100th post and multiple scales
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 6, 2005 4:13 AM
Well, here it is, my 100th post. Would't have guessed it would be so short a time, but I like talking about trains! and sometimes I even have an opinion!

Just wondering how many have multiple scales, let us know what scales you model in, or collect.

My principle interest is in On3 finescale, and Lionel postwar erea. I also enjoy some O std. that we run on other folks layouts, HO for the same reason, and I even have an old battery powered readio controlled G scale loco and 3 cars that will run on ANY g track...it carries its own power! I have no N scale, Z scale, or huge scale like live steam ride behind.

Cheers everyone!

Congratulations on the 100th Jennifer. It is great to see a lady with so much excitement for trains.

I have found that G scale seems to be the only scale that regularly attracts women. In our local area, the G scale club has many couples. Down at our museum, on the 3 railers I saw a whole family, dad, mom, son, enjoying their time each running a train. You are the first in HO that I have seen, ok you've just been here typing, but you get the idea. What was it that got you into trains, your husband or were you into trains before him ?

Terry you are always great at making us newbies feel good being here. Thank you.

Forgot to type about the scales. [:o)] I have HO, one layout in the garage 4 x 8, turning into 6 x 10 when it is warm enough. In the house my son and daughter have a 3 x 5 double level layout with ez track for Thomas the train and friends. I was looking to add a z scale in a circus add on like a toy train ride you used to see. But I may go with a O gauge layout and use the HO as an add on down the road. Z is so much money and its tough to see. O is awesomely large, and can go outdoors. Might even change to G if I get really ambitious.

Jennifer, congrats on your 100th post. As for multiple scales, it is whatever your time and budget allow. I gave up all scales except 3 rail O more than 20 years ago, even though I like all trains.

Congratulations on your 100th post and secnd star!!!!!!!! You'll be getting many more stars before you know it!!!!

As for the scales/gauges I'm into, I have vintage prewar and postwar O, S and OO gauge toy trains and HO scale trains. I also have a Lionel standard gauge set some of those G scale battery powered trains like the one you have.

Most of our model RR friends have ONLY one scale. It's fun to see that some of you can't contain the fun to just one ratio!!!!!!! We don't feel so alone now .......[ just kidding, that's never been a problem!

Cheers

HO scale only, due to finite funds.

Having said that, tomorrow my 6-yr-old daughter will probably say to me "Dad, when are you gonna build us one of those big garden train setups?" (We have a 2-acre lot and very easygoing neighbors...)

i'm into HO, mostly because that's what i inherited from my father and have found that it is a good fit for me... tried N scale with some stuff I inherited from my grandfather, but was too small for me unfortunately

Hi Jennifer, congratulations on making your 100 post!!! I am very happy to see a woman in the hobby, I only know of one other, she works in a HS in Intervale, New Hampshire.
My main scale is HO, but I also have an N guage. I trying to decide if I want to include this in my layouts. It started out as a train in our Dept56 Christmas Village display, but the scale was wrong for Dept56 buildings.

Regards,

I'm not really sure congratulations are in order: it just indicates how much time you spent on the computer asking/answering questions instead of working on your railroad. I've found since joining this forum, I spend less time building a railroad and more on the computer. As for the scales question, mostly HO, some Sn3, some O scale(2 rail), a little more 1:29, and of course living in Chiloquin, OR, 7.5" gauge.

Woo Hoo, another west coaster, hi Bob ! Anyways down here in SoCal, its uncharacteristically cold and wet. The garage with the layout is really cold. This computer sits in a nice, warm, livingroom, with coffe only steps away, a warm dog at my feet, and a Thomas the train double height track layout. And Thomas can come off and a real train can go on. And we now have a cool train sound system, and its nice, and warm, and coffee is only steps away.............
