Does anyone know what the name of the font is that John Allen used on most of his G&D locomotives, and how I could recreate it? I'm in the process of modeling tribute locomotives of G&D 27 and 49, and I normally print my own decals, but I can't seem to find a font that matches both lettering and the number style. Thanks.

I believe that "Old West" alphabet decals from Microscale will be pretty close to what John Allen used.
However, I would use this set for GORRE AND DAPHETID 40 foot boxcars made by K4 Decals and just make it easy on myself.

FWIW looking at my old decal catalogues, Champ called that style "Billboard" and Walthers called it "Barnum". Both companies had started their decal lines before John Allen started model railroading in the mid-1940s, so my guess would be he used lettering sets from one of them, probably using individual letters and numbers.
