Hey there!
What is the best method of modeling snow and winter scenes?

I know that the best winter scenes I have seen (no pun intended) are on Gary Hoover's MK&Q, an HO scale freelance railroad. He talks about the technique he uses in the MR layout feature, which I think was most recently done in October 2000. The snow on his layout is the most realistic I've seen--it looks like there was an actual HO scale snowstorm on his layout! I also know he's doing some clinics for the 2001 NMRA show in St Louis (www.nmra.org).

check in "Building Realistic Model Railroad Scenery" by Dave Fary, from Kalmbach books (WWW.kalmbachbooks.com)or any of their books. However, I'm planning a layout, and am thinking of modeling a snow scene by painting white latex paint over plaster cloth, then covering it with fake "snow" from one of the manufactuers.

I am totaly biased on this one, but the best way to model snow is to build a garden railway and wait for winter........Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I posed a similar question some time back and got some great answers. I've since changed the direction I was heading, but here is that thread for some great insights: http://cs.trains.com/forums/1384817/ShowPost.aspx
