ricktrains4824Kevin - All those older planes are interesting though. Is that because of fire risk?
It is to keep us all distanced from one another. We can all enjoy the show in the sky from our backyards instead of cramming onto the beaches for the fireworks show.
Fire is not a concern for our fireworks shows, since they are all set off over bodies of water.
I never go to the public shows. There is not enough parking, and the trolley shuttles take forever.
I wish I was at home for the airshow this year, I love the sound of antique radial aircraft engines.
GMTRacingTitusville has that big show down your way Kevin. I got to see it when we were doing an Audi test at Cape Canaveral (using the shuttle landing strip for high speed runs). 5 B-25's a B-29 and IIRC two B-24's plus a ton of different fighters and trainers. Really good fun! They got permission to do flyovers the next day while we were testing (the R-18 plus ultra was still secret at the time).
I have never made it to the Titusville air show. Charlotte County is just 30 minutes away and they have a pretty good annual air show.
At the Tampa Executive Airport there would be B17 and B29 flights twice a year, and the approach went right over my office. That was always a good thrill.
I was on I-285 in Atlanta once and a B-52 landed at Hartsfield/Jackson. That was something to see. I have no idea why that happened. I am surprised I did not get in a wreck.
Watching planes take off from ATL I was always amazed at just how big 747s are. They would probably be one of about every 40 planes, but they seemed twice as large as anything else.

Living the dream.
Good Evening All,
Spent the day doing chores and delivering a fireplace surround the CFO made for our daughters new (to her) house. Also some yard and garden implements, fixed up string trimmer and lawn mower/mulcher kind of stuff. First time I've seen the house - it's a nice first home with lots of room for two in good shape.

Haven't tackled the paving around the Sperry building yet but I have a 4 x 8 sheet of .060" styrene or 20" x 30" foam core paper to use. Once I get a pattern on brown paper, I will see what is easier to shim to track height. I only have to worry about one turnout so it won't be as difficult as I thought. Thanks to Gary and Rick for the advice. I've done pavement just not such a big area all at once with track as well. Hope you all have a pleasent day tomorrow as we remember those of us who didn't make it back alive. Ciao, J.R.

Rick I am not taking my unempolyment from ILL. I am getting my funds from the Fed's Loan to the Company to cover my wages during the shut down. Far as Nancy goes, well it was her idea and my store has been shut down for 42 days now. Yet one day before the Big Weekend Sale she gets the bright idea to make me work? Pual was the one that made the call but it had a Nancy Brain Storm all over it! She does this ever holiday no matter how many people are working.
Time to sit outside with Dirk.
Later, Ken and Dirk says Woof, Woof!

hon30critterMaybe it is because the news stations have copyright over their productions. I could understand MR not wanting to infringe on that. If the moderators choose to delete my previous post, then lesson learned, sort of. It is confusing.
It is perfectly legal to make a quote from a copyrighted work or photo, just give due credit. After we are not selling the stuff, if anything just giving them publicity. Wspecially so since the context of your post is not the astlry that they are running.

He has good content. I like his stuff.
I'm beginning to realize that Windows 10 and sound decoders have a lot in common. There are so many things you have to change in order to get them to work the way you want.
RideOnRoadExtreme jealousy on my part. The P-51 has been my favorite vintage plane since I was a teenager.
Yeah... Used to watch them fl;y over Long Island when I was a kid. Probably out of Mitchell Field.
Good afternoon all.
Zoe - A big RBF please. Thanks.
Ed - That track does have some dirty ballast, although I have seen more misplaced ballast on the ties than that side one. A very nice capture though. Like the CVSR one as well.
Robert - Good to see you back in the diner.
John - Those thunderboomers are most likely headed my way next. Seems they are in my forecast for a few days.
Kevin - All those older planes are interesting though. Is that because of fire risk?
Ken - While that store is further away, be careful that they don't mistake it for you turning down available w*^k... In PA that would end the unemployment pay, not sure how IL handles it. It being out of state and your state still under lockdown in yours may save you though. With how you have described Nancy, I would not put it past her to view it as you refusing to accept w*^k though...
J.R. - Ever try using sheet styrene for pavement? It's cheap, and stays flat with a lot less hassle if it's a big open area. Paint and weather like normal. (Seen recently in a MR special where they used custom printed decals to create the roadway so that cracks, patches and all were done in one quick project.)
Weather - 82°F currently, but overcast with a ~75% chance of Thunder.
W*^k - Still off, and while approved for the unemployment, they sure are taking their sweet time paying!
Trains - Working on a locomotive shell, drilling grab locations, and have so far snapped off two of my remaining three #80 bits.... After successfully drilling a whopping 4 holes.... I think it's time to have a breather from that! Looks like I will be adding to my next shopping list some more extra drill bits to snap off inside of shells.
Any easy way to remove the snapped off bit from the hole? I tried to back it out with a pair of needle nose pliers, only to snap it again...
I am also installing under pilot operating front ditch lights, and a new front plow. (Those are painted and ready to apply as soon as I drill out their mounting holes, with a bigger harder to snap bit.) Paint booth is it's next stop, before decals. The booth has a hopper car drying currently. (Taking forever with the humidity from the rainy weather.)
Finally got around to adding a few of my real train vids to 'the tube', if only for backing them up offsite. I back up several different sites pics, just depends on whether I use them other places online or not.
Nascar is on tonight, so at least something good will be on the idiot box. Not sure what I will make for dinner yet, as while I would love to BBQ, I don't think it is wise to be doing that with the thunder boom risk...
Time to go check (again) the paint booth to see if the hopper car is dry enough to move out of it without damage yet.
Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!

