Logging Out
Posted by Guy Papillon on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 3:28 PM

It seems I am permanently logged In.  I can't log out whatever button I use.  How is this possible?  What can I do?

Guy,

Clear your web browser history (i.e. cache, cookies, logins, etc) then you'll be logged out.

I never log out I'm always logged in. The problem is the opposite, the website takes me two weeks to log in again.

Did you make sure ALL the boxes in your browser history were checked before you cleared it?  If they were that should do it.  You might also try restarting your computer.  Course, you'll have to re-log into every other website that your cookies have captured automatically for you...

This is a long shot, do you use more than one device? Do you need to make sure both are cleared and logged off?

I can use my laptop or phone to participate,  but the phone can't open some features. Electronics can do funny things. Something to check?

Doesn't that Log Out button in the green box on the upper right where it says welcome work?

Yea its doing something funky. I remember this happening to me when I was here last year. Based on "something" it wont let you log in or our of certain devices. I think what was said above using multiple devices is the problem. Its on the CS.trains side I'm pretty sure. Clearing cookies doesnt seem to do it. I can only now log in and out from one PC.  My other PC and phone are no longer working (yet they were earlier this week).

While the OP has my sympathy, an optimist would see his problem as part of the charm of the forum software. It does so many things to so many different forum members.

In my case, I am now in my 9th month of Private Messages not working and a total inability to access any forums other than this MR forum.

In addition, I have 33 lines of software coding in red letters above my screen name on the right side of the page. Lovely!

I never log out, and I don't think I have ever tried to.

So far, everything seems to still be working for me. I no longer get a notification there are messages in my in box, but I can go there and check.

Thought you were permanently logging out!

What browser are you using?

FYI..... it doesnt matter what browser your using. Nor does it matter what OS your on. It doesnt even matter what device you are using, cell or PC. It happens to be the code associated with the command "Log Out". (its on the server, not your devices)

Back when this country wasnt full of thieves, the "log out" command did essentially that. Now, there all kinds of..... "Analytics" coded/added in. And if you are using some kind of 'ad blocker', or 'spam protection', etc etc, its gonna hang every time on the log out command because all the unneeded 'crapola' just doesnt play well together.

You cant get to the part of the code that says "LogoutUserID=YourNameHere" because the anti-whatever your using is blocking some of the 'analytics'. The scripts that are stealing info from you are waiting for an answer they wont get because some are being blocked. Thus, you never get to the part of the code that is actually wanted/needed (ie: the actual logout command). And the analytics come first - they want to steal your stuff BEFORE they let you just walk out. So the script 'hangs' and your logged in forever.

A quick reveal of the code behind the 'logout' button will show anyone who wants to look exactly whats going on. However, getting a thief to show you that part, well, good luck! But its there. Maybe we should ask the scantily clad girl to the right side of the screen? Maybe she can also tell us what a porn ad is doing on a family oriented website? And just out of curiousity for you paper subscribers to MR/Trains etc etc..... are there ads like that in the printed mags too? That ad being there is proof positive Kalmbach is selling your info. It wouldnt be there if someone wasnt making money off of you!

Dont worry though. Do you actually think that if you log out of something your not still being followed? Listened to? Stolen from? Clean your browser ques all you want. Reboot even. Do you think the server you were just on didnt log your IP/computer name/username? Think it didnt save it? Do you really think your forgotten once you log out?  No need to worry because theres nothing you can do, except.....

Best advice - cut the cord!

I haven't had one of those in a long time. I figured Kalmbach fixed that issue.

What I get on the right side in her spot are now things like:

"Why John Wayne Really Stopped Making Movies"

"Why Pat Boone's Fans Hate Him"

"The Real Reason Elvis Bought Graceland"

And the ever-present "Kill The Goblin"

I never click any of them.

My screen doesn't have room for that. I get this...all of the time.

Man, Rich!  One more line of code and I would have had your SSN, you wife's date-of-birth, and your dog's middle name.  You are a tease...
