Good Evening,

The temp is dropping and I made 24 trips downstairs carrying trays of plants. Good thing they weren't in pots or the ground. They will be there until Thursday.

Too cold and windy for bbq so will have to wait and see how it is tomorrow.

That is a very good quote and so true Brent.

I'm going to have to check out Amazon again and see if I can tune in the Canadian hockey game tonight.  Hasn't been working all the time lately and I'm going to have to give them a call.

Judy's checking out Devils Tower as we speak John.  We may just fit that into our plan.  We're going to check out the Black Hills biker town.  Nothing should be going on while we're there and that's just the way I like it.

Have you ever have one of those days

My kid is having a really bad day and I told him to print this off and hang it over his desk.

I hear the National Anthem! Toronto vs Montreal= The Captain and Pepsi!

It was supposed to be a day off from working out, but I burned off a quick 1000 calories on the bike to pay for the Rum in advance. Big Smile

After we see our grandson graduate from high school and we're already halfway there, Judy wants to drive down to South Dakota and see Mount Rushmore.  It's a done deal.  I always did want to see that in person and now I guess we're gonna.

You will like it.  Be sure to drive around in Custer State Park.  There are some impressive sights there.

As long as you're that far, two and a half hours from there is one of the neatest places in the U.S., Devil's Tower.  It is worth the drive!

Good evening

Tired!

Have you ever have one of those days when you wake up in the morning and think all I got to do today is this and I'll be relaxing early, ...Yahoo!

Got my deck painted in 2 hours and then had a plumbing call while I was cleaning up.

There's good plumbing days and bad plumbing days.  I inherited some handy hacks botched job and had to redo everything.  And then they wanted me to take care of the bathroom drain as well because that was jacked too.  It wasn't an early day off, but ya gotta keep them happy.

Actually I should be very happy I rarely ever have to leave the building for side jobs anymore.

Yeah, Hudson Road is only about 20 minutes from me Ed.  That Walmart is not too far from Twin City handyman I used to subcontract for a lot.

I'm going to pick up some bacon, lettuce and tomato with some out of season Florida/Cali corn and have some BLTs with Dukes mayonnaise.  And make my friend John's corn on the cob sauce concoction for the cornDinner

I look forward to the small things these daysStick out tongue

Well the plot just got a little thicker this evening.  After we see our grandson graduate from high school and we're already halfway there, Judy wants to drive down to South Dakota and see Mount Rushmore.  It's a done deal.  I always did want to see that in person and now I guess we're gonna.

I've never heard of Duke's Mayonnaise before let alone having a food item shipped.  Sounds kind of fun, I think I'll order one of those and check that out too.

Hey, TF. I looked at Duke's website and typed in St. Paul and one result came up:

Maybe that's near you? I've actually never been in a Wal-mart but maybe it isn't too far from you?

I had never heard of Duke's either until my sister gave me a jar. I was born and raised on Miracle-Whip and still use it for most things (especially egg salad sandwiches) but I do like the Duke's on BLTs and turkey club sandwiches.

In the first week of May we had the wood stove going and night time temperatures were in the twenties. Today I fired up the A-C for the first time. 93° right now and low tonight of 78° (F) !

Good afternoon, diners.  We started with a rainy day, but it is now sunny, hot, and humid.  A sign of what we will have in July.

I was sorry to read of Chip "SpaceMouse"'s illness.  He contributed a lot to Weekend Photo Fun and stopped in at the diner.

Here's his post of his health problems he's facing:

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/11/t/283666.aspx?page=4#3341905

Not sure if that link will take you to the right place, but you can find it.

Edit, I just tried it and can't get the link to go live.  Anyway, it's the "Building the Rock Ridge Railroad" thread.

We're packing for another trip to see grandchildren.  Long drives for short visits.

Have a good afternoon, everyone.

Well hopefully your new garage door's installed by now Kevin.  Sir Knight Light can't be standing watch next to an old door.  He needs some fresh surroundings in his new environment.

They just finished it up, and I paid the invoice. All done. The new door is beautiful. It is all white and clean. So much better than the old brown door.

Sir Knightlight approves!

Duke's is good stuff. My wife prefers Hellman's. Neither of us care for Kraft Mayo.

Good Morning,

All this talk of corn on the cob is making me despondent. Since I wound up in Emerg Feb/15 with a diverticular bleed, no corn for me or anything with seeds. The little shells on corn kernels can get stuck and cause an infection.

All this bbq talk has resulted in my going to pick up some prime rib burger patties. They make the best burgers I've ever tasted. A couple will be on thr grill tonight even if there are showers.

I was up at 5 this morning as my wife had her annual check up at 7 am. It is my turn tomoÅ•row.

We will have to carry aĺl those plants we bought down to the basement tonight as we are supposed to get frost tonight. They are in trays but still it will take at least a dozen trips.

I want to run the RS3 today and then it will be time for running steam. My roster is now 80% steam. I'm slowly going backwards in time, maybe a little wishful dreaming on my part. Sure miss Robbie.

We go to Aldi and I've seen that cheese Ed.  I'll have to give it a try.  I've never heard of Duke's Mayonnaise before let alone having a food item shipped.  Sounds kind of fun, I think I'll order one of those and check that out too.

