Well, my immediate plan is to find employment . . . .then I can enjoy MRing again. My goals for 2005 would be to get the benchwork up on the new layout, assemble, paint and decal a bunch of BB hoppers and continue with a half dozen structure kitbashes that are in various stages of completion.

Hmmm where do i begin, i agreed to build a module for the local train club to be used in there trake a train to school program.And i with out a dought picked probably the worse thing to model on it Locomotive assembly plant,at least it is a corner module 4x8 still will be hard to make look realistic in such a small space.Need to fini***earing down my layout and begin to plan the bench work on new one.need to get thru all the red tape insurance stuff in order for the club layout to be used to bring in groups of children from under privledged families and let them do some train running.I actually hope there is enough interest that there will be groups of kids.Besides that not much just running trains at the club as much as possible.

Finalize my layout design, purchase additional track needed, lay roadbed and track, wire for DCC, purchase DCC - in that order. (Okay, I'll confess. I might break down and purchase the DCC system sooner than that. Can someone please turn off that big white light?...)

DCC, and the DCCification of the collection of locos I have. Especially interesting will be the 1960s vintage brass. Fun stuff!

My train-related goals are:

1) To finish making my 2-car garage somewhat climate-controlled;

2) To actually get ALL of the track wired and laid PROPERLY (i.e. no kinks, bulges, or dips) on my layout;

3) To get decoders installed in 15 of my "worth saving" locos;

4) To figure out how to program and use my Digitrax Chief system;

5) To not allow myself to be talked into scratchbuilding anymore huge steel-mill structures --- had enough of THAT!!

Next step for Gloetown is to fit the foam boards, then dividing the project in 2' X2' areas. Following this start laying roadbed and track and then................. who knows where I'll end up at this time next year.

Getting some of this scenery done. I need to add a few more track electrical feeders. Hopefully I get the weathering of mein Lionel Challenger finished before Feb. And I would like to sell this brand new BLI PRR J1, which I have no use for.

Someone should dig this thread up again in December and see how we all did! :)

My plans:

Clean out back half of basement. Get building permit from city. Stud walls, wire basement, begin benchwork...

Also: Shoot plenty of video/pics of the racetrack (the prototype I'm modeling) between Chicago and Aurora.

I'm printing this thread off and posting it in my workshop...

Paint some more background, add 11' by 16" section of benchwork, lay track, buy some more wiring supplies, wire 2 cab setup, no DCC for my layout at least for several years, and in between spend some time assembling structure or rolling stock kits. Plenty to keep me busy. Happy New Years all.

2005?

Well, the Muddy Creek RR consists of a sawmill and its yards, a wye and tracks that dead end with no way to get logs down from the mountain woodlots and no way to get sawn lumber to town. Correcting that is the first goal of 2005.

Next is to build the mountain village of Rankena, a company town built by the sawmill owners but with a new industry, the largest tofu packing plant east of the Mississippi River.

3rd phase is Tiger Hill, the 7'x14' iron mining and blast furnace section, loosely based on the mines at Lyon Mountain in the Northern Adirondacks.

And, if there is time left in the year, my namesake, the town of Muddy Creek needs to be built, with its paper mill, business district, residential areas, rail yards and the interchanges with the NY Central and the D&H.

During the above layout construction, the other model RR venture is continuing to develop a series of laser-cut N Scale structures with which to pay for the losing proposition of running a railroad through the Adirondack Mountains in the early 1900's.

Modest goals, I admit.

Current plans are as follows:

o - Finish 'jute' panel above the backdrop to hang masonite railroad logo's in the train room.
o - modify staging area and one small town(about 25' of layout down one wall.
o - modify the engine service area to accept larger engines.
o - massive scenery program(finish it up).
I have been on vacation and the DCC 'rewire' is almost complete. I did the DCC thing in the mid 90's by just making cab #2 DCC. Now I have run a new 'bus' around the layout and have divided the layout into 4 'power districts'. The old panels will now be removed and a 'work area' will replace each one for the card system stuff.

Keep working on the Sierra Nevadas, think very seriously about putting a holding yard on the other side of the garage (which will leave me about 3-1/2 feet of aisle space from the garage door to the music room door) where I can store at least HALF of my reefer fleet. Which means a lift-bridge about four feet long from the layout to the yard shelf and that should be fun--HAH! Oh yes, and try and explain to my friends just WHY that ATSF 2-10-2 that I have on order from BLI managed to sneak into Rio Grande territory.

1) Hopefully, not get "sidetracked" too often and manage to complete a lot of scenery, towns, industry. Now every time I start on the scenery, I conveniently find something more fun or interesting to do. [;)]

2) Back off on buying things I don't need yet.

3) Have a good operating plan in place.

4) Be able to have interesting and fun operating sessions on my layout with fellow MRR's.

5) Complete at least one thing before starting on something else.[(-D]

Finished my yard this past week, so now it's time to lay out the mainline and staging tracks. Figure that'll take a couple of months overall (still have to build the sub-roadbed for most of it). Then on to starting the scenery.

How does pulling up 1/2 my layout and laying down a new configuration sound?

Its not too bad, its only track on cork right now, and I have been experimenting with the layout for a while now trying to maximize its potential is the very limited space I have. I much prefer the newest set up

   Have fun with your trains

For 2005 my plans are to get the rest of the track I already have down on my N scale layout wired and operational.Then I want to get at least another 12' of track down and wired .

I am also hopeing to get the industrial park done now that ATLAS will be producing usable switchers.

Beyond that I want to get a good start on the HOn30 layout complete with a connection to my Standard gauge modern railroad.[:D]

Oh nothing too ambitious, just:
- try to build a new train room in an old concrete water tank about 20' x 5'
- build a JMRI CTC control panel on an old Pentium 1 talking to my 5 DS54s and 18 Tortoises, coupled to a traditional switchs'n'lights panel just to keep the visitors happy (and so I can evaluate which I like best)
- finish building an ultra-prototypical transistor DC throttle for a friend
- get the Walthers turntable to work
- make a Tillig double slip switch DCC ready
- fit Soundtraxx in an HO Spectrum 4-4-0
- be one of the early adopters of Surroundtraxx if it ever comes out
- design and build a hidden transfer-table staging yard
- research, design and model a freelanced New Zealand freezing works ("meat packers" to you Yanks)
- build a little N scale layout just for fun
- remotor a Tenshodo brass 4-8-4
- build a desktop display of Soundtraxx and JMRI in time for next November's take-a-train-to-work day
- build 20 stockcar kits
- ... oh and finish laying track on the layout

Guess I like to set myself stretch goals [:D][:D][:D][sigh]

Just getting back in, so I have the whole layout to do, or at least start on. But if I don't stop browsing this forum I'll still be here in a year.

I have torn up 1/2 of my layout and need to get it redisgned And rebuilt and wired up. I need to go thru my storage closet and find two of my MRC power packs to use to power lights on the layout. I lose more things in that closet, maybe it needs cleaned and reorganized,but that takes time that I could be running trains.

2005 will be the year of having track actually laid and wired. I'm only giving myself two non get it running projects as I've taken way too much abuse from the plywood pacific's lack of track.It's a wonderfull display of completed buildings laid out row on row so it's time to make the HO scale stores and buisnesses earn their keep [swg] oh it wood be nice if a train or trolley or two may make an appearance on some operating track this year as well.Well I'm off to the trainroom see you in 12 months[(-D] trolleyboy

1) Replace the garage door with a wall.

2) Install better lighting.

3) Find someone to build my benchwork. (did that today)

4) See if there are any funds left to switch to DCC.

5) Play more, work less! [:D]
