Goodbye 2020!
I'll start things off with a quick project that I really had no plans on doing! I discovered the remainder of my sand house/sand tower kit on a shelf and decided to give 'er a go. I bought the kit just to get the brick dryer house and never thought I'd use the tower anywhere.
While paging through some New York Central magazines I have I came across photos of a new sand facility in Buffalo, NY and gosh if it wasn't identical to the one in the kit!

I still need a little weathering and blending in, and I need to find some finer sand to mess up the ground with, the stuff in my photo is a little too coarse.
On to more great Holiday Photos, Folks!
Cheers, Ed
Thanks for starting the thread, Ed.
Excellent modeling adding 'that little extra'.
The interior of my Pullman carriages were a 'stark white' and glaringly 'stuck out'.
By taking the body off I was able to paint the interior shades of brown. Passengers were fitted and the body refitted.
Most of my carriages have passengers giving a feel of going somewhere with a reason.

Ed ... Thanks for starting Photo Fun. ... The sand tower looks great.
David .... The carriage with pasengers looks very nice.
Mark ..... There must be a story regarding the "RUD".

Everybody: Merry Christmas.

Good morning from cold and snowy Northeast Ohio!
Ed, thanks for starting us out, good work on that kit, I have an old Stewart metal kit like that I will be using on the layout.
David, another good picture of your outstanding layout.
Mark, you sure have got a lot of work done on the roundhouse, those really seem to take up a lot of time and effort to look good.
I managed to complete a couple of cars this week!
Intermountain Railway PS1 Boxcar Kit, as the prototype was orinally a 6' Door car purchased by the Rock Island in 1951. It was sold to Evans who modified it to an 8' Door car with a strengthened side sill. I removed the tabbed side sill and installed new full length side sill out of Evergreen plastic, cut down the ladders on the A end of the car and removed the roo, fwalk to match the prototype and installed A-line Sill steps. Car was painted with a mixture of Scalecoat Ii White, Yellow, Blue and Red Paints and lettered with Herald King Decals. The prototype car was assigned for flour loading on the Buffalo Creek Railway in Buffalo, NY even though the ATW was a North Carolina Railroad.
Tangent Scale Models PS 4740 Kit, painted with Scalecoat II White and Black Paints then lettered with Oddballs Decals. Another of the grain elevator purchased cars to supplement the railroad supplied cars for the increased grain shipments in the late 60's era.
Pair or Rapido Ann Arbor FA-2's with a general freight on the Stongsville OH Club Layout.
Thanks for looking!

Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
Thanks for starting WPF Ed.
Your modeling of the prototypical photo sure turned out nice on that sanding Tower.....Factory!
A great job you did on that passenger car David. I'm certainly not familiar with an Alethea passenger car from England but it sure looks nice
I don't know exactly what you have planned for the Turntable and Roundhouse Mark but the progress of the Roundhouse it self sure looked excellent to me Before the cat attack???
I never seen a Christmas tree with a train going around it with yet a railroad yard Garry, ...Wow that's an original
Rick, Those cars will be an excellent addition to your Fleet. What a great job you did and I really like that Mountain scene past the mine
Well this doesn't look like much but it is a milestone for me
Common Sense finally struck my little pea brain. I removed all four of my unfinished - unpainted main line Bridges. I also determined where the last two of the six will be.
I replaced them with Masonite Temps. Now I can finally lay my PECO track with the temp Bridges and replace them one at a time at my leisure when I finish a bridge
After 3 years, Now I can finally lay my track and start enjoying my trains.
Happy

Ill have quite a few prototypical buildings now.

Ed, Thanks for opening the Yuletide edition of WPF with some nice gritty pics.
Thanks to all the contributors and viewers, Merry Christmas and regards, Peter

Ed: Thank for for starting Weekend Photo Fun for us this week. I like the sand tower. I think only the very first STRATTON AND GILLETTE layout had a sand tower on it.
David: Your passenger car interior does look good, what part of it I can see through the carriage windows. Were there PULLMAN cars in Europe?
Mark: I would love to hear the story about how your roundhouse model was re-kitted.
Garry: Your tree was definitely improved with the addition of the Lionel trains. That looks great.
Rick: I really like both of the new freight cars that you shared this week. They both are very handsome in their black-on-white (or off-white) lettering schemes.
Fiddler: Glad to hear that you should be running some trains soon. That must be exciting for you.
Jimmy: I'll bet having your own 3D printer will be great for your model building projects. Nice.
Peter: Let me say it... that is one sweet load.
Bear: Thank you for another great toon this weekend.
This is an oldie, but I love it. My favorite Christmas themed picture. An open top hopper car full of Christmas ornaments!

