray, I don't blame you for how you handled your sister's situation. I hope she can do OK and get back to normal soon.
Henry, hope the shoulder and arm are doing a little better. It sure is taking its time healing.
For everyone not mentioned, I hope you have a great day and your health is OK.
Not a good photo, but I snapped this on the wall of the Grand Canyon Lodge on the north rim:

Good morning
Nice to hear from you guys on the Memorial Day weekend. Yea, those things were all over the place last night at the hotel John but the chicken was excellent. I cheated and put some Kingsford and Mesquite chips in there
Judy kept asking me if I was going to grab my phone to take pictures at the car show Saturday. I told her No, I just want to enjoy this one myself with my own eyes for once.
Didn't stop me from fishtailing the car around to go back and take a picture of that neat Grader on the way home though.
My head a little heavy checking out of the hotel this morning so I think we're going to go do another one of those other expensive lunches again
POST HOG!
One for the Lion.
Good Noon or close to it.
There came a point last night when my Judy got Mean To Me. Probably my fault for feeding her all those cheap Millers
I told her she can make it up to me by taking me out to Clive's Roadhouse for some of that chicken fried chicken
You can never have some too much good chicken you know
York1Thanks for all the great vacation photos.

Time to go to "work" for the day.
Hi Everyone,
Just dropped in to say hello.
Newfoundland sounds fine.
Good to see everyone feeling well,...for the most part.
Really enjoying this month's content from all contributors.

Hello everyone. Happy Memorial Day.
Brent, praying for your wife. I'm sorry to hear she isn't doing better.
Ed, congratulations for your granddaughter! I was doing precisely the same thing with my own daughter. Friday night was graduation, Saturday was the open house, Sunday was recovery , and today catching up on all the housework that didn't get done before the week starts. Good thing it's a holiday weekend.
John (York1) - Please share pics of Petra! I would love to see that myself someday!
Well, the sun is shining, it's a beautiful day, so train room time is not likely, but that's okay. It will be a great afternoon none the less. I've got steaks salting right now destined for the grill this evening.
Have a wonderful rest of your day gents!
Mike

Our Remembrance Decoration day was quite quiet and enjoyable. I hope yours was, too.
gmpullmanOur Remembrance day was quite quiet and enjoyable.
Great pictures Ed. My Memorial Day was a "work" day, but that was pretty easy. I have enjoyed the evening for sure.
I opened a package of terrycloth rags tonight to damp-clean the walls to get all of the residual sanding dust off of them. They seemed a little musty, but I used them anyway.
It was worse than I realized. Now my house has a noticeable musty smell to it. I put the rags in the washer. I hope this smell goes away.
Had to get up and go outside just now to pump some water out of the pond as it was starting to overflow. Yes it us raining hard again and watwr is coming in the window well too. Guess I won't be getting much sleep tonight. The ground is too wet to absorb more water more water. Now the power just went out.
We have had the second wettest spring on record. The wettest since 1897. May rainfall was twice normal.
Power is back, out for only 15 minutes. Wife is mad at me for not buying an emergency light for upstairs, I have one down here in my lair.
Sounds like the Diners south of the border had a good holiday. We do our Remembrance Day here on Nov.11.
Tomorrow, I guess it is that already, we are expecting, rain, what a surprise.
Supose I should have kept the sailboat and just parked it in the driveway. In the 25 years we had it I never did get it to the house. It was on a highway trailer but I never had a vehicle that could pull 7500 lbs. It only went a few hundred feet each year from the crane to the boat yard. We had an old farm tractor to pull boats at the club.
Time to empty pails again,
CN Charlie
CNCharlieWe do our Remembrance Day here on Nov.11.
November 11th is Veteran's Day in the United States.
We have had heavy rain nearly every day for several weeks. This is perfectly normal for my area.
I hope everything is OK for you.
I messed up and intended to have written Decoration Day.
I corrected my post. Sorry for the confusion, 'twas I who was confused...
Good afternoon Diners. A coffee on the go please, Brunhilda.
It has been raining every day for days and days. I hope it stops for the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations on Friday.

Good morning, diners.
A busy day ahead.
I will check back later to see if the waitresses are busy.
Thank you, everyone, for all the neat vacation train photos.
Good afternoon from sunny and hot Northeast Ohio! Just got the phone call, have to be at the hospital by 6:00 am for the open heart surgery. Will not have access to my phone until my wife gets it to me in the ICU or my room the next day. Will keep you all updated when I can.
By the way Brent and David, sorry to hear about you wives. Had to deal with my wife's ovarian tumor removal right at the beginning of the covid pandemic, she was on the operating table for 6 hours with a lot of problems. Hope all gets better.
