Heartland Division CB&QTimmy .... That's a nice looking freelanced caboose.
Thank's ! It started out life as a Model Die Casting combination car ...... then I started "hacking / Slashing" my way through it .... and before I could stop myself, There was more stripwood than plastic !
The coupula ( yeah, I know I spelled That wrong ) Is all wood, exept for the roof. That's still the original kit piece. So are the truck's ( sort of) and 1/2 of the body. The rest is "bit's and piece's" from wherever I could find them or carve them myself. You wouldn't believe the amount of part's I made ,... that are STILL in the box !
Rust...... It's a good thing !
Evening diners,
Went to turn the TV to the usual "Rat Pack" channel from SonicTap on DirecTV and found that AT&T/DirecTV has changed the music service to "Music Choice" and the Rat Pack channel is gone as well as "Beautiful Instrumentals"
I'm extremely aggravated if you can't tell!
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Good evening .
Brent ... Your photo of the sailboat, the lighthouse, and the snow covered mountains is beautiful.... It makes me think it would be nice to go back and visit British Columbia again.
CN Charlie .... I, too, wish some of the old timers would come bacl to the Diner.
Timmy .... That's a nice looking freelanced caboose.
Ed ..... In WPF, you asked about NKP Car Company. They produce passenger car kits with brass sides. Other componants are plastic or resin castings. The cars are prototypically correct for various railroads. Several are PRR and NYC. ... Fun to build. ... http://www.nkpcarco.com/index.html
Everybody .... Happy Model Railroading

Flo, could I get a Chocolate shake? .... with some Malt tosed in it?
Good afternoon all ...
Flo, .. could I get a nice fat Roast Beef sandwich.
I'm sorry to hear about all the bad weather .... currently 77 deg. here at Demon's Hollow .... ( please dont hate me )
NWP-SWP , I posted a few shot's in the "Freelance" thread for you. It's been year's since I worked on my combination Caboose..... pulling it out of storage make's me want to shovel off my bench and put it at the front of the line of project's.
Anybody else think this need's to be finished ?
By the way: Steven, have you ever heard of Electric Light Orchastra ?
If I were marooned on an island, and could have only one album to listen to, it would be ELO's "Out Of The Blue". ( It's a double album ) Not a bad song on it !
I'll be in the corner .... with my sandwich .... for the next hour or two.........
BATMANEd, you deserve the United States Post Office highest medal and a few free stamps.
"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"
...but a little muddy grass along the side of the driveway
Just getting my package close to the front door would be reward enough, Brent.
I've had my share of critters that have been dragged in by the pets. They think they're going to get rewarded for bringing home a prize catch!
Pork! It's what's for dinner Same here, 1½" thick chops, German red cabbage and potato-cheese pierogies in sauteed onions. My apologies to any vegetarians out there...
Cheers, Ed
Ed, you deserve the United States Post Office highest medal and a few free stamps.
Walked for hours as it is such a beautiful day, the John Deere will be coming out sooner than usual this year as the grass is taking off.
Forgot to mention that late last night my wife went into the kitchen and noticed a trail of blood and thought one of the dogs had injured themselves. Turned out one of them had caught a rather large rabbit and had snuck it in earlier right under her nose. They then hid it under the dog bed for a midnight snack I guess. They never got to eat it though as they got caught with the goods.
My favourite version of Classical Gas was this one. My older Sister came home with this album and I had to have a Guitar. I got the music and learned to play the song, not the guitar. Eventually, I learned to play enough songs that I decided I could actually play the guitar. I often walk to the beat of a different drummer.
The kid was supposed to come home for nine days for spring reading break. He changed his flight and is now going to Montreal with friends for three nights and then flying out of Montreal home. He has two days of medical/ Dentist/ Ortho etc. Now he just got booked for moviestar work for two days. I will be his chauffeur just to spend some time with him. He prefers to be driven when he is busy anyway as he has lots to take care of when he is home and lots on his mind.
They rented a huge house for next year in Ottawa just a short walk from the University. There is five of them renting it and my kid sprung for the master BR with full ensuite. The rest pay on a sliding scale depending on the size of the BR they get.
I have to go put a pork (bone in) roast in. It is pretty big and I have no idea who is coming for dinner as I have been out. Time to open a bottle of something good and grab the garlic press.
Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.
Brent