Living the dream.
Thanks everyone for your comments.
TF. All my Pullman coaches are named after members of my family. They like to see the layout and 'their things' on it.
Kevin. https://www.thepullmansociety.org.uk/history gives a little history of Pullman carriages in UK and Europe.
As for the coach I wil post a picture of it open.
Great contributions this weekend, folks!
Another project Ihad going this week was to put together some Trix by Märklin box cars that I picked up "cheep" on eBay.
I keep an eye out for these cars as sometimes they can be had for a reasonable outlay. The three most recent I got for $10 plus $6 shipping
Trix had a problem with severe zinc pest and sometimes the car bodies get damaged.
Trix_PRR_X29b by Edmund, on Flickr
These three PRR cars had an easily repairable crack at the bottom of the door sill.
I make a modification to the underframe to fill in where the wishbone draftgear and NEM coupler box fit in:

Using a filler piece of black .080 styrene I drill and tap for a screw and install a Kadee coupler and draft gear.

I put some Kadee National B1 trucks on a few of the cars:

The detailing on these cars are every bit as good as Intermountain equivalent.

Last year I happened on to a set of six for less than $10 each.

Nice stuff everyone!
Although I wasent planning to get this engine, I found it listed for $50, so I couldnt resist. Its super cliche, but whatever.
I didnt actually plan to have a train running under the tree, so I just quickly set up an incomplete circle, took the engine and one passenger car out, and took a little photoshoot:
Got the headlight on via some quick work in Photoshop!
Cheers!

Pruitt My roundhouse suffered a RUD (Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly) last evening.
Wow! My new kittens must have visited your layout.
I havent been posting lately because of all the overtime I'v been putting in. Bot I thought I would share my christmas presents with you.
The car in the Ulrich box is actually an all metal Athern kit.
Rust...... It's a good thing !
The inside of a Pullman carriage. I did not want to overdo the brown as it would then be too dark. The figures are cheap ones from China. Giving the hint of passengers on board.
I acquired a rake of tank cars from my son, who has gone on to other interests.
At the timeframe of my layout these tank cars would have just been introduced. Therefore I have weathered them only slightly.
Ed: Thanks for the start to WPF. The sand tower scene looks great.
David: Good looking scene. Only a few of my passenger cars (carriages) have figures in them. Something to work on.
Mark: Oh Boy! An Earthquake?
Garry: A circle track and a yard around the Christmas Tree. Well done!
Rick: Great looking cars as usual. The Ann Arbor locos are really good looking.
TF: Progress looks good. The temp bridges make a lot of sense. Good luck.
Jimmy: Good for you. The sky is now the limit.!
Peter: A couple of worth Holiday flat car loads.
Kevin: A good Christmas scene. A skeleton signal (box)?
Ed: Good job with the TRIX cars. Quite a bargain.
Charles: A nice scene.
LT: You have your work cut out for awhile. Some cool kits there.
David: Good looking cars. I also use the Chinese figures where possible The are a real bargain.
My "Big" Christmas present from my wife. Walthers Mainline. UP SD70ACe w/sound.
UP 8314 with five new boxcars. Also presents from my wife.
Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.

Probably the last pic for a while as i get ready to disassemble and move the layout - into storage for now and eventually to a new home at some point. I'll keep checking the thread as it really inspires me.
David: Thank you for the information about the PULLMAN cars operating in Europe. I had absolutely no idea about any of that.
Ed: Your Trix boxcars are wonderful. They are beautiful models, and I am glad you have been able to put so many of them back into service.
Charles: Your effort to set up a little bit of a train scene around the tree has resulted in a good photograph. Thank you for sharing.
Timmy: That is quite a big project you have acquired for yourself. It sure llike like it will be a lot of fun for a long while.
David: I got an unbelievable deal on dozens of incomplete boxes of Preiser figures a few years ago. I have no excuse for not populating my passenger cars, but I still have not populated any of them yet.
Allan: That is quite a nice Christmas present from your wife. It is a great looking locomotive.
JR: Nice yard tower. It sure looks good on your layout. I hope you can take down the layout and get it moved without any damage. Please keep checking in, and don't be a stranger.
