If you repair a old junker locomotive and make it new again. Then you're a model railroader.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
If you build a structure or bridge half way though and clapping during each phase until completion and totally excited. Then you're a model railroader.
I did this back in September when contacting my first kit.

If you have ever uttered the words " at least I am not spending the money on drugs or strip bars" You might be a model railroader.
If hearing the song "Locomotion" makes you want to head for the train room, you might be a model railroader.
If the song "Night Train" inspires you to run an operating session in the dark with full-volume DCC sound, you might be a model railroader.

I did one better.
I DESIGNED the house with train room requirements in mind.

If you pay an extra $35 fee to get a personalized licence plate for your car that reads 4884 (or something similar) . . .
then you might be a model railroader.

No, that's a railfan thing.
If you have a vanity plate that reads LIONEL or DCC4ME or MTH4884 or P48 ROX, then you might be distinguishable as a model railroader...

Yeah, maybe. But my non-railroad buddies don't distinguish between modelers and ordinary foamers.
If you go to Starbucks and come away with one cup of coffee and 50 stirrers, or you leave McDonalds with one small order of fries and a dozen empty ketchup cups, you may be a Model Railroader.

I know a guy who does exactly that. And living in one of those big square states out west where ranching is a very common activity, some guys attach all kinds of stuff to their hitches.

I know a guy who does exactly that.
The question then becomes if it's a model coupler ... and if so, how small.
Hey, if I put this on a Panamera, can I put a sticker on the Suburban that says 'don't laugh, my other locomotive is a Porsche'?

It's in about the right proportion to his Chevy Suburban that we could call is rig an EMD 2-tonner.
EDIT: He also has an actual 1:1 coupler, but that sucker must weigh several hundred pounds.
If you have a bumper sticker on the rear of your car that says, "My other vehicle is a ALCO", you might be a Model Railroader (or at least a member of the local Railroad Museum....). My Chevy Volt has one now that says, "My other vehicle is an EMD with a picture of an EMD GP9."
You might be a Model Railroader if you love to wear a t-shirt that says, "Your truck is 500HP? Then has a picture of a GP9 and underneath that says: "That's cute!"
Oh, and great to see you back Mouse!