Hello Folks!
CNCharlieEd, I asked my wife to translate that postcard.
Thank you, Charlie! One hundred-two years ago... amazing. I just love to read those "moments in time" like that. Did the writer ever imagine that we would be discussing their goings-on... on the internet! Handwriting was a practised art form back then.
I hope things smooth out on your roller coaster ride soon...
angelob6660Ed- It's good to heard that the roundhouse will be staying.
Thanks, Angelo. It sure looks like the site of a demolished roundhouse, alright! Better things to come, though

It is a grey, foggy day here with about a foot of remaining snow on the ground. The Pileated Woodpecker stopped by for his suet snack. That always brightens my day when I see the birds appreciate the food we put out for them
The US Mail delivery van got stuck in the driveway (actually she was about four-feet off the driveway, that may have contributed to getting stuck ) so I got the tractor out and wrapped a nylon sling around the rear spring shackle and dragged the van back on to the road.
It was a delivery from MB Klein so it was all worthwhile!
Anyone hear from Galaxy lately? Haven't seen him for the past three weeks or so...
That's about all I have at the moment.
Evening Diners,
Ed- It's good to heard that the roundhouse will be staying.
Called the post office about a delayed package and they will investigate that happened within the past three days.
I ordered two items from the same guy and he shipped them in two different boxes instead of one. So the other one will come in soon.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
Afternoon diners,
Went to the club did some track cleaning got about 100 ft of mainline and it's associated industries which are about half a dozen each having 2-4 tracks some having more...
Still not done though still have to to some more track and cars Tuesday...
Good Afternoon,
Not much happening in the Great White North. I haven't been doing anything with the RR for some time. I just can't seem to get motivated.
Ed, I asked my wife to translate that postcard. If I remember what she said it was a note to say that the writer was distressed to hear the news from Jules. Also that the letters all arrived at once in February. They also say they think future letters wil arrive on a more timely basis. There is a request to not give the card to the home of the writer. That is about it . We have visited the Saone et Loire area a few times in France and it is very beautiful.
Sure wish we could hear from some of the 'old timers' such as Cape Jim and Amanamedic but perhaps I am just feeling nostalgic now. Not a very happy time in our house. I sometimes feel like I'm on a roller coaster.

BATMANI like Mannhein Steamrollers version of Classical Gas.

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Good morning, it is a stunning day with temps hovering around freezing, a little breakfast, and another long walk is in order. I think I will also get out the chainsaw today and start cleanup from the last storm. We had some branches come down that are 10" in diametre and I can't budge them.
Ray, that Shepton High School Orchestra is awesome, especially that kid on the Cello, what a talent. The music director must be very proud of what he has done with those kids.
My mom taught piano, organ, and voice. She sang in various operas when I was young and I spent many a day at the Queen Elisabeth Theatre in Vancouver while rehearsals were going on. The guy in the control room use to let me push the buttons to open and close the curtain and put the scenery flies up and down. Only in rehearsal though. My biggest regret is I never took advantage of having a gifted talent in the house and use the opportunity to learn.
I like Mannhein Steamrollers version of Classical Gas. I learned to play that over forty years ago and now it is a rare day when my arthritis lets me play it. I watched my mom slowly lose her ability to play the piano because of arthritis and she was an amazing talent. We still have her Grand piano and it will be my daughters when she graduates and gets a home of her own.
It's Saturday and that usually means a crowd in for dinner. I think I need to go get another case of wine and a bottle of rum. My kid wants me to take a bunch of his old video games and equipment in to EB games as they are having a PlayStation credit day. They give $25.00 for old controllers and $ for old games. The kid then uses it in Ottawa and downloads new stuff.
I think I will be bad and cook up bacon and eggs before I go for our walk. I'll just do an extra couple of KMs.
All the best to all.
Mor.... Hmmmm... Ahem! Afternoon folks!
I slept in this morning with my sweet little kittie cat snug in my arms. Manét is a cuddler. His brother used to be my foot warmer on cold nights. He no longer jumps up on the bed after a few bad experiences (like getting caught bewteen the matress and the foot of the bed).
NWP SWPJust a bit of trivia on the group that played that song I posted the band's leader and name sake is a survivor of leukemia and is now the founder of a children's and adolescents cancer charity...
That is great, NWP SWP! It is great to be able to give back like that. My wife died of Leukemia 30 years ago, or should I say died of the cure.... She (we) opted for a Bone Marrow Transplant which was fairly new at that time. Unfortunately her sister's bone marrow, which was thought to be a perfect match for her, ended up causing Graft vs Host Disease, and she refused to go back into the hospital in time for them to get it under control (If it was even possible). Today they have a lot more knowledge and can be more proactive in those cases.
Currently 38°F with occasional "wintery mix" here in the Finger Lakes. I need to get over to the grocery store and get a couple things I forgot to get yesterday. I could wait until tomorrow, but need to get out of the house for a bit, I think. I start the "prep" for the rotorouter procedure on Monday.... Ick! Procedure will be sometime on Tuesday. They won't tell me what time until Monday afternoon...