Judy's sister Barb shipped us this super fancy ice cream on dry ice for Christmas last yearDinner  There was five different flavors and the stuff was phenomenal.  Judy had to guard the freezer with me in the house.  If shipping ice cream is doable, I don't see why mayonnaise can't make it.  Strikes me kinda funny,  I'll be spreading some good Dukey on my sandwiches soonLaughWink

Good morning

I sure do like the wooden propeller clock you worked so hard on BearYes  It certainly has its character.  Let me know if you figure out a way to get it to spin counter-clock-wise and slow the clock downHuh?

I like the old black and white photo of the steamer pushing the Reading caboose Ed, and the similarity of your new signal lights you did.  I'd love to see how those work.

Couldn't get Amazon to work last night for the Wild game but I guess they won the casino team 4-2Yes

Easy day today.  Paint a 5x12 deck.  How hard can that be?

Now I'm really in the mood for corn on the cob today and it's out of seasonSad  I wonder if I can find some good Florida or California stuff?  I think I'll look this afternoon.

Have a great day gentlemanWink

Amongst the stuff was a black painted wooden propeller that had obviously suffered a prop strike, which was destined for the rubbish bin. I asked if it was Ok, if the back of my ute was a suitable bin, and was told yes, take it away.

One of my prized posessions, Bear, is a wooden prop I grabbed also from a trash bin. Mine doesn't have the clock, sadly. (How do you tell the time when she's spinning so fast?)

Mine doesn't have the same history, though. I was driving by my sis-in-law's road and saw it sticking out of a rubbish can while a moving van was in the driveway. Didn't take me long to spot it and toss it in the truck Wink

Dave, I wonder if Olive oil cooking spray would taste any better? I just looked at my non-stick grill cooking spray and, guess what makes it non-stick?

You bet. It has SILICONE in it! Yum  Ick!

Dave, I've tried that once and must have done something wrong.  A good many of the kernels turned out chewy.  Any idea?  Grilling husk on after a good soaking has always worked out perfectly for me, so maybe I just stick to that.  Never tried Old Bay on corn, but I will have to.  If it's not just butter, salt, and pepper for me, then it's butter and Tony Chachere's.  Good stuff!

Bear, love the clock!

Gidday Chloe, all this talk about smoked meats and barbeque sauces is making me drool.

I’m not sure whether I’m a food heretic, but all fresh sweet corn on the cob needs is four minutes in the microwave, husks and all. Take care that the natural steam doesn’t scald when removing the husks and silk, then, once slightly cooled, eat and enjoy!! Simple and delicious!!Dinner

While w**k has always been a case of “Hurry, Hurry, STOP!”, the supply chain issues, and the general downturn, due to Covid, has made things worse!
That said, several years ago, when I was helping sort out stuff in a backroom in a hanger, that on close inspection was mostly comprised of scrap aircraft parts, which the owner sold to the scrap merchant.
Amongst the stuff was a black painted wooden propeller that had obviously suffered a prop strike, which was destined for the rubbish bin. I asked if it was Ok, if the back of my ute was a suitable bin, and was told yes, take it away.
So, now that I’ve had some time, I’ve finally sanded back the paint, polished and clear coated the brass leading edge, gave the wood several coats of polyurethane, fabricated a mounting bracket, and fitted the clock.
It now, with Her-in-doors blessing, is hanging in our dining room.

BigDaddy
I have seen suggestions to grill it without the husk.  I dunno about that.

Hi Henry,

We grill our corn on a hot BBQ without any husks left on it. It is delicious!!!!!!

We spray the corn with Pam cooking spray and then sprinkle on Old Bay seasoning. I like a lot of the Old Bay, but Dianne prefers a lighter application. If you do it right, the corn chars just enough to make it sweet and savoury. You have to turn it frequently because once the kernals start to char, the whole side of the cob can burn very quickly.

In my humble opinion grilled corn is much better tasting than boiled corn, and I like boiled corn!

Give it a try! You will discover a whole new way of doing corn on the cob.

Cheers!!

Dinner

The best corn I ever had was prepared by my Mexican friend John.  Oh, ...And I had it more than once.  He grilled them in the husk and then smeared this butter, Hellman's, mild sauce contraption.  Then rolled in Parmesan cheese

I've been making Elote Street corn for about two years now. As Rachel would say — "Delish"

I use cotija cheese, (Aldi has a close substitute) fresh cilantro and a bit of chili powder. You can use plain frozen corn off the cob but it is best if you brown it a little in a skillet first.

Play around with it to your liking. Miracle Whip or plain mayo (I use Duke's).

Here's a quick video of our dear, departed friend Randy having fun with a camera experiment.

When my daughter got married a few years back, a rainbow appeared later in the day.  I know such things are fleeting, so I ran around getting the bride and groom and the photographer for the shot.

Life cooperated and there's a picture of them under a rainbow.

We get some spectacular double rainbows down here, but never 180 degrees, rarely even 90 degrees. Double rainbows seem to be short arcs.

Someone also told me they boiled it for 20 minutes.  5 minutes is all you need.

Hi Ed, What is on the top shelf of your smoker? Is it corn?

Sure is, Dave. Just a last-minute decision to toss the whole ears in there. As I recall it wasn't that great.

What I usually like to do is soak the whole ear after trimming the silky tops off in cold water for about an hour. Sometimes you need a dinner plate or something to keep it from floating if you soak them in the sink.

Then put them on the grill over low heat or coals. turning 1/4 turn every fifteen minutes or so. Some of the husks burn away but the corn comes out smoky-sweet.

Some like to peel the husk away toward the end of cooking to brown some of the kernels. I don't bother. I'll also do the Mexican street corn seasoning on it, too.