Lots of pretty colors! For the track modelers, look at all the sloppy ballast spread over the ties on the near track and the other one is practically all black.

Enjoy the weekend, folks! Ed
Morning all. It has been a long long time since I have been in here. I like that the diner is brought to us from Ontario. Brings back some memories. It rained here in eastern Montana most of Saturday and through the night. The neighbors rain gauge looks like it has more than 2 inches of rain in it. It looks like we are in for a dreary day today also.
I used to hunt and fish in northern Ontario, mostly around Groundhog Lake. I've been to Timmins, Foleyet, and Chapleau. Foleyet was an interesting town that I didn't think we were going to get out of alive thanks to a loud-mouth drunk we took with us one year. I've been to Niagara Falls a number of times. I've visited Brantford also. I lived in a small town named Catawissa, PA from 2008-2010 and Catawissa was a twinned city. The "city" Catawissa is twinned with is Uxbridge, Ontario. Catawissa has a big Halloween arade every year and a bagpipe band from Uxbridge was there twice that I recall to march in the parade.

Good Sunday morning. I'll have several glazed donuts and black coffee.
We had more thunderstorms last night. I walked the trail this morning beside a full creek and lots of branches on the ground.
We're not sure what we'll do for Memorial Day. We'll probably just take a drive through the cemetery. There are not many ceremonies this year in our area.
I've never been to Ontario, so I don't really have any on-topic pictures or comments. I've been to Canada quite a few times, but all of the trips were in the far west.
When they were young girls, my daughters and I read the 'Anne of Green Gables' series of books, and since then I've always wanted to see Prince Edward Island.
I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

hon30critterHow could posting pictures of lambs being saved possibly break the forum rules?
I have posted stuff from local news stories before, and had it deleted by the moderators.
I do not understand the rules, but apparently links and pictures from local newscasts are forbidden.
Nothing political at all, it was simply a heart-warming feel-good piece.
And the lambs are so cute!
SeeYou190I hope I gave enough information that you can find them on Google. I also hope I did not run afoul of forum rules.
Hi Kevin,
How could posting pictures of lambs being saved possibly break the forum rules? If there is some sort of local political discourse related to the fires then just leave that out of the story.
By the way, I am not a fan of roasted lamb. I would much rather see them being saved than BBQ'd.
I can't find the video but here is the story:
https://wsvn.com/news/local/fire-crews-rescue-lambs-from-florida-wildfires/
I am going to try and not break any rules about talking about the news in here.
These pictures are just too cool.
I know I cannot link to news stories.
So... We had some wildfires last week in Golden Gate, Florida, in Collier County.
There are pictures (no video) taken of a couple of firefighters rescuing a group of 20 baby lambs from a backyard engulfed in flames.
The pictures are so cute, and they will put a big smile on your face.
I hope I gave enough information that you can find them on Google. I also hope I did not run afoul of forum rules.
Ken,
How'd you know---??
Started a fire this afternoon when the temp. hit 56. At present it is 42, I guess we had summer yesterday. The birds have been hitting the suet..hard.
Dame Agatha grows, just coming on nine months, now weighs 74 pounds. Wife started having the pup dance with her when she was five months old. At the time I told her she was making a big mistake...now...dog wants to dance, and you get hit with a running charge, tail going in a circle that would rival the main rotor on a huey, and if you are not braced, best be looking for somthing to grab on the way down. Having too many birthdays does not help in my case.
Tomorrow, after the frost melts, I might try planting some wax beans. The apple tree next to my deck had very few honey bees working the blossoms this afternoon. Of course it was only 56 at the time, might have had something to do with it.
Made an orange holder out of a coat hanger to try to eliminate the chipmunks from cleaning them out in five minutes. Have it hung under the roof on the deck, so far, so good.
Time to run the herd, before I hit the rack...Best to all

MisterBeasleyWe had a flyover this morning. The planes went right down the street in front of my house. First was a B-25, then a P-51.
For Independence Day, all fireworks shows have been cancelled in Southwest Florida.
Instead, we are having all-day flyovers of P51s, P47s, B17s, B29s, B25s, and even a P38!
I will be away.