My plans were to do some chainsawing and then model railroading. Note to self, if one is predisposed to having some hand tremor, that is the wrong order to do those things. So I am watching the luge on NBC sports channel.

Sailing? One hasn't lived till one has taken the Jet Boat Ferry from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island in October, in rough water no less! I must say I handled that one like a champ, but put me on a fast elevator at a tall hotel or something, I get dizzy spells for the rest of the day
Just a bit of trivia on the group that played that song I posted the band's leader and name sake is a survivor of leukemia and is now the founder of a children's and adolescents cancer charity...
Modeling front, nothing to report, oh wait one thing I got a 50"x32" map of the US of A it was on sale at Office Depot I plan to transcribe the routes of my railroad onto it...
Personal front, after a week and a half of insomnia my parents agreed to let me resume taking melatonin supplements to help me sleep! I feel better now!
Well I'll hang around a little longer before hitting the sack...
BATMANDave, when is your next trip to the West Coast. My old boss has a 36' sailboat that we go out on 12 months of the year. Sometimes we go before golf and sometimes after golf.
Boy, you really like to rub it in don't ya!!
Let's see? Golf all year round? I claim to have a 12 handicap. That is, I lose 12 balls and then I quit, usually before the third hole! Seriously, I haven't held a golf club in probably 25 years, and that would only have been the third or fourth time. My father in law was an avid golfer. He was the guy they had to shovel the driving range for. He took me out golfing - once! He even spoke to me civilly after that!
Sailing!?! Please pass the ginger Gravol pills! I'm afraid my sense of balance doesn't like constantly rising and falling, especially if I go below! I used to teach sailing when I was in university (at an Air Cadet camp of all places). Never bothered me then but we were in 14' boats on smooth water.
BATMANIs not your snow trained to stay on the mountains?
Actually our snow is mostly trained to stay in Barrie about 25 miles north of us. We have the benefit of the lake effect from Lake Simcoe. If Barrie gets 10" we will get maybe an inch. We have been here for 29 years and I can only recall maybe a half dozen really bad winter storms. That is if you stay south of Hwy 89 which is half way to Barrie. If you venture north of that be prepared for the worst driving conditions ever on a regular basis. White outs on Hwy 400 (goes from Toronto to north of Barrie) are frequent, and so are the accidents!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Steven looked it up on Canadian You-Tube.

