who's going to the train show in Springfield, Mass
Posted by streettrains on Friday, December 31, 2004 7:21 AM
I know i am[:D], finally after going a few years and buying this & that, I can now focus more. Since my layout is going along good & learning/relearning alot, I think I will spend more money at this one...

So who's going? Maybe we will run into each other!!![8]

I know I want to look for some Providence & Worcester, Guilford, CSX, Penn Central, NYC, Housatonic stuff... and maybe get some more info on what DCC unit I want to buy.....

can't wait...[^]

Scary to think it's only a month away...

Yep, I"ll be there with the South Shore Model Railway Club tables. We don't have a portable layout, but we do sell club cars, hand out flyers, etc. We are usually over by Overland and Tucker's Hobbies in the Better Living Center. I'll also be helping out a friend of mine at the Microscale booth (a fellow SSMRC member). The whole gang of us (from the SSMRC) heads out on Friday afternoon, and stays the weekend. We should be having dinner and hoisting a few at the Picadilly Pub on Friday & On The Border (IIRC) on Saturday (all up the river from the Big E).

I will be there for sure. I have been going for the past 4 years with the wife. As I will be building my 1st layout, I will be interested in construction techniques, wiring (DCC), and most of all scenery construction and materials.

I'm going on Saturday. Can't miss the Train club's normal meeting on Sunday. Does anyone know if the Potholes in CT by North Haven (I think) have been fixed. Last year a bunch of the booth owners were delayed half a day or so because they blew tires when they hit those suckers. The good part is that CT paid for the repairs. See you there!!!

Sure, I'll look for you, Parker. [:)] Do you have a module? I can't remember if you told me that or not... You guys should be in Building #2, I think it's the Young Building? Anyways, I'm rarely at our club tables, as I'm usually having way too much fun talking to everyone I know (and since I've been doing this for a decade, that's more than a few people; I swear the first half of Saturday I'm just catching up with the guys I only see once each year at Springfield). BTW, if I ask for "Parker" at the M&P layout, will they know who I'm talking about?

Well, you only broke about every rule imaginable over there. [:p] I'm surprised your computer didn't melt from the heat coming frm New Jersey... [:D][;)]

If crowds are a concern to anyone, go Sunday. There is usually a few thousand fewer attendees on Sunday (provided the weather was ok on Saturday).

Hey Paul

I do not have a module because I have a home layout but I will be there. They all know me as Al and they will know who I am if you ask for me.
As for over there Yes I was at arms for sure. I made sure of it too. The one thing that started it was the post about Where to find black fgures at then it blew up from posters. I wanted to make it hard so I went all out. I had fun though. I am still ver there too. In fact there was a cop from Boston Name CNW Rail. That was me. I was having so much fun.

This forum is great though. No real crying about every post and fighting about certain post as over there. Thats good. But Anyway I wil be there both days Sat and Sun.

The web site is: http://www.amherstrail.org/

I hope some of you will stop by the City Classics display in the main hall and say hello. We're along the wall near Greenway Products. We used to be next to Stewart too, but that will change.

Are you kidding? I've been attending for 11 years and wouldn't miss the show for "all the tea in China". Well, maybe.

I attend both days of the show. The first day, I look for stuff that's hard to find. With all the dealers, I usually can find what I want. Last year, I also spent Saturday talking to guys offering air brushes and supplies. This show is a great place to do comparison shopping and get great ideas and input. Basically, I do all my buying on Saturday.

Sunday, I just bask in the "sunshine" of all the train layouts and talk to guys about how they created a special scene or how they made that great looking tree. That's how I discovered the Scenic Express tree-making kits.....by talking to guys at the Amherst Show. I also take notes when I see a scene I really like so I can incorporate something similar on my layout.

If you haven't attended this show and are able to this year, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised. Pace yourself and enjoy.

Oh, another tip I can offer....I usually need a break by lunchtime and therefore go back to my car and drive out to get lunch (the food at the show is just okay...hot dogs etc. that are over-priced) . There are some great restuarants nearby....there's a Chinese place almost across the street and a nice Italian sandwich shop right by the entrance. Going out for lunch is a relaxing break, allows me to put all my purchases in my car and then I go back to the show, refreshed.

Hope you enjoy the show.

I'll be going again this year on Sat. Does naybody know which vendors (if any) that sell the Mashima motors? I'm looking for them to repower some Athearn locos. I'll also be looking for decoders.

Even though I'm from San Francisco, looks like I will be there, on my way back from business trip. I'm arriving Friday night, attending the NorthEast NTrak Convention that night and Sat night at the Garden Hilton Hotel (Sam Posey of "Playing with Trains" author is speaking) - and will be at the train show on Saturday. Maybe will see some of you there!

Hi John, I will be there with the wife on Saturday, real early, it "will" be crowded. I will have a Patriots Div champs hat on (what else being from Mass), wife on one side and shopping bags on the other.

I'm going, i posted the same question on the Garden railways forum.

I have too many things i want to see, i doubt i will get to see them all. bringing the kids really makes things tough sometimes.

but i have to remember, they are the reason why i got re-started in this hobby.

I'll be going. This is my first trip to a "REAL" train show.

I'm pretty excited about it! I got my Amtrak T-Shirt all ready to go. I only wear it when I am either taking a long distance Amtrak trip or for occasions like this. This is going to be the second time I wear this shirt since 1999 when I went to Northlandz.

I'll be there at 9am..it should be a great show. Some people don't like the crowds, but this is one of the biggest train shows in the country, certainly the biggest in the entire Northeast. Over 4 acres in three large buildings. All the vendors will be there. It WILL be cold so be prepared. At 9 am tomorrow morning it will only be in the low single numbers.
