One of our club members brought a Rapido Royal Hudson to the club last night. Unfortunately, he had a couple of problems. First, the sound would not work (it had been working at the dealer). Then it threw a traction tire which got caught in the rods and stretched so it wouldn't stay on. He is going to take it back to the dealer instead of attempting to fix it himself.
The detail is impressive!

Ran RH #2 for a couple or more hours this morning and she was smooth as silk. Jason has a great sense of humour programming a couple of "silly sounds" into it, the British contingent of the family should get a real kick out of it.
Now I really am going to get on the John Deere.

BATMAN betamax I got an email from my enabler/dealer this afternoon stating the Royal Hudson #2852 is waiting for me on the ready track. Why did you choose #2852? I got 2850 for obvious reasons and am waiting for 2861 to show up. I got 2861 because it ran out of Vancouver.

It ran in this area. So it made sense to have one the would have matched the prototype for Eastern Ontario/Chalk River Sub operations.
I already have the 2860 in brass.

Mine got there Tuesday. I'll bet they're swamped when a new product hits the streets. Well, my little people passengers will just have to settle for a substitute engine until Royalty returns.
I'm looking forward to playing around with the Loksound 5, too! That second whistle choice, the B-C Excursion whistle sounded beautiful, gotta try that one out.
The GREEN class lights are sure bright! Looks like frog eyes on steroids.

Just watched James Wright's review of it - wow, that is one nice loco. Too bad I have no use for one of those. It really does show off what a Loksound decoder can do. That bell is absolutely amazing, and so are the whistles. Rod clank when coasting, too.

Some years ago the Life-Like Proto Heritage 0-8-0 was designed with a very similar connector. I thought this was the "wave of the future" and would be an excellent solution to the fussy multi-pin harness plug. Alas, no. I guess after a while the plug separated too easily.
I have two of these 0-8-0s and they seem to snap together pretty securely.
MTH uses a tender drawbar pin arrangement and with their setup there can be only two, and I guess some have four, electrical circuits through the drawbar.

My BS 4-4-0 shorted out because the wires connecting the tender to the loco were dragging on the track and wore through. Live and learn all my steamers have been inspected for that poor design flaw. They should all use the Rapido system.
Well I sent off my RH to Rapido. We will see how this goes. It was $46.08 for a box and postage with insurance. They said they would include some goodies on the return to cover the shipping cost. Maybe I'll get a couple of these.

I was at my dealer today, he had two (2!) DC versions on the shelf. He said a box appeared the other day from Rapido with the Royal Hudsons, without warning. The schemes he got were the BC scheme.
Rapido is probably doing the smaller run paint schemes first and shipping them, with the large volume ones to follow.
As he said, a package just appeared one day when he went to pick them up, without any warning.
The package itself is another Rapido work of art.

I belong to a couple of Canadian FB groups and they are getting rave reviews from all. I boxed mine up and will get it in the mail today if I can, I decided not to wait until I receive my second one as it is suppose to be another ten days.

I have one on pre-order, but the dealer hasn't called yet about it. I'll have to ask when I visit this weekend.
Been so long I've forgotten which one I ordered. I do have the Tenshodo version of 2860, so it isn't that one. The one I ordered operated locally, there is even of picture of it on its side after derailing.
My aunt's grandfather was at the throttle of Hudson #2850 in 1939, when it was in its Royal colours.
Wow, hopefully for Rapido this is not a trend, that's a pretty high failure rate?
But, it is outside what I model, I don't buy stuff outside the layout theme, and at this point I'm not motivated to spend that much on a single loco.
Still waiting for Rapido to make something I really need..........

Oh, 2860, the BC Rail unit, of course. A package of memories there; as a 5 year old I rode on the 1:1 version with my grandmother, mere weeks before she passed. Been waiting for my chance to model 2860 ever since.

I got my first one and it broke after about 30 minutes of break in on the layout. The sound started to fail and then it stopped altogether. The boiler was very hot to touch. Rapido said to send it back and they will repair it or give me a new one. I told them I will wait until I get my second one and make sure it is OK before I send the first one back. They said that would be fine.
I sure hope I get it fixed or a replacement as I have done a fair bit of homework on putting a Royal Train behind it. I would be rather disheartened if I lose out on the Royal Blue one after all these years. The dealer had my money for the two for over two years.
It is a beautiful engine and was far superior to anything else I own so I am really hoping the situation gets resolved and I am confident it will.

Mine had a minor mishap. Somehow the eccentric rod got caught in the eccentric crank on the right side while running slowly in reverse.

Rapido suggested I return the locomotive to them because they want to see exactly how this could have happened. In my estimation it is possible one of the pivot pins was not pressed home fully and the link was a little loose OR the eccentric rod was slightly bent toward the crank?
Either way, Rapido is standing behind their work and making things right.
For the half-hour or so I had the locomotive running it was great! I didn't even get to play with the Loksound-5 decoder as I was still engaged in slow-speed back-and-forth break-in runs.
Got it. Love it. Typical Rapido in that it’s heavily detailed and just about flawless in its execution. Mine’s still got new-loco stutter (only about 30 mins of running on it as of yet), but otherwise a good runner.
Been wondering why no one here has been talking about it...
Looking at maybe picking one up this weekend and would like opionions on how it is?
