I am starting Weekend Photo Fun again. I hope I am doing this well enough to satisfy everyone. This is the best thread of the week.

I am going to begin WPF this week with a couple of pictures of boxcar projects I built just to test lettering scheme ideas for upcoming projects. I like to test new schemes with "throw-away" train cars first.
The first car is a Train Miniature plug door boxcar. I have never lettered a car with STRATTON AND GILLETTE across the top of the car like a banner such as this before. I wanted to see how it would look. The second car is an El-Cheapo R-T-R train set car that was in a collection I bought. I stripped off the paint trying a new method which did not work out well. This train car has an odd smell now. I wanted to see how the "Fast Freight" script looked on a double door. I like it.
Please share what you have been working on, or a photo of a recent project, or just a favorite scene. I love this thread. All are welcome, and encouraged, to participate.

SeeYou190I stripped off the paint trying a new method which did not work out well.
I recently stripped paint off a Kadee PS-1 using "SuperClean" and I'm really impressed with how well that stuff works for paint stripping.
Great scene, Garry. I like football specials, too. I was always interested in the specials that the PRR ran to the Army-Navy game near Philly. Sometimes over twenty trains were operated!
Excellent work on the roundhouse, Mike — a very neat job on the wiring and the "traditional" green enamel lamp shades look perfect!
RR_MelGarry I wasn’t into heavy weight cars until recently, I saw a YouTube video with a SP Cab Forward towing a heavy weight passenger (SP Lark) between Bakersfield and LA and that got me going.
Hi, Mel. One of the reasons you see the cars below that I'm working on is that these are "modernized" heavyweights. I wish more manufacturers would produce some of these "betterment" cars. Many railroads, and Pullman, too, would rebuild cars with air conditioning and newer windows.
First — some "old news", the DL&W tower has a tile roof and the beginnings of the concrete color. I wasn't sure of that color as the instructions only say to paint it green. Most of the tile roofs I've seen are terra cotta color.

There is still one of these towers standing in Scranton, Pa. near Steamtown. Sure enough, the roof is green. The tiles must be glazed.

This week I was busy in the paint shop with some brass passenger cars that have been awaiting completion for far too long!

This combine was the most recent addition to the roster. I found it on Ebay for a pretty reasonable price. I like combines and there aren't too many available in HO.

Here's my modernized NKP diner-lounge. (don't tell anyone but it is actually a model of an Erie diner, but sure close enough, for me) Both the blue and white were mixed by eye. The white has just a drop or two of black in it to tone it down a bit. Scalecoad doesn't have an NKP blue that I'm aware of. This is B&O Royal blue with a bit of white added.

NKP had one car that was very close to the one I'm doing with window spacing closer to what my model has rather than the one in the photo above.

Here's a pair of Erie 1000 series coaches, also modernized heavyweights. I have a lot of decal work ahead of me. I really dislike doing the stripes

Kevin, Thanks for the WPF start-up. Considering the nice effort you've put into the boxcars I can't think of them as El Cheapos, I like the lettering on the double-door.
Garry, Good bucolic scene, really like how the backdrop blends in so nicely.

All quiet in my tinplate toy train town of Talheim. Work is resting for the moment, but some more gardening is expected to take place shortly.

And just for fun I painted up and old Rail Line D&RGW 3000-series boxcar I built in high school (it needed a better paint job anyway) after Malcolm Furlow's San Juan Central RR boxcar #46. This car appears in several photos in his series and book. Mine's a little less beat up, but even in Malcolm's world the 46 was one of the more "pristine" of the SJC's rolling stock. It might have been SJC's only car without a significant swayback.

Mike, very good work on building that roundhouse, we have a lot of those going up right now.
Ed, beautiful paint jobs on those cars, but I will know that's not an actual NKP car!
Peter, two very nice scenes, especially like the gas station.
My Bowser C-430's with a Flexivan Train on the Strongsville Model Railroad Club Layout, we had an open house last weekend in coordination with the Srongsville Historical Society's Harvest Festival. Best attendance by the public ever.

It has been kind of a quiet weekend in WPF so far. It is still the weekend, please keep the updates, pictures, and posts coming.
Garry: We don't have football specials down here, but once a year the SEMINOLE GULF runs a "Rodeo Special" to Arcadia. I like your train. It sure fits in that scene nicely.
Mike: Thank you for the roundhouse update. It sure is a fine model.
Ed: Those green tiles sure do look unusual to me as well. In the prototype picture they actually look quite shiny.
Peter: The filling station is simply amazing. I love your work.
Ulrich: That is quite a pleasing scene on your layout.
Dave: Those pictures of the narrow gauge operations are beautiful.
Rick: Two solid black GE locomotives together like that just look so powerful.
Harrison: I like the underpass project. I also use all kinds of excuses just to add small bridges.

Running a bit late this week, but that is railroading.
I finished a Branchline HW single window coach, BM 4623. It is one of those orphan kits I mention from time to time; donated to Boothbay Railway Village partially completed. In this case almost all of the work was done, except for interior details and the trucks were missing. I called Atlas customer service about buying replacement trucks, and they sent a set at no cost. They did not have to, the kit was made long before they bought Branchline. Great customer service!!

Now that I actually have two work tables it is crazy how much I am getting to work on. I have my "assembly" desk in the "dorm room" in Tampa. Then I have my painting & finishing desk at home.
Production is in notch 8 right now.
