A couple photos showing various stages of completion along one wall of my shortline railroad.
First, going from completed scene to the right to bare resin paper on the left.
I'm using a variation of a technique described by Howard Zane a number or years ago. I shape my mountains using basket weaved cardboard strips, then cover it with red resin paper. Rather than coat the red resin paper with white glue, I mix a slow setting joint compound that gives me plenty of working time. I sprinkle on some ground cover while it is still wet. Eventually puff ball trees will cover the hillside with Super Trees in the front.
The next photo shows a section where benchwork and track have yet to be laid.
I'm building a switchback to a saw mill at the top of the grade. Two legs still need completion before the scenery can be filled in.

This one is up for some truck work. see that tack board on the end? It bugged me that the boards were vertical and not horizontal as I believe the railroad gods demanded. So I pried them off and gave them a 90° turn.

Here are a pair of ice bunker reefers at the A&P warehouse. The A&P reefer gets lots of mileage delivering loads to various towns on the layout. Several years ago I started a thread asking why a canned food company like Van Camp's would need reefers. Some speculated it might be for raw foods delivered to their cannery but somebody checked the reporting marks and indicated such a car never existed.

Here's my concrete coaling tower. The routes east of here are fully dieselized so steam only operates westward. Steamers back out of the turntable to be pointed in the correct direction. That means when they return, they also back onto the turntable.
I don't have any better ideas so let's stick with the concrete theme.

Here is a section of the layout I had to rebuild because of frequent derailments.
Originally there was an Atlas #8 curved turnout at the Apex of this curve. My Ribbonrail gauge indicated the inside curve was 30" and my full length passenger cars would often derail trying to take the inside curve. It's still about a 30" radius at the apex, but because there are much broader easements leading to it, they are able to negotiate the turn.
A Peco #7 curved turnout, which actually has broader radii than the Atlas #8, was moved to the right as shown below.
You can see where the outside curve originally was located and has since been rerouted. The passenger station is just to the right of this photo.
I'm not going to reballast this section or rebuild the grade crossing until I've done enough operating sessions that I have confidence the derailment problem has been resolved, but the early testing has been promising.

After adding a partial upper level over some of my original layout, I realised that some turnouts on the lower level were now a lot more difficult to reach. I was able to pick-up four Rapido turnout motors at a very reasonable price, but it was more work than I had expected to install them, and more mess, too...
...this one was the hardest to reach, both due to the distance and the fact that nearby structures were not removeable...
I did get them installed though, and they work well. Here's one after the clean-up...
These two operate off the same fascia-mounted switch, as both need to move if the crossover is to be used...
...and the hardest-to-reach-one got cleaned-up, too...
