Greetings! Just passing through with some not so good news. Curt Baker passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021, from Covid 19 complications. Too bad, Curt was a Frisco alum, modeler, author and trucker who planned to retire next year. Some of you may have known him or encountered him over the years. He was at the St. Louis RPM less than a month ago and had spent time with myself and a good friend. RIP

Grandson number 1 wanted me to take him to the Transport Museum on Tyneside.  It used to be an Aircraft Museum previously.  Therefore a lot of exhibits are air related.   One section is on American Servicemen based at Usworth Aerodrome.

I managed to get the CosPlay spears painted. They are hanging in the garage drying. In 24 hours I will drive them to Orlando.

This was one heck of a rushed job. Given the time constraints, I think they turned out pretty good.

I made one of the spears before, and I did a much better job with it.

Here is Baby/Baby back when she was 17 posing with the previous version.

Good evening

Hi Brent.  Nice to here from you too more than you know!

It was a clause of eminent domain.  TC&W had to move over and let the light rail come through.

Interesting you have the same Bridge structure going on up there for the light rail.  I guess when the engineering is good the engineering is goodYes

I never had a reason to jump on the light rail and take it for a ride but the curiosity got the best of us.  Judy, myself and Tim took the light rail down to the Joint near Minneapolis for brunch.

It's a biker bar and we were meeting some of our friends down there.

I'll never get over when the doors opened up and Tim and my Judy held hands and skipped down the sidewalk towards Joint.  I was walking at a steady pace falling behind them laughing my butt offLaugh

I have a couple of lady friends that tend to do that. I just follow behind and tell people It's OK, I'm their keeper.Laugh

I don't think I have had a snort in two months. Someone just dropped me off a bottle of Appletons, I bet that will bring Bear out of the woodwork.Pirate

It is a perfect day weatherwise and I shall take my Appletons and go sit in the sunshine.Cowboy

Building the Huey Long Bridge in New Orleans in the 1930s.  You can see the railroad bridge in the distance with its long approach.

I never knew they spanned out from the center building truss Bridges John?

I now stand more educatedYes

That is some engineering!

Thanks

Gidday Dave, Summer is my busiest time of the year and while I might get several days off between Christmas and New Year, I don’t venture too far from home as, over the years, I have been called back to w**k on several occasions, leaving Her-in-doors and the kids to holiday on their own.

Considering it is winter, we were pretty lucky with the weather, the days that it did really rain and blow were slated as museum days anyhow, and while some of the photos may look gloomy, while we were well rugged up, we weren’t getting wet as quite a few of the things we wanted to see required a decent walk, which doesn’t hurt the Bear, at all!!

Glad that I’m providing you with some good memories, Batman.

Someone just dropped me off a bottle of Appletons, I bet that will bring Bear out of the woodwork Pirate

I was introduced to a Canadian product, Fireball on my recent travels in former Gold Country. A small dram as a nightcap, very nice!!

I now wish that I got a decent side on view of the Wickham Inspection car, Kevin, just for the dimensions, though I think that those won’t present you with any difficulties, if you should ever pursue scratch building such a beast for the S & G.

Speaking of track inspection vehicles, especially in the light of Eds recent offerings, here’s a photo of a manpowered jigger taken in the Weka Pass Railways, Glenmark Station.

As for this “beast” is it of Australian origin (???), this would be just the thing for (sl)easy rider Bear!!! Cool ???

Travelling through the Catlins, on the lower southeast coast of the South Island, was one of those days we were lucky with the weather as there was a bit of walking involved to see the sites we wanted to see, which we got to do between quite heavy showers. In the Age of Sail and prior to the opening of the Panama Canal, the Roaring 40s south of New Zealand was a major shipping route, and one not for the faint hearted, so light houses were a very important aid for shipping safety.

The first photo is taken on the road leading to the Nugget Point lighthouse, the second of the lighthouse its self.

Something, perhaps a little different for Mr.TF.We travelled on quite a few secondary roads on our holiday and it’s not unusual to see this road sign approaching bridges, it’s self-explanatory.

Just got back yesterday from seeing the Big Boy in Poplar Bluff MO.

I spend 4 days camping over in MO and "chasing" the train.

I will post some pictures later, they have imgur blocked here at work.

Got some really nice shots.

Good morning, everyone.  Bacon, eggs, and black coffee please, Brunhilda.

MLC, camping and train-watching.  That sounds like a perfect time.

Bear, nice pictures of your vacation.  Beautiful country.

It's supposed to rain late today, so that means I need to cut the grass today.  We are having great weather, with temps in the 80s.

We still have some relatives in New Orleans.  The ones we have contacted left before the storm, but we have some that live in the swamps right in the path of the storm.  I don't know if they were able to get out.

How about the RRRR?

Good morning crew.  I just scrolled back a few pages to catch up with what's been going on.

