Bent Chassis on a concor 4-8-4 S-2
Posted by NonTadpole1 on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 3:37 PM

Hello all!

I have an issue with my concor 4-8-4 S2 chassis being bent in the front where it holds the cow catcher and the cylinders. I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to fix it. Below is a photo of what I'm dealing with, it is the front of the chassis and is made of brass and twisted clockwise! Thank you!

I'm new here and I had a picture posted with it, anyone know how to get the pictures on there?

Welcome Your first few posts are monitored, and so may take some time to appear.

This is mentioned at the top of the forum.  You need to have the photo on a server. So you upload your photo to a server and then put that information in the call-out box. Click on the icon that looks like a photo and paste the URL there.

Most of the photos that I post come from Google Images, but I do have photos on my server, such as... http://broadwaylion.com/pics/211028-BL-Interlocking.jpg

Just paste that link into the pictures call-out and there is your picture!

A photo would help for sure. Here is the sticky explaining how to post a photo:

From what I have seen, this is an n scale locomotive. Finding a donor engine is probably not feasible. Have you tried removing the leading truck and front details and gently bending it back in place with pliers? It's hard to judge without a good photo.

If he can get the locomotive disassembled to the frame, he might get or make up a set of daps and blocks that would let him carefully hammer any bends or twists out.  He might get somewhere with jewelers' smooth jaw needle nose pliers, but I think gentle hammering, first on one side and then the other using an appropriate size and shape of dap and dapping block to 're-form' the pre-bent shape, would be the ticket here.

Sorry for the late response, here is a photo of what has happened. It is an n scale locomotive and it seems to only be the front that is twisted, not the whole chassis.

I hope this image works

One last try on the photo, sorry.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but I would try putting the bent part in a vise, and try to re-bend it in place with pliers. Gently. The only other option I can think of is heating it up before re-bending it, but that's beyond my level of expertise...

I got it figured out, I ended up heating the end to anneal the cast brass a little and then gently bent it back into place, it worked like a charm:)