Getting old sucks! Did some cleaning and weed wacking in the back yard today and after 5 minutes my back was sreaming at me! Sad part it was not hard or heavy lifting work. Pretty sure it is my fat belly causing the problem.
Credit score jumped up 20 points! While my credit has been good for the last year 20 point's is a good hike. Total monthly payments are down to $140.00 if I pay just what is owed, which I don't!
Work Front? Nancy wanted me to work Sunday and Monday because it will be a Big Weekend! Suck a Rail Spike Nancy! She wanted me to work at the Staint Charles store in MO which is no longer closed down. ILL is still locked down and I am getting Fed's funds not to work? So yes Nancy I want to drive 75 miles round trip and not make a extra penny! No Thanks Nancy!
Time to do the Wife, well eyes drops and sit out with Dirk.
Later, Ken and Dirk say's I hate Nancy, Woof, Woof!
GMTRacing Good Afternoon All, Taking a break from sorting hardware in the shop. Rainy out so I'd just as soon not do anything in the trailers. Garry, I have been doing stuff on the layout but a lot of it is noodle work between cleaning up. I have the Sperry building and I want to make the track street level as the prototype building had paving around all the tracks. I will end up raising about a 2 x 3 ft area including the building footprint including two turnouts so there is a bit of complication as well as technique involved. I started looking for tutorials but have found nothing on line yet and haven't started digging through my old magazines yet as seem to remember some recent articles on just this subject. Any hints? I usually use plaster or spackle but the area is big enough that I am hesitant to try to mud and sand such a large (for me) area figuring I'll never get it smooth or level. Back to it. Just got an emergency call from a customer who needs to find racing clutch parts. Off to the attic it is. Ciao, J.R.

JR .... If it is just a large flat area which is to be concrete, I just use plywood. I paint it gray, and weather it with washes of acrylic paints. . I draw lines to represent joints between concrete slabs. I sometimes also draw lines to represent cracks.

Ed .... Does that odd-looking chicken lay enough eggs to earn its keep ? ...
CN Charlie ... Nice to see you..
Everybody ..... Have a good weekend.
Good Afternoon,
Another sunny, warm day here but it is supposed to cool off tomorrow so we will be back to our normal 65F.
Ed, that is a really powerful looking loco. I can see why you wanted one. I have been eying another Hudson. This one is a brass model of a CP H 1a/b. They were the predicessor to the Royal Hudsons. CP used to run one in their steam programme and I saw it when it was through here in 2007. Sadly it sits in an engine shed in Calgary. Who knows when or if it will run again as the time us up on the boiler and it doesn't look like current CP management has any interest in a steam programme. Anyway I really like these engines even if they are CP. I may make an offer on it.
Well soon time to go and make another grocery pickup. This is mostly stuff for my MIL. After that I plan on a little yard work.
Garry, yes I don't like cold despite the place where we live. That room is often around 60F when the a/c has been running a lot.

Slice of key lime pie on a Southern Daylight plate, please.
Haven't felt so well lately. The extent of my trains activities has been relegated to watching vids of them, which is enough for a fix.
Hope everyone is doing well. Enjoyed seeing some pics posted in here.
Cheers! Rob
We had a flyover this morning. The planes went right down the street in front of my house. First was a B-25, then a P-51. After a few minutes there was a pair of cargo planes, and finally three lighter aircraft including an old biplane.
I love to see vintage aircraft still in the air.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Kevin and Ray,
The trees are beautiful!
Unfortunately, we are losing our beloved mountain ash. Last year it was a bit sparse. This spring it only has leaves on about 15% of the branches. We are disappointed because it is where all of our birds gather before they hit the feeders. We are debating leaving part of the trunk and some of the lower branches in place so the birds still have a place to land. I'm trying to figure out how to do that artistically but I'm not having much success. We have not decided if we are going to replace it. The yard has become quite shady over the years. Dianne would like to get more sun back there so she can grow some different plants. Maybe we will go with artificial perches of some sort.
Heartland Division CB&QDave ... Sounds like you have plans to work on your layout. Good.
I have a few more bits and pieces to buy, like longer bolts for the castors, but I will be cutting wood as soon as the sheet of 19mm plywood for the workbench gets here. The order desk guy suggested it might show up on Friday afternoon but it didn't. I phoned the order desk on Saturday morning to see when it was scheduled for only to discover that it hadn't been scheduled at all! The gentleman with whom I have been dealing is not running on all cylinders!
York1If this garage makeover was being done normally, it would be a three-day job. With me in retirement mode, it will be a three-week job. It doesn't help to have a coffee break every half-hour.