Evenin' folks!
Janie I could sure use a hot cup of decaf right now... Thank you, Ma'am!
Aaaaaahhhhhhhhh! Brent, the performance was excellent!!! Especially for a bunch of High School Students! Wow! I'm impressed! I must say your tastes in Music are similar to mine! I turned up the speakers on my computer and also my hearing aids and listened to it during supper tonight... Do you, by any chance, like Mannheim Steamroller? I have Fresh Aire V on a USB Stick in the car at the moment....
I also have to say those puppies are absolutely adorable! I bet you will be sad to see them go..........
We only got about an inch and a half of Sn*w today. I went over and renewed my walking pass at the Fieldhouse (HWS College) and got in about 3/4 of a mile. Need to get back in the habit of doing much more hoofing if I am to lose the weight. Also went to the grocery store as I needed a few items for the special diet before the Colonoscopy on Tuesday. Of course I did forget to get the one thing I absolutely needed to get for the kitties. Pumpkin! Canned Pumpkin. I mix it with their canned food to help them not be constipated.... So I'll have to go back over tomorrow.
I also got some stuff done for the NMRA Division here and also mailed out my sheet to participate in the Central New York Division, "Op" 'till You Drop event in April. A full weekend of operations on some great layouts over in the Syracuse area. Manged to even find some time (while I was doing the wash) to do a bit of stuff on the layout.... Little by little!

BATMAN FRRYKid Snow, Snow, Snow! No, No, No! Yet more snow on top of what we already have. Of course, the other problem that results is Cold, Cold, Cold! Pretty much the entire state is under a winter storm warning: Did I mention the daffodils? No complaining, northern California, Oregon and Washington are beautiful. Admit it, the real reason you don't move is that, a warmer climate will cut into your model railroading time and you are all addicts.

As much as I hate the cold weather, Montana is my home and where I grew up. And I dislike big places.
Hobby Front: Got the roof walks for the NP caboose modified and installed. (Drilled new holes in the caboose roof to accomodate the existing mounting posts. The handrails are modified Athearn cupola caboose long roof walks. They are turned backwards as the stock ladder mounts are on the wrong side for the caboose I am bashing.) I still need to drill the holes for mounting the laddders and the brake wheels on the car.
The yard plans are coming along even with the snowy weather. I won't get the lumber for at least a week as the ranch is still snowed in. (The blade that is used to plow the snow out at the ranch is broken and is in to be welded. Edit: As I was typing this, Dad called me for a favor that I need to do as their computer is not working. I asked about the blade. It is fixed but it still needs to be reinstalled so I may still get the lumber on Monday and get it delivered on Tuesday.) However, I have all the track components either on order or on hand. It will take a bit of time to get all the lumber cut so the track doesn't need to be here for some time.
gmpullmanA nice, warm brandy will take the chill off.
How do I hold the brandy and run the snow blower at the same time? It takes two hands to run the thing! OH, I know, I'll have to get one of those touques with the bottles strapped to the side and a tube stuck in my mouth!
On the subject of pleasant surprises:
I was planning on blowing out the driveway this evening, but when Dianne got home she discovered that our new neighbour had almost completed shovelling the drive for us! She said she needed the exercise so she wouldn't have to give up eating donuts! This was the second time she had done the driveway for us. We didn't know who did it the first time. They chatted a bit and Dianne discovered that she and her husband are building a retirement home in Gatineau, Quebec. The snow we get here will be nothing compared to what they will get there!
Here I went to YouTube Canada and got the link from there... hopefully it works...
The songs title is "So Close" by Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness... goodluck!
Hi, Folks!
BATMANStill won't work Steven.
I'll bet it's probably something about copyright/licence restrictions for Canada. Works fine for me.