Kevin goes back to work!  My brother works at HD, part time.

Not much going on with me, keeping very busy, working on things at our WI. north woods place, which includes trips around the chain of lakes on our pontoon boat, along with fishing.

Now that we are both retired, we spend about 3 weeks up there, and about 2 weeks down here, in SE. WI.

I'm putting on an addition to the north woods place, slowly turning it into a year around home.  Probably get rid of the cape code, with all the steps, and move up there.

I've had a sore hip the last few weeks, my doctor and my rheumatologist think it's time for a hip replacement.  I see my orthopedic surgeon on Thursday for an evaluation.

That will slow me down for a little while!. Hopefully, a very little while.  Smile, Wink & Grin

My old Dell T3500, with Windows 7 finially died.  Actually, it was my fault.  I had the tower sitting on a piece of 2x6 to keep it up off the carpet.  After a while, I guess it got moved around enough that it flopped over on it's side.

Everything kept working, I carefully stood it back it back up, then it all went dark.

It was out of support anyway, I think since December of last year.

My IT Tech daughter told me I might have scrambled the hard drive.  She thinks she can still retrieve some of the data from it.

On to a new computer!  I now have a HP All in one (AIO), there is no tower, it's all built into the back of the huge (20"x13") screen.  Uses Windows 10.

Did I read that TF was in WI. ?

Later guys!

Mike.

Good day eh. From a sunny Pacific basin.

With University starting and a long weekend, I booked the ferry so we could be assured of not having to wait a sailing. They run once an hour but still this week is busy. I got the same boat both ways. I always love the trip, stunning beauty.

Coastal Celebration Ocean Ferry Ship Tour - YouTube

I will drop my daughter off and have a quick visit with my cousin and get back home as the Mother-in-law is on the decline so the wife is being stretched pretty thin and I need to help where I can. Our mini-vacation will happen some other time.

I just got off the phone with a daughter of close friends in Virginia. She was letting us know that both her parents have covid and are in hospital, her Dad is not expected to survive. She was spitting bullets saying that they were so stupid not getting vaccinated. The daughter was vaccinated in the late spring but her parents just blew it off. I talked to her for a long time as she was in tears.

Hurricanes and fires, I feel lucky where I am, the weather is never an issue, and wildfires in the Fraser Valley are rare and are knocked down right away when they do occur.

Need to hop on the Deere before heading overseas.

TA TA for now.

Waiting to fall in behind for a ten-mile push.

Brent

Thank you for the UK videos David. One of my favorite train rides, was from Paddington to St. Erth to Carbis Bay. We (my wife, daughter and I) would walk the coastal path to St. Ives and take the train back to Carbis Bay. These trips were some of our best vacations. Regards, Eric

Good morning, diners.  Last day for this month's interesting travels.

David, that was an interesting video of the tunnel crossing.  I didn't have the sound on ... I wonder how expensive it is do this with a car.

It's storming out right now.  The thunder woke me up this morning.

This is the double track Illinois Central bridge across the Missouri River at Omaha.  It's not used anymore, but they did a study to see if it could be used in case the UP bridge was out of service.  The east half of the bridge is permanently open:

Today:

Have a good day, everyone.

That's a lot cheaper than I thought it would be.

My kids all rode the tunnel train in the coach two years ago.  I didn't know you could drive your car onto the train.

Morning all from a damp West Coast. The Sun is supposed to be back by noon and I think it will be ahead of schedule by the look of it.

Went to the Dentist last week and they discovered a cracked tooth and booked me in for a crown after the dust settled from getting my daughter back to University. Well, the tooth just broke and now I have a big jagged tooth to deal with until I get back. Grumpy It's a good thing I am taking my cousin a couple of bottles of wine, I'll need it.Laugh

My Cousins in England take their car back and forth to France all the time for short vacations, it is really reasonable. Our ferry to Vancouver Island is $75.00CA one way for car and driver. I think that is a really good deal.

It has been a long time since I have been to Europe, I use to go all the time when I was single. Hawaii seemed to be the destination of choice after we got married as it could be done last minute with our family's hectic schedule. We went to Hawaii a couple of years ago but covid has put a stop to going anywhere international for us. It was Christmas day and we just decided to get out of town at the last minute and left on the 27th. Came home to a very dried-out Christmas tree.Laugh

Great Big Boy pics MLC, I would love to see it in person one day. Maybe it will come to Seattle one day, I would drive down to see it there in a heartbeat.

Terrible hurricane damage down South, after seeing those storm surges, I am glad to be on high ground. I was surprised to learn that Vancouver gets less rain than so many Gulf Coast cities. Even when a tsunami warning is issued we can roll over and go back to sleep. We are at about 85m and inland a ways.

I had a good go on the recumbent bike (paid for the rum) and have finally stopped leaking, so time to get going and stop being a layabout.

Blowdown shields.

All the best to all.