Still won't work Steven.
I am back already because kid#2 is back at the piano. Must have just been an intermission.
She just played this and better! (with more emotion) That's because she's my daughter.
Jimmy, I think Lost is the best TV show I have ever seen. That doesn't mean much though as I only really started watching TV since the Arthritis has grabbed hold of me.
BATMAN, here's the video again hopefully it works it's a really good song...
Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy Diners!
Flo, give the gang a and Rick a Pesip and Steven what he may like. All so leave a Stein outside for Ulrich.
See You Not the first time I missed spelled Stein, good chances it will not be the last either!
Got some good news for a change.
1 New Mortgage Company that bought that bought my loan is back loged with buying 40,000 laons from Bank Of America. They are giving us a 60 day graces period for them to get things sorted out. I was worried abut making a payment and it getting lost in the trasfer.
2 Got a letter last week from a Lawer Offices stating I owed the state of ILL $2.02 from 2010. They wanted $111.07 for that $2.02? Yes I was late but saved all the letters I sent to the state and found the check when I payed the state $200.00 to cover all of the late fees and lawer cost on July 8 2014.
3 PCM Y6-b is not totaly dead! Got her running fine today and made around 8 laps, then stalled again. Run her backwards, stalls then takes off, change to forward and she moves!
While I am afraid the gears are shot or drvers may be slipping and coming out of quarterd there is some hope!
Later, Ken
I hate Rust
that might be worth looking into. I'll see if I can find anything there. oh, and I love LOST, easily one of the best shows in the last 15-20 years. That, Sons of Anarchy, Hell On Wheels, the X files, and Eureka have been some of my favorites.
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Good afternoon from the beautiful East side of the Pacific basin just above the forty-ninth.
Just got back from a looooong walk with the dogs. Not sure how many KMs we walked, but was a lot. There was a movie crew in the park at sun up, however, they were packed up and gone by the time we got there, so have no idea what was being shot. There must have been thirty trucks there earlier, all gone in short order.
My daughter has got a lot of music out and set up on the Grand and is currently playing Moonlight Sinatra So here I sit listening, it may be a long post. She plays so beautifully. She really likes movie music and playing the music from lost is my favourite. I have my request in.
Jimmy, have you ever thought of a Government job? When I graduated High school a bunch of my friends were like me and were done with school. We still see each other, one is an air traffic controller and made $185,000.00 last year. The other started as a deckhand in the coast guard and is now a first officer on a smaller ship and he made $124,000.00 last year. I started working for the Feds right out of High school and looked at every job posting, in every department that came out every month and moved through a few different jobs. I came across this job in Government logistics that looked interesting and put in for it. I loved it and was allowed to work all the overtime I wanted. I could take my overtime as time off if I wanted and some years took three or four months off and traveled all over the place. If I worked 10 hours overtime on a Saturday and 10 hours overtime on a Sunday, both at double time that was a week off. I would always do a 24 hour shift on Christmas day so the married guys could be home. That was triple time, so for working one 24 hour shift, I got nine days off. I would go for weeks without a day off sometimes and I often had days that were more than 24 hours long. Both the guys I mentioned above got into their jobs because I was the first one to get a job with the Feds and told them who was hiring and we all have had very comfortable lives.
I really enjoy the music video's that get posted here. It introduces you to lots of things you haven't heard before as well as blast from the past. Crooner Steve, I could not view yours, did your forget to pay the bill?
Had doggie friends over last night and they brought this huge spread of Vietnamese food over and we went through a few bottles of wine. They brought kids who did the driving home, so all was good. I often wonder who is weirder, dog people of train people. I play with trains and the rest of the family runs around in circles with a dog in tow hoping to get a blue ribbon.
Well, I think I will go airbrush all my light hats for the roundhouse. I have lots of green paint and every light that Canadian Pacific ever owned I think was green, so it should be easy. Looking at those tiny LEDs I need to solder and not lose, I feel like I did when I did my first solo in an airplane or going off the high diving board for the first time. I like getting out of my comfort zone though, it gets easier each time. But then there was the time I was scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the small sharks that were inhabiting the area were larger than I had expected. By my third dive, I was comfortable again. Sort of.
Daughter has finished lost themes so, time to go turn on the compressor.
I bought my daughter the music for Lost a few years ago and left it on the piano as a hint. She cranks the stereo now and plays along with these guys.
hey all. today was definitely a let down. The second job I had looked for....not hiring any longer. That was a crushing moment for me. Guess it's back to looking for any options again, since 7.45 is not able to live off of. plus want out of retail so bad, as I am sure plenty here can sympathize with.
gmpullman hon30critter Go ahead Brent, rub it in! I'm just south of Barrie, Ontario and Barrie is expecting 40 cm of snow between now and Sunday. Wow, Dave! 40 cm ! Glad I don't live on your side of the lake! Over here in N. E. Ohio we're only expecting about sixteen inches!
